Review: Little book for Christmas - The little book arrived in a timely manner and was in very good condition. My grandson opened the little package as part of his Christmas gifts. He got a big smile and read the title. The goal of getting this book, which was on a list recommended by his second grade teacher was to improve his reading skills. Looks like it is going to work with something that will make him smile. Review: Great for learning to read - We purchased these books to help my 3 and 4 year old begin to read. They're great, have big bold words and the books came in new condition. Will purchase more.

Early readers that are fun and beautifully illustrated
I purchased these books for my 5-year-old daughter who is beginning to read on her own and these Step Into Reading books are excellent as they have a high-interest factor that motivates her to read. The stories are also wonderfully illustrated in full color. The story here is by Margaret Wise Brown and is all about bugs - "Black bugs. Green bugs. Bad bugs. Mean bugs. Any kind of bug." It's a fun reading experience for young children, and my daughter loved the illustrations. These Step 1 series are recommended for preschool-K - the stories are in large type and the vocabulary is easy. The stories are also in a rhyming format which makes them easy and fun to read. The full color pictures also provide contextual clues as to the word being used in the text. These early readers have raised my daughter's confidence level in reading, and she is doing so well that I'm purchasing the Step Two books (Preschool-Grade 1). I use these books in conjunction with sight words to reinforce her recognition of common vocabulary.

Great Early reader book!
Perfect little book for children learning to read. The words and sentences are short and charming pictures make it easy for child to get hints at longer words.

Buggy Bugs
I Like Bugs is a great book for a beginning reader. I Like Bugs is Step 1 in the Step Into Reading Series, Ready to Read Preschool-Kindergarten. The type is large, the sentences are short (two to five words) and there is only one sentence per page. I especially like that a serif font was used in this book. I've found that some younger readers, when faced with sans-serif fonts, face letter confusion between capital I (eye) and lower case l (ell). I've never had that issue with this book. There is repetition to help young readers learn to recognize words, picture clues help readers decode the words, and a few rhyming words as well. I Like Bugs has been a well-loved and often-read early reader in our house.

Good book for very beginning reader
Great book for emerging readers. My son is an almost seven year old emerging reader, and heโs finally able to read โrealโ books like this compared to very simple (and super boring) easier readers. This is a sweet and very simple book that he can read totally unassisted. (The hardest word is โsidewalkโ, but most words are simpler.) Weโve worked for about three years on reading daily, and other simple readers are so mindless and awful after a while! This book is ten times better! Other books are labeled level one but have all kinds of challenging and frustrating words. This is a good book for young ones and appropriately labeled.

Perfect for the beginner reader
These are soooooo much better than the "I Can Read" series. I got a couple of these and a couple of those and these are by far the best! It gives my beginning reader confidence and he doesn't get frustrated by these book like he does the other ones. super easy read and really cute for my bug lover.

Lovely early reader bug book.
Great early reader choice. I dislike generic early reader - same characters, bland boxes of 30 boring stories so was looking for something more creative. Followed Jessie Wise Bauer's recommendations and got a good selection. Plus I waited until my daughter was ready and she is loving to learn now ( age 5 & 10 months)

Its an ok book. Not engaging enough.
The book is ok but the content is not engaging enough for a kid. Kids dont seem to connect enough to it to demand a second read.
