why does the sandpaper come off after 30 second use

Your putting too much pressure. Let the sander do the work. If it's not going fast enough removing material, step down in grit gradually until you get it right on the sweet spot. Too much pressure causes excessive heat, melting the glue and making it more viscous. Hope this helps

What is the average surface area of the attachments? Where can you buy replacement sandpaper; link, please.

Not at the shop right now to measure.... but I'd say from 1/2" to 3/4" depending on shape. I would suggest NOT to purchase replacement paper as their sandpaper is pretty worthless. I simply cut out the shape on an adhesive backed sanding disc... like you would use on a disc sander.

Does it come with a US plug or does it need a separate transformer like the Proxxon model?

Would this work well for light sanding of plastic models for paint prep?

I am using it for wooden model ships and it works just fine so I would think it would be good for plastics as well. The aggressiveness all depends on the grade of sandpaper really.
