Good-looking walking stick, lightweight and supportive.
Great hiking stick. It's very sturdy. The rubber tip at the bottom helps protect the wood and the stick never slips or slides. I like the carry loop, and the stick is very attractive overall. People compliment it almost every time I use it. It's surprisingly lightweight for as strong as it is! I have some nerve damage in my wrists and hands from carpal tunnel, and I have no problem holding on to this stick even if I walk for an hour or two. I've been hiking since childhood and I underestimated how helpful a stick can be, regardless of age or fitness. This stick is good for balance and protection, and it looks nice. I debated a while before buying, but I'm really glad I got it!

Are they "Expensive" or are they not?
Thank you for such a gorgeous item. I love it! As soon as it arrived, i gave it the old "try to break it across the knee" test. This walking stick is not only beautiful, but super strong. I am VERY happy with my purchase (and will be ordering another soon)! Normally, I would make my own, but I don't have access to this type of wood, near me. Let me say, for those of you that have never "made" an actual walking stick, it "might" seem relatively expensive for "just a stick". However, for those of us "in-the-know" we can tell you, "These are NOT expensive". If you want to buy a cheap wooden dowel, then cut, shape, stain, and coat it..... feel free. You will only end up with a pretty, albeit weak stick made from soft wood, and have wasted a fair amount of time and money for something that will probably break when you need it most. A true, solid, attractive, dependable walking stick takes about a year to make, if done correctly. First you must find the proper type of tree/wood to fit your needs (weight, strength, height, appearance, etc). Then you must find one the proper thickness, length, and straightness to cut. If done correctly, you only have a few months of the year to do this, when the sap is low (think winter months). To properly dry and straighten the stick will take about a year of hanging in a dry (and preferably warm) environment. After which, you can debark, cut, carve, whittle, sand, drill, stain, and varnish to your liking. So NOW does this walking stick still seem "expensive"? If you just want something to poke around in holes or get the spiderwebs out of the way, then just pick up a stick off the forrest floor. If you want a strong, attractive walking stick that will last a lifetime, buy one from Brazos.

Great walking stick
Really nice walking stick. Packaging was amazing, although it comes in a box 2x larger than needed.

Pretty good walking stick but takes a little getting used to
Overall, I like the walking stick. It feels good in my hand and I like that it's a natural branch and feels really sturdy. I weigh over 200 lbs and I have no concerns this will hold my weight if I really had to lean on it. The workmanship is pretty good relative to finishing the wood and sealing it. My only complaint is that it's not as straight as I would have expected. There's a pretty good kink about 8" from the bottom. Now that I'm used to it, I've figured out how to place it to get the support I want. At first, I found it a little destabilizing but have figured out how to work with it after a little practice. Now, it's second nature.

Very good staff
Very good made for the price. Sanded perfectly smooth, mines 2.2 lbs, good rubber walking tip, will last alot of years, i got ironwood. Edit: started to crack on the top end but thats what ironwood does as it dries wont hurt the staff...

I REALLY like my walking stick!
I am sneaking up on septegenarian status. Have been a runner and a walker all my life, but health problems have had me down for months. I inherited a cane - one of those cheap aluminum canes you can find in your local bargain store. It kinda worked, it actually helped a little. Tried another that was given to me, same thing. I mean, they keep you from falling down, but somehow, they aren't natural. So, I came looking for a walking stick. There's a whole world of difference between the cane and a stick. Instead of reaching down to a cane, my are is crooked forward at a natural angle, gripping the stick. All the motion of the stick comes from my wrist, my arm moves very little if at all. And, the stick just swings naturally in my left hand, matching the motion of my right leg. It is just so intuitive, and effortless. I was insistent that I wanted to spend fifty bucks or less, at least on my first stick, because I didn't want to waste money. I found this particular Brazos walking stick for little more than half my self imposed spending limit. Great buy, considering those cheap canes cost as much and more. The ironwood stick has already been commented on by several people. Everyone who sees it likes the appearance. People may not even comment, but the stick is an eyecatcher, and everyone around gives the stick an admiring look. My wife likes it so much, she asked me to get her one. We sat down and looked at Brazos' offerings, and decided on a 48" Hawthorne stick for her. It should arrive tomorrow, well ahead of Christmas and family get togethers. Five stars are not enough stars for my Brazos Ironwood walking stick. Incidentally, it's a comforting feeling to know that I'm not entirely defenseless if assaulted by some miscreant. Or, even an animal. I can push a dog away, or whack an assailant in the head. Maybe I'll watch some martial arts videos, and become an expert with pole arms? OK, I'm just kidding with that, but this stick is stout!

Stick tip sharply crooked, rubber ferrule missing, customer service email dysfunctional
Could have easily been a 5-star review, but three issues made this a less-than-stellar purchase. (Note: The black rubber ferrule you see in my review image is not the one that comes with the stick. I used an old tip I had lying around the house to illustrate the bent tip issue.) 1. The stick was cut to length without care. A "rustic" stick isn't expected to be perfectly straight, but the sharp bend at the end of this stick means that once a ferrule is attached, it will always be crooked, and never make predictable, even contact with the ground unless I cut more length off the stick. If I wanted a shorter stick, I would have ordered one. The maker should have known this particular stick was not good at its present length. 2. It was delivered without the rubber ferrule (the tip). Should have been no big deal, but... 3. Customer service's email is dysfunctional at best. I reached out to them and they were quick and helpful in their reply, asking me for the diameter of the stick so they could send a replacement. I replied back with the info (there's no other indication of how to respond -- no ticket, no web interface, so email seems to be the only way), and my email bounced back as undeliverable. I tried again, this time CCing some additional email addresses on the original email (presumably supervisors), and it bounced back undeliverable again. I eventually just sent an email back to the original address (rather than the return address on the email they replied with) and got through. Again, they were helpful and prompt, and gave me an order number and invoice for the missing ferrule replacement. That was on April 22nd. It's now May 11th, and I have not received my replacement. The invoice didn't have a tracking number. I tried using the "pretty nifty status tool" link in the customer service agent's signature, but it led to a "Page cannot be found" error on their website. I've replied back yet again, hoping my email doesn't bounce back again. Overall, it's been a lot of hoops to jump through, and I'm starting to wish I had just grabbed a stick somewhere and made it my own rather than trying to buy a "nice" stick that turned out to not be so nice. UPDATE: Reduced the review by another star due to Brazos' customer service. They replied back to me on 5/14 with a simple: "Hello, Please note that your order has been shipped" and a tracking number for the missing ferrule that indicated the order had in fact not been shipped, but that the label had only been created 5/14. So, they forgot to ship my order, scrambled to make a label, and told me they'd shipped it with no apology. The ferrule finally arrived today (5/20, nearly a month after my initial contact), with a slice of rubber peeling off of it. It's functional, at least. I'll still have to cut the crooked end of the stick in order for the tip to have even and safe contact with the ground.

Beautiful walking stick
Lovely, smooth wood. Quality product. The stick is the perfect height. Very happy with it. There was one minor problem which was quickly dealt with by the seller. Very easy to deal with.

Solid quality product
Fantastic product Solid well finished, no " splinters" no cracks or splits A unique touch, the last 3 inches on the foot of the stick I call it a " deer toe" cleaver use of the wood. We now have 3 Brazos walking sticks and they are all excellent Highly recommended My only qualm was that the bottom of the cardboard cylinder it was sent in was open, probably customs After inspection they did not bother to tape or close up the bottom end, the stick could have fallen out or be damaged. Lucky the carelessness did not lead to either consequence.
