Kwikset Convert Smart Lock Conversion Kit (Amazon Key Edition – Amazon Cloud Cam required), Compatible with Alexa in Venetian Bronze

Ok, so I was worried that you were required to have the cloud cam in order to use this with the Amazon echo and it's not true, I have the Echo plus which has the built in hub and I was able to pair to with no issues. However if you don't have that you must have some kind of hub, I hear the samsung smart things hub works but I've not tried that. The lock works great and I use the alexa app to unlock and lock from the phone and it doesnt make me wait long. All in all I'm very happy with this purchase, I might purchase the cloud came later on, but its not required if you have a hub device already.

Setup with cloud cam went great. lock along with cam worked well for about 48 hours. Then when leaving one afternoon discovered the lock was no longer connected through the cloud. Called Amazon CS but the representative just read off the troubleshooting sheet I had already gone through, didn't have any ideas beyond that. Will be sending back to Amazon. BTW cloud cam is working well but is basically useless w/o connected lock.

This is the one to buy if you have a big echo (not a dot) since the Echo is a Zigbee hub, or you can use it if you have your own Zigbee hub. You don’t need Amazon Cloud, your echo will detect it.That is if the box says 99140-112The Kevo version will not work like this. You can also look for the Zigbee Kwikset Convert which is the same thing.

Well i just removed the setup for the 5th time. 3xs i attemped to set up the lock only to make it to about the 5th step. The adaptor mount was upside down... after reading reviews and reaching for days i finally called customer service. (If u face this problem simply put front cover back on turn lock on front plate it will click and rotate 180 degrees). Ok good customer service, i will give kwikset because when i called and got a person, who immediately helped me. Ok now im attempting to install (4-5th time) the kevo app and pair by touching phone to mechanism. Did not work! Call #2 i speak with kwikset customer service again... dispite following instructions (it should really indicate these tepublesbooting issues in instructions).. customer service informs me it will not connect without cloud cam pr hub. I assumed it would at least connect to my phone for lock/unlock since there are very conflicting reviews on this capability. Apparently it will not work without the cam/hub. Im over attempting to try to install this thing. Might give one more shot... but probably will end up returning unless someone tells me how to bypass the cam requirement or if i can buy secondary market cam (which at this point would b better to purchase more expensive kevo). If kwikset is the AMAZON key editon (theres another nonkey) it WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT CAM OR HUB. Check the product if it has AMZ in product lable youll have this problem too.

Lock was not compatible with my deadbolt, despite having indicated that it was compatible on the website. Installer came out, spent 2 hours trying to install, and confirmed it was not possible. Stated that Amazon does not accurately define which locks will be compatible or not with Amazon Key conversion kit. Then called to return the item and spent another 45 minutes for a customer service representative to assist me. Overall wasted 6 hours. Wrote Amazon to try to come to a mutual resolution, but they never responded.

Took some figuring how to pair the lock to our Alexa/Amazon account without the Amazon Cloud Cam (4 hours trying different things and scouring the internet... a few beers, a few tears and a million cuss words) because no, of course, like a lot of you I didn't read that part of the title/description (I bought it on Prime Days and I was at work, so I only half read the title)... and then I read the magic words on the Amazon description of the product... "Alexa, discover my devices" to my Echo Show and as if by magic, it paired the lock! NO AMAZON CLOUD CAM REQUIRED (but you may need a Echo Show or EchoPlus 2nd Gen)! We bought two, so I got cocky and thought, great, I'll try that again, nope... didn't work, because apparently once you pair a lock or security device to Alexa, you must pair additional locks through the app... but amazingly, I went through the app, and it did not take 4 hours to pair it (5 minutes). I swear, I did the same steps for the first lock and it just wouldn't pair initially. Both of my locks are now paired, we can lock our doors remotely with our phones, or by voice command in the house with any of our Alexa devices. The actual installation was easy and the instructions were adequate.A cool feature of it is in order to get Alexa to UN-lock the door by voice command you have to enable it (and I don't recommend it as someone shouting loud enough can unlock your door if your Alexa is in range, as mine is), but the default is you can't unlock the door by voice command. You must also enable it to be unlocked through the app (and this is a separate permission through the app) so if you enable your phone to unlock the lock, that does not mean you enabled the voice command to unlock it. This does NOT affect your ability to lock the door by voice command (which makes sense), or by the phone app.I have set a schedule so the lock locks itself at a certain time of night (because I have teenagers who forget), and you can also set the lock to lock after a certain amount of time after you unlock it (say 30 seconds). I'm rather pleased with it now that we have them set up.I will say this about the Amazon Cloud Cam requirement, it requires you to set up with Amazon Key app... which if that service is not available in your area (as it was not in ours) because it is still a VERY new service, then you're out of luck, you can't download and set up anything with the app, and I find that to be a HUGE flaw. Even if Amazon does not deliver, it should enable to app to set up devices and hook them up to your Alexa(s) without that part of the service... why do I care? I've got my locks working? Because I also bought a garage door opener, that also uses Amazon Key, and it is the ONLY way to connect the garage door to your Alexa (even though set up does NOT require an Amazon Cloud Cam... doesn't even mention it in the set up instructions)... and as of the time I'm writing the review I have NOT found a way to link THAT with my Alexa/Amazon account, so for now, it remains a separate app to run... which is fine, just a minor inconvenience to have to set up a separate schedule and parameters for it. How is that relevant to *this* review? If you're a sucker and bought the Amazon Cloud Cam to pair this lock to your Alexa/Amazon account using Amazon Key, it may not let you just because the service isn't available in your area... so buyer beware!All that said, I fully recommend this lock as a way to hook up your lock to your Alexa!

I installed this on a door that doesn't get used that often with fairly basic automation requirement. It is a bit loud when actuating and has as rather plasticy feel to the construction. If this were my main door I might look for something a bit higher quality, but for my needs it is perfect.It came with all the adapters I needed to bolt up to my Schlage lock without issue.

Extreme disappointment! This conversion kit doesn't work on many different levels. It was manufactured in 2017. Amazon sold me old discontinued stock! The smart home apps were discontinued. Even the batteries that came with it leaked onto the contents. So far, Amazon will not take a return as I was a few days past when I tried to install. According to Kwikset, you must have an Amazon Alexa Echo Hub fourth generation. And all the other apps that were initially associated with this so-called Smart Lock are discontinued.
