Stylish and durable! I'm in love with a spoon.
I literally can't say enough good things about this set. We purchased two sets of this silverware along with the spoons and steak knives. I purchased a high quality set about 10 years ago and had decided I was done with them. I looked around a lot and this was just what I was looking for. The are nice and heavy and smooth to the touch. The spoons are large but because of the shape of them, easy to get into your mouth. I love them! (It's that weird to say about silverware?) I highly recommend the soup spoons as an add on because the larger spoon is too shallow for soup and the smaller is too small. The teaspoons are smaller than you'd expect but I think perfect. Great for my three yr olds and I love them for ice creams and desserts. The salad forks are the size of dinner forks and the dinner forks (and spoons) are sized for giants. It makes it kind of fun to eat out of and I love my guest's reactions. We were eating at a restaurant a few days ago and my husband remarked how he felt like we were eating off of children's silverware because he was used to ours. The knives can be set on end or placed on their side. They are actually rather sharp and do just fine for softer meats. We've actually only used our steak knives for steaks or chops. These are holding up like a dream. I cook dinner almost every night and run then m through the dishwasher almost everyday. I've noted very little wear if any on them and I'm not gentle. These are everyday working silverware. They were just what I was looking for and I don't think I could be more happy!

Great look, great weight, comfortable to hold, durable!
After using these for some time, I absolutely love them. I'm not a handwashing fan, so they get put through the dishwasher....one thing I discovered the hard way is that, as I typically put silverware in the basket dirty end up, I cannot do this with these because the handle is too thin. It falls right through the basket past the jet spinner. So they do need to be put in dirty side down (which just means you can't pack them in). I haven't noticed that they get water marks, but I'm sure if you used a dish scrubby on them, they'd probably get marked easily as they are high polish. I like the weight distribution through the handle. They are good solid pieces that have some weight to them. They aren't top heavy, so they wont fall off your plate. I particularly like (something I'm picky about) that the handle doesn't have any sharp edges. So you can use your fork to cut through foods without killing your hand. The small spoons/forks are REALLY small. They are smaller than your average small set. I personally, am not bothered by this, but I know it will make some people unhappy. They are longer than average silverware. I had to buy a new drawer insert. Again, something that doesn't bother me, but be prepared for that. The butter knife is actually fairly sharp. The shape is wonderful to all pieces and they are very very sturdy. No more bent fork tines. I will be buying a second set sometime after Christmas.

Conversation pieces!
I bought 2 sets (service for 12). As mentioned in other reviews, this flatware is long. The picture I've posted demonstrates the differences between a "normal-sized" dinner fork and one from this set. I was pretty surprised when I first opened the box. But I love it! This flatware truly makes a statement and I find it to be really attractive. The knife looks super-short in the photo - it's not, and it is sharp although the fine serration isn't readily visible. Others described the teaspoons as small, but I think they are normal-sized; they just seem tiny in comparison to the bigger spoons which ARE big, but I like them, and they could easily be used to serve. All of the pieces feel really comfortable in the hand...they have the perfect weight and balance, simply elegant. The set is super-shiny. Overall, very special flatware that I look forward to using for years.

Beautiful, Elegant, Weighted, & Polished - See Photos
The WMF Signum Flatware set is beautiful, simple, and elegant all at the same time. The set is comfortable in the hand and has a solid feel and weight to it. The knife handle is solid, not hollow. This set is well polished and highly reflective throughout each piece and not the slightest dark appearing compared to other flatware. Except for the butter knife which has a totally straight handle, there is a very slight flip upward at the very end of the handles (see photos taken on a normal sized piece of copy paper). From that little flip at the end forward though, the curvature is exactly like you will find on a flat handled set. (It is unfortunate that Flatware photos are also not taken from the side for online sales so you know exactly what you get). The similar appearing alternate WMF Carlton flatware set handles differ from the Signum set in that their handle ends are straight. However, the butter knife of the Carlton has a slightly chubby handle and narrower butter blade and less curved handle than the Signum and the Carlton soup spoon is a little larger than the Signum. The edges to the butter knives are not serrated. However, there is a almost, but not quit, knife sharp edge to them which should work well at cutting most food except tough steak. A reasonably priced matching set of six Signum serrated Steak knives is available on sale for around $40 currently. The Signum steak knives also come close to matching the appearance of the Carlton set if you prefer the straight ended handles that the Carlton offers. By the Way, the Oneida Icarus is noticeably even heavier and has similar styling, except the the ends and significatnly wider. If you do not find that large wide handle end unattractive, the Oneida Icarus is a very worthy and heavier yet atlernative and feels even more comfortable in the hand. The proportion between the width of the handles and length is very natural and attractive with this Signum flatware set. They are not overly long (or short) and the soup spoon is just right, not overly large or small. I like the slightly smaller salad fork so as not to spear my tonsils getting the salad off the far end of the fork. The WMF Signum and Carlton Flatware sets are more attractive to me for my taste in flatware than anything I could find at Macy's or Crate and Barrel except arguably the Oneida Icarus and are a lifetime investment - and to me, well worth the extra money over more budget oriented sets.

Best silverware ever.
Okay, first and foremost I want to say this: Every reviewer that complains about the size needs to understand that Nordic people are usually pretty tall and have big hands. It straight up says "Nordic" as the name of the collection, so expecting it to be anything other than huge is preposterous. That being said, I am 6'3" and weight 300lbs. I wear a size 16 ring on my ring finger. I have huge hands. This is the only set of silverware I have ever found that fits my hands properly. On top of that, the design is beautiful and the forks are not too wide for my wife to dislike. Everything about this set, from the glimmer to the size to the design, is everything I wanted it to be. Definitely a good buy if you want a sturdy, stout set of silverware that will catch the eyes of your guests. Also, the knives being able to sit on the blade is a really cool design touch.

Great quality
Bought these, the Nordic, to replace the only flatware set I've ever purchased and I'm 34 years old lol I don't know much about flatware and I won't pretend to. I was able to determine that I wanted an 18/10 stainless steel grade to have a nice looking set that won't rust. This set is really gorgeous. We like the contemporary look since our kitchen is contemporary, yet they still feel comfortable while eating. I marked the light weight as 3 stars for features because I wanted a set that had some kind of weight to it (my old set didn't) so that it feels like I'm getting a quality set. It completely met my expectations. To anyone who doesn't know much about flatware either, what do you have to lose? You can always return them if you don't love them. That's what I told myself, but I love them so we won't be returning them.

Okay.
I must say these are beautiful. But in use they are awkward. The knife twists in your hand, as the grip is too narrow, and overall too long. The forks aren't wide enough to pick up a proper amount of food, and again, handle is too long. And there's just not enough difference between dinner fork and salad fork. They're almost the same size. The large spoons have handles that are way too long . The teaspoons have handles that are too short.

I Love This Set!
I've never had a flatware set that was just my own. I had a bunch of hand-me-downs, Target cheapies, and mismatched pieces that were more a necessity than something I really wanted, so when I finally found myself in a position to buy something that I really wanted, the Nordic set was the hands-down favorite. It's sleek and smooth, weighted perfectly. It might take a little bit to get used to, because the handles are slim and longer than normal flatware, but the set is gorgeous: simple, minimal, elegant lines, nothing frilly. I will note the set is longer than most flatware sets, so you might do better to purchase a counter-top holder like I did, rather than trying to find a drawer-caddy that will hold them. Plus, they're so lovely that you'll want to show them off, even to yourself when you're doing nothing more than eating cereal. Just sayin'...
