Can you take this one apart to clean it?

Yes, you can take the upper and lower shells apart to clean it. Also, you may reverse the two inner tracks to make the Spinner as good as new.

Do you have to use the string, or can you roll it on the desk to get it moving?

Experienced users may catch the momentum right away and speed it up while the rotor's RPM is slow. Some users make the rotor spin by finger flip or rolling it on their jeans. The string is not required. Just needs a lot of practice for the beginners.

I just got mine and it has no instructions, I have no idea how to make it spin!! Help pls!!

You quickly pull the red cord that is wrapped around the ball to start the spinning (like a top). It is up to you and your coordination to keep it spinning.

If the string is lost, can it be started manually?

You may be able to find a piece of string at your local craft store or in the knitting section of your local Walmart. Make sure the line or string that you use is small enough to fit the whole and thin enough to wrap around the ball inside of its casing with out it, the string, getting jammed.
