Great wall safe for the price. Fit perfectly, easy install & setup.
This is a great wall safe. I bought it to store some of my handguns, and they both fit nicely. I receive the exact model pictured here, not sure how one review received the wrong one. Installation: When you open the box you will need to rip the plastic bag containing the manual key and instructions so you can use this key to open the door. There is a small Philips screw holding the cover on, you will need to remove this screw and cover to access the key hole (warning: when you remove the cover it also holds the number pad in place so it can fall off). Once the safe is opened you can put the batteries in and use the red button to program your code. I then measured dimensions of the protruding back end of the safe, and found the location of one stud where I wanted to mount it; I then cut the opening to match the dimensions from the backing of the safe. It fit in perfectly, and I was able to secure it to studs on both sides of the safe, I made my cut so that one side of the safe was flush against the stud, and I would estimate I had about a 1"-1.5" gap on the other side. The lag bolts that came with it are a bit small for the application, but with 3 on each side I felt it was secure enough. Uses: The unit stores both of my handguns easily a .40 and a .38, I have them standing up on the bottom shelf, as well as multiple spare magazines and boxes of bullets. The middle shelf can only be utilized to about ½ the depth since the battery and tumbler mechanism protrude out into that area. Conclusion: It is a great wall safe for security of smaller items, with a programmable coded entry. I am not sure if this is the best "Hidden" safe since the key pad and turn knob protrude out the front almost an inch, so if your picture has a flat back it will not sit flush against the wall, and be pushed out by the safe. We have ours mounted in a walk-in closet behind the hanging clothes so I am not concerned about that issue. Even with that minor issue for the price, and easy installation it is definitely worth it, and still a 5-star item.

Inexpensive, solid, great features, easy install
First of all, everything you need to know was in the description and in the pictures. I installed this in less than 30 minutes and that was including vacuuming up the sheet rock dust. Before you try to install it, read through the instructions and get down the process of locking and unlocking. It tells you not to lock the keys in the safe, so don’t. Test out your codes and make sure both work. Once you get that down, you will be fine. Yes, you have to remove the little screw to open up the panel to access it with the key. You may want to find a small pocket screwdriver to keep around the safe should you need it. I would use a stud finder, available for less than $10 everywhere, to mark the edges of your studs. Once you do that, quickly measure to see if they are close to 16 inches. 2) next I used a level and marked a line straight down on the edge of one of the studs. I then cut that line out what the sheet rock saw available for less than $10 and any tool store. 3) next I cut both the top and bottom horizontal lines after I measured them. Then finally I cut out the other side vertical line. 4) I remove the piece of sheet rock and said that on the side. Then I placed the safe and to the opening. Once I’ve verified I had enough clearance, I did the code and open the door. 5) i’ve then, using a pencil, marked the three holes on each side of the safe where the screws will go. 6) next i used a drill bit, smaller than the diameter of the screws, and drilled my six holes. 7) I then installed all six screws. Super simple. My only complaint is that I would like the beeping sound to be turned off so that I could access in secret. Another person stated he removed the beeping mechanism from the circuit board. I may try that.

Good Safe for the Money
I bought this safe because it was the best one for the money I found at the time. Heavy steel construction, took 1 hr and lots of drywall dust to put up. Per recommendations of other people, I bought 6 hex head screws and used drill and a socket wrench to install safe to studs. Overall, I am very happy with the quality and free shipping from Amazon. I put some electrical tape along the inside closing edge of the door. This was enough to dampen the metal on metal sound when closing. Also, as I did not want any noise when entering my code, I removed the little beeper from the circuit board. Lights still work. I was able to enter two different codes without problem. Instructions are vague how to enter codes, disregard reference to master code and user code. You have two codes, both have same functionality. One code requires xxxxA, the other is xxxxB. Hence the reason you have A and B on the keypad. Test out functionality of your codes and key operation of safe PRIOR to installing. As others have said, remove door to ease installation. if you do remove door, be careful not to lose the 2 ball bearings, which fall out when you remove the hinge pins. Ball bearings go at top/bottom of hinges, with hinge pins installed next. I noticed when the safe was locked, there was some play in the unlock handle which allowed slight movement/opening of the locking rods. I opened up the inside cover by removing the 4 screws. Yup, it was misadjusted and some of the screws were loose. Simple mechanism to adjust. Tightened up all the screws, checked for correct operation. This lock mechanism and electronic circuit is used in a number of safes, all from China. In fact, Amazon has a number of vendors who sell this exact same wall safe under different names. Want to save $30? see Harbor Freight Tools and their Bunker Hill wall safe. Look familiar? Only the names have been changed to confuse the naive.

Great safe so far, easy install. Heavy duty
PARAGON SAFES Electronic Flat Wall Safe Box with Digital Keypad and 2 Manual Override Keys This safe I put in quickly and easily. Heavy in materials, seems durable. Once I had all my tools in place and had read the instructions thoroughly it only took me about 10 minutes to actually install. I had already spent time programming the codes and figuring out how the lock works etc. so with all that in mind it probably took about an hour for everything. The front of the safe seems to be a pretty thick heavy metal. comes with two shelves set to certain heights. They don’t seem to be adjustable. they are removable. looks like I can program two codes into the safe. Six Lag bolts are included and attach it to the two side studs. The keypad has rubber numbers which feel comfortable to press. It will make a brief beeping sound if you put in the wrong code, if you put in the wrong code 3 times it locks you out for 20 seconds. Directions not in front of me right now but I know it will give a longer sounding beeping alarm if you continue to try and get continuous wrong codes. My safe came with the four AA batteries needed to power it. It comes with two keys as well as a back up to get into the safe in case the batteries die or you forget your codes. My studs were built well and we’re 16 inches apart so cutting the drywall and putting this in place was pretty easy. I like it!

Better than expected
For the price, this has to be the best electric wall safe. <$90 for a heavy duty, unbreakable-without-tools safe that sits nearly flush with a wall makes it perfect for hiding things you don't want a child or amateur burglar to find. Can a burglar with tons of time to hunt for safes throughout your house, and with crowbars, drills and other equipment, get into this safe? Absolutely. But for my purposes, I'm very happy with it. I'm not sure if it was my neglect/loss, but one of the internal shelf screws was missing when I installed the unit. I just have to run to the hardware store with the nut and washer and get one for $.05. Oh well. Installation was incredibly simple, and I'm the type that's nervous about DIY install. I cut a starter hole in the wall and checked for any hidden wires I might have to worry about. Then I just used an electric saw and cut along the lines I drew on the wall beforehand. You certainly don't need the several inches on each side that the safe gives you as cover for a shoddy cut-job. As long as the studs in your wall were properly installed (18" on center), all you have to do is drill 6 holes in the pre-located positions, and ratchet the screws in place. Couldn't be simpler. I installed it by myself. As others have mentioned, the center shelf is practically useless since that's where the locking mechanism on the door sits. But you can still fit a few small things on the sides or something thin against the back. Setting the code was very easy. I like how the door swings open once it's unlocked, because it makes it impossible to leave it unlocked accidentally -- the weight of the door will keep it swung open.

Nice wall safe for a nice price.
Please be mindful that this safe is just that. It’s a safe. It’s not fire or flood proof. It's meant to guard valuables from someone stealing them. Nice things. You use the included lag bolts to secure the safe to the studs. So if a thief is going after this, he’ll want a saw-zaw to cut out the whole wall. Forget about a sledge hammer breaking into this safe. The locking mechanism is very sturdy. The safe has good room in it. Even in the center section of the safe, behind the thick part of the door you have enough room to stand up a full sized hand gun with a bit of room to spare. Its construction is good. All hardened steel. This thing is very heavy and hides behind a large picture or door nicely. The not so nice things. The key lock is located behind the keypad and requires a screwdriver to get to. For me, this is not a big deal. You’ll want to purchase some felt and line the bottoms of the shelves. They ship this with one piece of felt. That is enough to line the bottom of the safe. Again. No big deal for my needs. Overall. I purchased this safe for what it is. A durable, wall safe that works with standard residential walls.

WARNING: Knob breaks easily and you could lose ability to open
Immediately: If you already own this, verify your keys work and that they move the bars and don’t rely on the knob to open. Reconsider leaving it in the wall while you can still get into it or you may never get it open in the future. Do not rely on the combination and knob. I bought this safe to store some valuables and important papers. I thought it was a pretty good sturdy safe. Instructions were not great but setting a custom combination was easy enough. I’ve rarely opened this safe since I purchased it several years ago. Maybe 5-8 times total. Today I went to open the safe. Entered the combo, green light came on and I turned the knob. The knob just spun freely. Turns out It’s a cheaply made plastic knob that moves a metal tab that moves the large bolts. Once that breaks and it breaks easily, you must use the keys. Turns out the keys that came with it don’t turn. I was stuck. I searched for customer support but was unsuccessful. Also note, once the knob breaks, the unit that slides the knob back and forth drops so that the bars are resting on the steel so even if you have keys that work, it might be difficult to turn the key as the weight of the top is now on the lock bars. That being said, I don’t believe that turning the keys will actually move the bolts. See 2nd pic. It looks like the keys simply unlock the mechanism but you will still need to turn the knob to open it. If that’s the case, the keys would still be useless once the knob breaks. If it’s mounted in your wall, you’re not getting it open. I was afraid to use a cutting torch to cut it open as that would burn and destroy all paper inside and likely damage other items. Upon further inspection of the safe I noticed that the thick outside steel frame was just tack welded here and there all the way around so I started by hitting the outer rim with a small sledge hammer until I got a slight separation at a corner. I then took a pry bar and started hitting that with a hammer to expand the crack. I did this all the way around for a few minutes and was ultimately able to get the top plate (which is much thinner) to separate enough to peel it off. This was a physical process but I had it off and all my contents emptied in about 10 minutes. $100 down the drain due to a cheap plastic knob that broke and keys that didn’t work. The knob needs a serious upgrade from plastic to steel or some other heavy metal. Once I got it apart I was surprised and disgusted at how cheaply they made the most important part of this safe. In conclusion: 1. The plastic knob is cheaply made and breaks very easily 2. Check your keys. Mine did not work. I’ve read other reviewers state their keys did not work either. 3. If your keys work, verify the keys move the bars and don’t just unlock it or you’ll still be stuck. 4. I was unable to locate Paragon customer support for this unit. 5. This safe is relatively easy to break into if not bolted into the wall. However, it would be nearly impossible to open if it was mounted between studs without tearing out part of the wall…All because of a cheaply made plastic knob that could have easily been made of steel or metal.

Pretty good locking cabinet for a very low price
I consider this a very nice, inexpensive locking cabinet. Realize what you're buying for the price and you won't be disappointed. Installation was very straight forward for a handyman with basic tools and knowhow. The middle shelf won't hold much but maybe some passports and other documents if they will stand vertically against the back wall due to the locking mechanism from the door swinging into this space. Like other reviews, the craftsmanship and attention to detail in the manufacturing plant is pretty poor. Lots of sloppy welds and the paint job was chipped new out of the box. Box was undamaged and unit is encased in styrofoam...which tells me that right off the floor the quality isn't great. But it does what I want it to, the keypad is convenient and the ability to use a key is a nice bonus. I'd buy this again at the same price point. But if you own the crown jewels you want to safeguard you might want to pay a little more to get something more substantial.

well made and fits nicely in the wall
Great wall safe. it fit great. it is a little smaller then the wall studs so it will have to be shimmed to fit your walls inside. i am guessing they do this cause all walls a little different. but perfect flush fit on the face of the wall and hides the cut out. it even came with lag bolts for install. my wife loves it as it is easy to use.

Very nice safe, holds the important things and keeps the riff raff out.
Love this wall safe. I installed it inside a closet, would like to see one with the door that swings the other way. If I ever have a need to buy an other one, i would not hesitate. It's very easy to mount m, as long as you have some basic carpentry skills. You will need a few tools, and I recommend framing it in.
