Chess is 99% tactics. This celebrated observation is not only true for beginners, but also for club players (Elo 1500 – 2000). If you want to win more games, nothing works better than training your combination skills. There are two types of books on tactics: those that introduce the concepts followed by some examples, and workbooks that contain lots of exercises. FIDE Master Frank Erwich has done both: he explains all key tactical ideas AND provides an enormous amount of exercises for each different theme. Erwich has created a complete tactics book for ambitious club and tournament players. He teaches you how to reach the next level of identifying weak spots in the position of your opponent, recognizing patterns of combinations, visualizing tricks and calculating effectively. Erwich has also included a new and important element: tests that will improve your defensive skills. 1001 Chess Exercises for Club Players is not a collection of freewheeling puzzles. It serves as a course text book, because only the most didactically productive exercises are featured. Every chapter starts with easy examples, but no worries: the level of difficulty will steadily increase. Review: For people serious about learning chess tactics - Another excellent chess tactics workbook for amateurs/club level players, also, understanding the key concepts, I highly recommend this workbook. Review: great - I'm almost done w this book. Took a very long time but I learned a lot. Favorite chapter is Pawn Promotion, the exercises helped me win many games. The draw puzzles are also very helpful but I found them insanely difficult. If you read this book, don't spend more than 5-10 minutes on a puzzle, as some of the solutions were missed by the grandmasters whose games they're from.

Good Contents
This book arrived 3 days ago and I have looked through the content and tried some of the examples and puzzles. They are well organized and include new topics such as stalemate and other. This book is vey updated, examples and explanations are clear and efficient. This is a good addition to my 2 older tactic books I.e.: raymond edwards “chess tactics and attacking techniques” and Chernev & Reinfeld “winning chess”. I am sure this book can help improve me in my future chess games. 1 month after starting with the exercises, I have covered about half of exercises in most chapters, and I cannot help but write additional review that this book is so fantastic and fresh. So much higher and interesting than I originally expected. Many thanks to the great writer.

Kindle Verison, Diagrams too Small and Solutions Not on Next Page
This would have been a 5/5 star review if it wasn’t for the fact that the diagrams are tiny and hard to see on the kindle version. Moreover, clicking the link to take you to the solution for your problem is clunky, and would be better to just have the solution on the next page of the question. Would be great if there was also a board on the solution page. Overall, good content but seriously held back buy the terrible kindle version. Should format this book just like the kindle versions of “Tatics Time”

CHECK SAMPLE FIRST - BOOK SIZE SMALL WITH TOO MANY SMALL EXERCISES ON SAME PAGE
You got it, needed a magnifying glass to make out pieces at my age. Seniors will not be able to use and younger will surely need glasses. Two good teaching examples of a good buy with exercises is Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess by the master, and Everyone’s First Chess Workbook by Peter Giannatos. If you are intermediate and more advanced player look for books with no more than two exercise boards per page. More does not mean better, quality pays off. This review is not intended to criticize positive reviews, but instead feedback for others to consider before buying as well as what future authors should consider for producing a best seller. I would prefer less exercises in a book in larger print than one with more smaller print exercises.

hält, was es verspricht!
