The unforgettable story of World War II is told through the words of those who lived it—America’s greatest generation—both on the battlefield and the home front. Personal writings create a dramatic tapestry of wartime experience, and recollections of Roosevelt, Hitler, and Patton, as well as letters composed by soldiers at battle and diaries of women serving in the military at home, present an absorbing narrative that tells the entire history of the war from several perspectives. Hundreds of images capture fateful moments of triumph and defeat that defined the era, including rare photographs and artifacts, many never-before-seen from private collections that are placed in context with more famous photographs from the period. More than 20 authoritative National Geographic maps detail military movements and decisive battles in the European and Pacific theaters of war. These incredible, first-person stories, amazing moments of heroism, compelling imagery, and illuminating maps bring the entire history of World War II to life in vivid detail. Review: Excellent Gift Idea - Nice high quality and just as advertised ! I would recommend for sure! Review: Should Be In Every Home - The photos are riveting- the stories unforgettable. Each page is better than the last. A nice progression of history with plenty of details that are not common knowledge. Rare photos. A gift for an elderly gentleman, but leafing through it before wrapping the gift, I could not put it down. So I am ordering another copy for my family. I thought I knew a lot about WWII but I learned so much from the photos and text. Personal letters were an especially poignant part of this book. Everyone should own a copy so we don't forget the past.

Thank you for your service!
Love this book, but I'm a bit biased because my Pop is on the cover:) 104th Infantry, Timberwolves and lived to tell the tale.

Beautiful pictures
This was a christmas gift for my dad who is a history buff. The pictures are amazing (as you would expect from National Geographic) and the dialogue. I took away one star because the inner page came folded and that detracted a bit from the quality of the book but all in all a great book for my dad's coffee table and a great read.

Fantastic Book
I gave this to my sister for Christmas as she is a big WWII enthusiast. We both expected to see some interesting and well done pictures in this book; however, what we did not expect was how compelling and interesting the writing was throughout. It was good enough that it could be considered a page turner. The book covers everything from the end of WWI through D-Day, VE-Day, and VJ-Day as well as touching on some lesser covered events. Another reviewer put it pretty perfectly when they described it as something to the effect "If you could make a WWII book a coffee table book, this would be it." Overall I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good book on WWII.

Excellent gift for anyone planning a military career
My grandnephew is an ROTC cadet and future Marine. He had expressed an interest in World War II history, perhaps because my father had served in the Navy during that turbulent era. I purchased for him this excellent combination of photography and detailed history of unsung heroes. What arrived wowed me. There are rare photographs, true, but the recap of military clashes tells far more than I learned in history classes during the 1960s. I strongly recommend this excellent pictorial history as a gift for anyone who plans a military career. It is a quality hardcover at a paperback price. Reviewed by L. Gorgeous Book
Our order came from a third party vendor, Ethan’s Book Barn, who is making money to put himself through college. That was a plus to our order. The book came quickly and was in excellent condition. It’s a beautiful book. My father was a government and history teacher. He has a special interest in WWII. In his retirement, he enjoys seeing new viewpoints to the material he taught. He was thrilled with this book. For those who love WWII history or just history in general, this was an excellent purchase.

Ótimo livro, porém....
Ótimo livro, mas não creio que era novo, ou então era daqueles livros novos que estão há muito tempo guardados. Capa estava muito ammasada nas bordas.
