Great low glycemic sweetener with unique flavor
Great alternative to coffee sweeteners. It has a Glycemic index of 1 so great for health / anyone watching their sugar intake. It has a maple caramel combo flavor and darker (closer to molasses than honey). This packages is great for pricing.

Rich Brown Syrup with Notes of Maple-Caramel Flavor...Helpful in Weight Loss
LOVED this brand of yacon syrup, Peruvian Naturals, at first taste! The BEST I've tried of 4 different organic brands. The syrup is thick and a deep brown color with a rich molasses-maple-caramel like flavor. Yacon is a tuberous root plant found in the Andes Mountains of South America, high in a beneficial fiber known as FOS or fructooligosaccarides, which is a "prebiotic" fiber that helps nourish healthy gut bacteria which helps the body absorb more nutrients and maintain better health. Although it is sweet, the syrup is at a lower glycemic index of around 30 - 50% of the sweetness of regular white table sugar and not the same as the average high sugar-high glycemic index maple syrups you'd typically put on your waffles and pancakes. I love that this product is organic and helps nourish a healthy microbiome that's actually good for the intestinal tract and immune system. I like adding this to my shakes to give them a nice sweetness and depth of flavor. Low on the glycemic index especially for sweetener, this form of sugar does not get metabolized like common simple sugars do so it won't spike your blood sugar and drive up your insulin levels as it doesn't get metabolized but instead passes through the body virtually undigested. Allow your body to get used to it by not using too much initially or you may experience gastric upset, (gas, bloating, loose stools) if you take too much when you first start using it.

Not sweet
It’s expensive for what you get so I’m hesitant to repurchase. I bought it to replace honey in my morning tea and reduce my carb intake. But yacon isn’t a good substitute for honey in my opinion. Yacon has a unique fruity flavor but not much sweetness. It changes the flavor of my tea but doesn’t sweeten it. But I bought it as a sweetener so it doesn’t work for that purpose. HOWEVER yacon *does* have other positive effects. It helps your digestive system. This helps me “go” in the morning, usually within a few hours. It also has a noticeable appetite suppressing effect, which would be very helpful while I’m intermittent fasting. I unfortunately ran out of the syrup before starting I.F. A small jar lasted me almost a month, using 1 teaspoon a day. I’m still on the hunt for a sugar/honey substitute that doesn’t taste like chemical blech (Splenda and stevia, I’m looking at you). I’m disappointed that yacon just isn’t it.

My favorite yacon so far
I've tried a few brands of yacon and so far I like this one the best. It seems to be "less processed" to me, in the sense that it is less sweet and has fuller flavor. Some people may want sweeter and less flavorful to come closer to being just a pure sugar, but to me the highly concentrated sweetness makes me question the health benefits. To me this is more of a "food" that has some sweetness rather than a pure sweetener like most of us are used to. Many of the popular brands I've tried were thinner and sweeter. My best guess would be that this brand is closer to how it was processed and consumed prior to it becoming popular, whereas those other companies are processing it differently (refining it longer?) to make it appeal to a wider audience. Note that in general yacon is not a true sugar substitute since it has a slight molasses-like flavor (though to me it is much less bitter and burnt-flavored than molasses, and I have strong bitter receptors so I cannot tolerate a lot of bitterness, e.g. I can't really eat/drink stevia unless it is very dilute). Although I would think that yacon might work well in certain flavors of baked goods (I don't bake with it), it is generally not a sugar substitute. I think some people who don't like yacon are expecting a flavorless sweetener (that is also miraculously healthy for them). Also be careful when reading the nutritional info on the various brands because many use significantly different serving sizes so you have to do the math, you cannot just directly compare the quantities of nutrients.
F**!
The Least Sweet and quite high in calories comparitively speaking and an earthy-lemony flavor.
Update 8/5/19: I HAVE NOW LOST 15LBS IN 6 WEEKS FROM CUTTING OUT SUGAR AND USING YACON SYRUP INSTEAD! Honestly, that is the only dietary change I made! I wasn’t eating much sugar anyway - just agave syrup (terrible for blood sugar) in my one coffee a day and a couple pieces chocolate each evening. Cut it out used Yacon instead and the weight just fell off. It certainly wasn’t from calorie reduction! I put it down to the Yacon! To read my research on the benefits of Yacon Syrup on weight loss and blood sugar levels etc, please see my review on the Blue Lily Organic Yacon Syrup that I posted before doing the comparison taste tests. For the taste test results please read this review, and check out my other Yacon reviews for a rundown on the pros and cons of all of the Organic Yacon Syrups available on Amazon to date. Taste Test Results I have done a side by side comparison of six organic Yacon Syrups and am rating them in order of my own personal preference with a detailed run down on the pros and cons for each. I have not compared price as this is subject to change. Peruvian Naturals This one came in at 3/6 for thickness out of the six Yacon syrups I compared. It has some unusual but not totally unpleasant tasting notes. It is the most lemony of all of the syrups that I tested. Still very sweet but the molasses-lemon flavor is combined with a hint of that iron type flavor that one can detect in molasses that gives it almost a savory note despite all that sweetness. Hard to describe but think the earthiness of molasses mixed with a touch of lemon zest. This one is quite complex. If you are looking for a Yacon to use in savory recipes in place of molasses, this might be it. Naturally this is sweet, but it is probably the least sweet of all of the Yacon Syrups in my review line-up when comparing them side by side. It has 3x the calories (15 per tsp) of the lowest calorie Yacon (Swanson at 5 calories a tsp) which brings it to the second highest in calories. This wouldn’t be relevant at low amounts, but it all comes down to how much you are consuming as an extra 10 calories per tsp would add up if having many cups of coffee with Yacon a day, for instance. If you just want a Yacon Syrup as a sweetener, then Peruvian Naturals being the least sweet and one of the highest in calories might not be for you, considering that you would need to use more of it to get the sweetness that are inherent in some of the other brands. Peruvian Naturals Yacon loses a star for the lack of sweetness and also loses one for the lemony/iron rich flavor, it loses a star for being so much higher in calories than most of the others, but it gains a star for being in a glass jar. 3 Stars. Background I first tried Yacon syrup in 2015 but was disappointed in the quality of the brands available at that time. In 2018 I decided to give it another try and ordered Blue Lily and Alovitox Yacon to compare and decided at that time, the Blue Lily Yacon was the winner. Fast forward to 2019, the number of other organic brands of Yacon has increased and curious to see how they stacked up against my favorite, I purchased them all. Review line-up I have compared the following brands in no particular order. I prefer using organic ingredients where possible, so I am only reviewing the organic brands available on Amazon currently. - Swanson Organic Yacon Syrup - Alovitox Organic Premium Yacon Syrup - Blue Lily Organics Pure Yacon Syrup - Naturevibe Botanicals Organic Yacon Syrup - Peruvian Naturals Yacon Syrup - Zint Organic Yacon Syrup Please note, I previously reviewed the Organic Traditions Yacon Syrup (in 2015) You can read that review on the product page. Comparatively, that brand is very expensive and was very thin and watery. I do not consider it a viable option, and my comments on that syrup still stand, so I haven’t included that brand in the 2019 comparison testing with the other 6 syrups. To see my other Yacon reviews, click on my profile name to navigate to my page. There you can scroll through all of my reviews to find them. However, I have also put the Yacon Syrups I have reviewed into a list. That list is published on my profile. There, you can click on the photo of each product to be taken to the product page to read my review of that brand. I have been very particular in my tasting notes as I am comparing one to the other and tasting them repeatedly as I take notes on the differences. Once you compare them back and forth a few times the more subtle difference become apparent. Comparison of Nutritional Values It is very confusing as to why there should be such huge differences between brands. All values are for 1 tsp although how many mls or grams there are in a tsp varies by brand. I have rated them from lowest in calories to highest. 1. Swanson – 1tsp/7grams. Calories:5, Carbs 1.5g, Sugar <1 Refrigerate after opening 2. Alovitox – 1 tsp/5ml. Calories 7, Carbs 4g, Sugar 2g Refrigerate after opening 3. Blue Lily – 1 tsp/4.9ml. Calories 13, Carbs <4g, Sugar <3g Store in a cool dark place 4. Peruvian Naturals – 1tsp/5grams. Calories 14, Carbs 4g, Sugar 3g Refrigerate after opening 5. Naturevibe – 1 tsp/5ml. Calories 15, Carbs 4g, Sugar3g Store in a cool dry place 6. Zint – 1 tsp/4.9ml. Calories 20, Carbs 4g, Sugar 2g, Fiber 2g (Fiber 10% daily Value) Store in a cool dry area, No refrigeration required Storage Some trustworthy brands state that refrigeration is required after opening. None of the syrups have preservatives, so personally, I prefer to refrigerate. It can’t hurt, and I don’t understand why some say to do it and some not. So better to err on the side of caution in my opinion. Comparison of Thickness From thickest to thinnest in the following order. There are huge difference between the #1 and #6 1. Swanson (Thickest) 2. Alovitox 3. Peruvian Naturals 4. Blue Lily 5. Naturevibe 6. Zint (Thinnest) As you can tell, I might be a little bit nuts about ingredients! In some of my other reviews I test salts and have been known to taste 10 different soy sauces in one sitting! I recently purchased 9 different lemon zesters just to work out which one was best. Thin consistency, bitter, not sweet.
I have purchased several different brands of Yacon syrup. All have been thick and they congealed at the bottom so you had to stir it frequently. The flavor of those other brands that are thick, was a wonderful molasses/caramel flavor that is just PERFECT in my coffee! I purchased this brand because I though it would be helpful to have a jar instead of a bottle for stirring the thick part at the bottom of the bottle. When this arrived, it was quite thin and nothing congealed at the bottom AT ALL (which was my first clue that something was very wrong). I opened one to try it and it had quite a bitter flavor with almost no sweetness at all. It may have been rancid or it may be another form of processing or have added ingredients...I do not know. Honestly, it tasted so different (gross) from the other's I've purchased that it seemed like an altogether different product (not Yacon Syrup). All I know is it was HORRIBLE and I returned it right away. If you are looking for the Yacon syrup that tastes sweet and is thick...this is NOT the one!

Excellent product but it is pricey.
Very nice quality product, we are trying to eat low glycemic to bring down our bloodsugar and to also get healthier. This reminds me very much of molasses, I like bold flavors and I feel it has a very bold but pleasant flavor. I can not deal with off putting taste, after taste, or anything similar. I can’t stand agave I think it is incredibly nasty, this is great in coffee or tea. The price is very high, I wish it were more affordable as the tiny jar is not going to last for very long. Unfortunately it’s expensive to eat healthy
