Payment systems are the indispensable infrastructure for financial markets and business activities. Every commercial trade and financial transaction is finalized only when the final settlement is made through a payment system. If operational failures would occur in a payment system, preventing smooth transfers of funds, national economies and financial markets would be thrown into extreme confusion and seriously damaged. Therefore, the safety and efficiency of payment systems is incredibly important for national economies and financial systems to function effectively. Payment System Technologies and Functions: Innovations and Developments is valuable tool for those interested in learning about payment systems, including academics and researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, relevant parties of authority and central banks, and professionals in payment business who need a complete understanding of payment systems. This reference promotes a better understanding of payment systems and encourages progress on enhancing the safety and efficiency of payment systems. Review: Five Stars - Great book,, great delivery and the price was very competitive. Review: Good introduction to the topic but light on the technology - Overall, this book provided a good overview regarding how the industry evolved and some of the complexities that need to be addressed from a business and operations perspective. However, if you are a technologist it provides little to no insight regarding the ways in which the industry is dealing with the challenges created by legacy infrastructures from a technical perspective. Regardless, this book is ideally suited for students and consultants who need to come up the curve quickly on terminology and the way in which payments flow between counter parties. It may seem a bit pricey for what you get but I have not found any other reference book on the topic as complete as this one.

Must Book for Payment Professionals
The main theme of this book is the evolution of payment systems during the past decade. From the simple DTNS(Designated-Time Net Settlement) System to the RTGS (Real-Time Gross Settlement) System. In addition, the highly sophisticated payment systems, like Hybrid System and the Integrated System is also explained. It also covers on how payment systems work which all the payment professionals should know. It was so interesting to know the dynamic development of payment systems in US, EU and also in Japan. This is a "must book" for all the payment professionals.
