U can use it for protection its a big weapon tho so as long as u have enough space to swing it u can protec yourself just fine. the saw blade on the back is pretty useless its more for looks but i can chop through one and a half inch branch so u could really hurt some one

Out of the box, it is extremely sharp, but it has a major issue. The blade that my son received has absolutely zero heat treatment. If you plan on actually using it in the field/woods your blade will be dull, dented, and bent in the blink of an eye.
