Local Control Done Right: My Experience with the Yale Zigbee Smart Module
Honestly, I was pretty skeptical about switching from my old Matter and Wi-Fi locks, but this Yale Zigbee module has completely won me over. The best part is how seamlessly it works with Home Assistant. Pairing it up was super quick and easy, just like I expected with any standard Zigbee device. It doesn’t lag, it’s incredibly responsive, and the fact that it operates locally on my network gives me way more peace of mind. I don’t have to rely on the cloud to unlock my door, which makes the whole experience feel much faster and more reliable than my previous setup. Another huge win for me is the battery life. I’ve noticed that this module uses significantly less power than the Wi-Fi or Matter-based locks I was using before. If you’re tired of constantly swapping out batteries or worrying about your lock dying in the middle of the night, this is a no-brainer. It’s set it and forget it kind of efficiency, but with the added benefit of being able to automate my smart home routine without any delay. It just works in the background without drawing unnecessary power.

Up and running in minutes.
These work extremely well and were up and running within minutes. The process for putting each lock’s Zigbee module into pairing mode varies by lock model, but once you understand the required steps, the devices connect to the Home Assistant Zigbee coordinator immediately. After pairing, everything functioned as expected without any issues.

Works as expected.....
I'm not sure why people had issues with this. It works exactly as expected. I am using a zigbee gateway (z-bee duo) paired with homeassistant. I was able to pair it instantly and it showed up as a device with all necessary entities. Just as a test I set up an Ikea on/off button to lock/unlock and it works fine. It does report the "source" of unlock, but instantly blanks itself out. You can look at the homeassistant logs to see what I mean. I do wish it would report what code was used for keypad unlock, but that isn't a huge deal. Bottom line, I'm happy. It works great and I love having full control over my smart crap.

Didn’t work as advertised
I tried two different units neither one would work correctly. Still trying to get a refund on the second one.

Update: The second one I bought doesn’t works so great!
Update: The first one I bought worked fine, the second one I bought will lock when I ask Alexa, but she then tells me the lock is malfunctioning. Also the Alexa app tells me initially it’s waiting for Yale but then tells me there is a problem with the front door. I can’t seem to contact the seller about this. This worked great. It allowed me to make my Yale lock work seamlessly with my echo hub. I’m starting to transition away from Wink as they are failing in the customer service department. Thanks it great
