The Belly Dance Handbook: A Companion For The Serious Dancer

As a beginner belly dance student who is interested in learning anything belly dance, this book is perfect. Very easy to read & understand, and very very thorough. I love the way all of the info is presented with detail. I have only just started reading it and I am not finished yet, but It starts out with tips on getting involved in belly dance, goes through its history, all of the countries of origin, different styles, costumes, and music. I feel it is an extremely well written book for anyone from beginner to professional. I've bought other belly dance books, but none were as comprehensive as this one, and were certainly not for beginners. I love the fact that this book is written for anyone interested in belly dance. Highly recommended. Wish I bought it sooner!!

This is the single most useful and informative belly dance book I own. It's chock-full of tips on everything from finding your first teacher to negotiating overseas teaching gigs. There's information on costuming, makeup, stage lighting, props, different styles of dance, and so much more. Although a lot of this information is taken from blog posts on the author's blog, it's definitely worth while to have it all collected in a physical book for ease of reference. This book is useful for dancers of all levels, but especially for those who are looking to go pro and may not have a mentor around to give them all the nitty-gritty.

THIS BOOK RAQS!!! If only it had existed 15 years ago. The Princess addresses, breaks down and explains so many important things that I think it is a MUST HAVE for any professional dancer, Belly dance instructor or aspiring performer. I recommend it to all of my students and have added it to my required reading for my teacher training! Princess Farhana shares all of the tidbits, tricks and behind the scenes info you need. She is an engaging and honest writer who keeps you interested while sharing valuable information. READ IT!!

I had given up searching for literature that Princess Farhana has writen and it's here it is finally! This book is fantastic and includes answers to all of my "Inquiring Minds Want to Know" questions I have in the name of my love for belly dance. Dancers beginning or professional, this is a "MUST HAVE" item. The author, professional, succinct, and a brilliant woman all together. This book will be right on the tip of my shelf for frequent access. In addition, there are soo many wonderful tips, I purchased a couple for girlfriends that are not belly dancers,but performers. They too found the tips and info very enlightening and industrious! Her other books and DVDs are awesome! Why stop with just this item alone!

I really enjoyed all of the history given in the first sections of this book. I had never heard of American Belly Dance prior to this year, Classical Egyptian, and Folkloric dances are all I have seen. I am very happy that Princess Farhana gives examples or popular artists for each style of dance she explains in the book. The advice is so valuable. She answered questions I have had for a long time. I appreciate that very much. All dancers would like the information shared in this book. It is full of grace, kindness, and it makes me happy that I get to jump into bed and read it every night.

Where was this book when I was a baby bellydancer!?!???? Seriously, order this book. You need this book. No matter your level of skill or whether you want to be a pro or not. I have read it cover to cover and give it two thumbs up. Very helpful tips on all kinds of important things like professionalism at gigs, makeup, choosing the right bellydance teacher, etc. You won't be sorry and it will save you from "finding out the hard way".

Very helpful book, filled with handy tips and insights into the world of belly dance. Princess Farhana gives advice on pretty much every aspect - performing, costume storage, zills, going professional, and so much more. Well-worth having this handbook in your arsenal.

Everything you could ever need to know about Middle Eastern dance. . . and then some ! This book is a must in the library of every one with any interest in belly dance.
