All the Power, None of the Gas‑Powered Drama
I bought the EGO POWER+ 18” cordless chainsaw as a homeowner who uses a chainsaw fairly regularly for property and yard maintenance, and it has been a great addition. It has plenty of power for cutting firewood, trimming trees, and handling storm cleanup—without the noise, fumes, or hassle of a gas saw. The battery performance is impressive, and the instant start is something I now refuse to live without. No pull cords, no fuel mixing, just grab it and get to work. For a battery-powered saw, the cutting speed and torque are more than adequate for typical homeowner tasks and light-to-moderate ongoing use. The saw feels well-balanced and easy to control, which makes longer cutting sessions much more comfortable and less intimidating than a traditional gas chainsaw. Maintenance is minimal, and overall it feels like a smart, well-designed tool geared toward homeowners who want reliability without overkill. If you’re a homeowner who uses a chainsaw more than once in a blue moon but doesn’t need a professional-grade gas saw, this EGO chainsaw hits a great balance of power, convenience, and ease of use. Highly recommended.

Probably the Best Battery-Powered Chain Saw Available
I bought this chain saw to replace a 16" WEN battery-powered model that was leaking oil like crazy. After reviewing every model available and viewing dozens of videos, I chose the EGO. After I had made my independent assessment, I checked Consumer Reports and was delighted to see that they rated this chain saw #1 on their list of battery-powered chain saws. It's also one of the only battery-operated models that comes with an 18" blade. Upon inserting the battery in the charger, I saw it was already half charged. The battery has a visible display that shows how much the battery is charged and changes throughout the charging process. The battery is quite heavy, which adds to the overall weight of the product. However, the chain saw is exceptionally well balanced so you don't really feel it. The quality appears top-notch. My only issue is that the blade brake seems a little flimsy, as if it could break after a lot of usage. I suspect it won't, but it just feels that way. It has an integrated LED light which has two settings, and it is incredibly bright. I don't know if I'll ever need this feature but it's nice to know it's there if you need it. As for cutting, I can only say it's INCREDIBLE. To test it out, I cut through a 12" log, and it literally cut like butter. I don't think it took 10 seconds for each cut. Admittedly, I'm using a brand new blade, but with occasional sharpening I suspect that all my future cuts will be easy. I also love that it has an automatic chain tensioning system. Turn the large wheel and it tightens to the correct tension. On my WEN and I believe most other brands, you need to turn a big knob to loosen the blade, then rotate a wheel until you get the tension YOU think is right. The EGO system is much better. I haven't used it enough yet to report on battery life, but every review I've read or video I've seen indicates that the battery will last. This is simply an incredible chain saw. And Amazon had the best price -- $30 less than Lowe's.

Electric is a game changer.
Don’t usually leave reviews but I was so impressed that I’m now writing this. I was unsure about ordering this at first. I’ve ran many gas powered chainsaws and wanted to try out this one. I was actually very impressed with the power and the run time of this saw. I was easily able to cut up a few trees on one battery no problem with quite a bit of power left over. The quick chain adjustment knob is actually a game changer. No tools needed to tighten chain or if the chain pops off. Kept me going without a worry. The oil port worked great and doesn’t seem to clog up like some other gas saws. No worry about mixing gas and it’s much cheaper to operate! Overall I would buy this saw again for sure.

surprised even this fan of battery-powered yard tools by how good it is
I've been among the first people I know to have trusted battery-powered yard tools to have enough runtime and power to be worth buying, against the skepticism of others. But I've also been let down over time by a hedge trimmer, and a few *indoor* tools, that used an earlier battery technology. Since lithium batteries became common I've built up a collection of yard tools including a new hedge trimmer, leaf blower, string trimmer, and chainsaw. I chose EGO for the first of them, based on several professional reviews. When I was in the market for the second I *wanted* an EGO so I could share the battery between them, since they can all use the same one. But I did my research with an open mind, willing to have two different brands if that's what it took to have the best tool for each job. My research again brought me to EGO. Ditto for the third, even with brand-agnostic shopping yet again. By the time I decided to try a battery-powered chainsaw, I was really *hoping* the EGO looked good in reviews -- and it did. I've used but never owned a gasoline-powered chainsaw, and previously owned a plug-in electric unit from a different maker. On that unit, the chain kept coming off! That frustrated and baffled me because I was being ultra-careful to follow the instructions, to keep checking the tightness, make sure it was getting enough oil... everything. The bar seemed straight to my eye, and for the life of me, I couldn't figure out the cause. But I had to still wonder if I was doing something wrong because it was the first chainsaw I'd ever used extensively. One feature, therefore, that attracted me to the EGO was the tool-free, in-the-field chain tightening system. Genius! Why hadn't this been done before? I took a chance and bought it, and was relieved and delighted that I've never once had that previous chain issue, in something like a dozen hours of use. So I guess it wasn't me; there was something wrong with that unit from another brand. But NOT dropping the chain is a low bar, no pun intended, so about its other pros: --It has *plenty* of power. I've used it on three separate occasions to cut two complete trees into logs, with an estimated total of 30 feet from the trunks alone (not counting branches), and maximum diameters of maybe 14 inches. With only light force from me, the saw easily cut through that diameter in maybe 30 seconds -- it's been months, so I can't be sure. It felt quick & easy. For comparison, I had the misfortune of using a friend's plug-in electric chainsaw -- with a much lower chain speed and probably much less power -- and it took at least that long to cut a tree branch that was more like *4* inches in diameter. A remarkable difference, especially given the convenience & portability of a battery unit! --The tool-free chain tightening has worked very well, though I will say it's become a little harder on the hand over time than it was at first. I'd like to see a grip that's a bit more ergonomic. For me, it's just not quite enough to grab onto, ideally speaking. But just being able to do it at all is a joy. --The battery, being larger-capacity than the one used by the other three EGO tools I have, lasted more than long enough for the first job, and *almost* long enough for the second (much bigger) job. Given that I was pooping out around the same time the battery was, I was not dissatisfied at all. I could have easily swapped in a fully-charged battery of the lower capacity from one of the other tools to finish the job. Or, because the battery charges quickly, I could have taken a coffee break and then finished the job with the same battery. I could only guess how many minutes of *runtime* I got in those four or five hours of work, so I won't try, but it was plenty for my needs. This kind of inconvenience is, to me, FAR better than dealing with all the downsides of gas. No comparison. But for someone who needs, say, three hours or more of actual *runtime* they'd want a 2nd battery charging while they work -- or to use gasoline. As I see it, the limitation these batteries have is only in runtime, compared to gasoline, it's NOT in power! And even for runtime they've reached a level where I'll never need gasoline tools again for my 0.8 acre yard. --It's easy to add chain oil. Sharpening is still a question, because I've *never* done that before (given that my previous saw kept dropping the chain and therefore wasn't used enough). I've also never *replaced* a chain, so I can't comment on that. --As for balance, it's definitely bar-heavy without the battery (which is in back), and feels just right with the battery attached. A good design. I wouldn't call the combo lightweight, but I'd also hesitate to call it heavy because (a) I'm not the most muscular guy around and (b) it's been so long since I've used a gasoline-powered unit that I can't fairly compare them. I really have no complaints about the weight, even after a few hours of intermittent use. Overall, I'm *very* pleased both in comparison to my previous electric chainsaw and any gasoline chainsaw, for my needs. I no longer fear getting frustrated and irritated when I see another fallen branch or tree in my yard. I'm finally confident my tool can handle the job, and conveniently. In fact, it's been kinda fun to use!

Overall I was impressed
Like all Ego products, this is a good quality saw. Quickly and easily cuts through large oaks and other hardwoods. Also easy to use and handle. My chief complaint is that it will burn through a battery pretty quickly when you are cutting large diameter trees. I wouldn't recommend for someone who cuts large quantities of firewood (instead by St!hl), but this saw is great for general use.

This has replaced my gas chainsaw - still running great a year later
I have been very surprised at the durability of this electric chainsaw. I had 10 mature trees taken down (75 - 100+ feet tall) professionally and left mostly whole. I have used this Ego chainsaw to cut them into bar-length pieces to then chop with an axe. I have owned 4 chainsaws besides this, and the Ego chainsaw has been the most reliable. I have stopped using my gas chainsaw because this Ego is so simple to use. The battery life is great, though in the picture I am using one from my Ego lawnmower (also a great purchase so far.) The key for me to chain longevity has been to just let the chainsaw do the work. I rest the bar on the fallen tree where I want to cut, and then let the weight of the chainsaw push down the bar as it cuts. A very thick log of maple will be cut entirely in less than a minute. At first I ordered Ego's bar chain oil, but once that ran out I've been using regular bar chain oil since I have so much from my other saws, and haven't noticed any difference in performance. I have been using this about 3 days a week for an hour or two, rotating between cutting off a "choppable" length from the fallen tree then carrying it over to be chopped. So I'm making a dozen or so cuts of significantly large tree trunks. I am not using this non-stop felling many trees, but instead processing these 10 trees and others in my woods casually (trees, vines etc.) I have only replaced the chain 1 time about a month ago, and that was after probably 4 months of regular use. It was extremely easy to replace. This has been a great purchase for me and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Those who worry it isn't strong enough compared to gas shouldn't worry. I've been cutting down trees for about 10 years on about 30 combined acres over several locations, and this saw is not significantly different than the Husqvarna or Stihl chainsaws I own, other than its reliability. The Ego saw is so simple and reliable that I haven't touched my gas saw probably this entire year. Lastly, it is much quieter, so I can listen to headphones without turning up the volume to a dangerously high amount to hear my phone over a gas engine. I'm sure my neighbors appreciate how much quieter I am. Of course not smelling gas fumes and managing gas and oil mixtures has been great. As long as I have a charged battery and bar oil, I have nothing to worry about with this tool. Great product!

Automatic chain-lube component's dead, another reviewer warned of this. Help!
Lubrication Flaw: About 70 minutes worth of successful use thus far, but I notice that the chain (yes, I freshly filled the chain oil reservoir with brand new, Walmart Tech brand chain oil) is dry. As in, it's NOT being lubricated. And the reservoir is still pretty much filled. I'm repeating this 2023 reviewer's comments: JP 4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use and Need Improvement Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2023 “[T]he chain/bar oil lubricating is not working well. Only small amount of oil is used after depleting a 5 Ah battery. Most of the time the chain is running on a dry status and make the chain losing its sharpness quickly. Returned the first chainsaw but the replacement is about the same. Amazon handles the return without any issue.” My Question: Since I'm experiencing the same problem, is this a design and or production-run defect? Am I missing something, EGO? 11/29/24 Update: I called EGO’s Warranty Support and "Evelyn" made me go through EGO's "protocol": Disassemble the sprocket cover and chain, make sure that the whole area is clean, find the tiny little oiler hole and confirm that it’s not clogged. I did that and confirmed that a tiny bit of oil had been emitted from the oiler hole, but no, the chain was STILL not being lubricated like my other chainsaws. Hence, it’s a flow issue: The oil isn’t being adequately distributed over the bar/chain. Evelyn insisted that I go outside and try running it again, THEN call them back if it still doesn't work. I hung up and, with everything clean (and yes, I double-checked that the oil sump is still full), I ran the saw again on a log: The chain is still dry. I also ran the saw while holding it over a brown paper bag on my work table to see if it "spit" any oil specks as it should. Nope. Still dry. Meanwhile, Evelyn sent me a "matter number" email, so I'll call back today. Hopefully, this is just a one-in-a-hundred production fluke because this failure isn't being widely reported in the reviews here. But what if this is a common design/production defect and other, casual users like me (I just use chainsaws for the occasional tree that falls and blocks my road) are blithely using this product without realizing – long past the Amazon return window – that their oiler is defective and thus, they're prematurely burning out their bar/chain? Meanwhile, I regret that I hadn't noticed the lubrication failure for those first 70 minutes, which surely shortened the bar/chain's useful life. But I had a right to rely on a “brand new” product working as it should (it cut my fallen trees just fine, btw). So even if EGO somehow “fixes” what’s pretty obviously a defect, I notice that it isn't offering to replace, or even discount, a new bar/chain – which EGO sells for $52 on its site. Alas, that's the least that it should do here. What more should it do? Answer: If this truly is a design defect, then EGO should issue a recall. Because I'm a HUGE EGO fan (I own three EGO mowers, a blower, and a trimmer -- all with their own chargers and batteries), and it would be a shame to let this product blight its good name. Another problem that's rooting my review in the one-star zone: Hurricane Helene really tore up my South Georgia acreage and I’m having to cut branches above my head, so tree debris rains down on this saw. Alas, too much of that debris gets into the chain sprocket area, forcing me to take it apart and clean it after even a minute or two of cutting. I don't have to do that with my cheaper, "Harbor Freight" house brand chain saw. EGO should design a tighter, protective mesh to prevent that. Bottom Line: For casual users, this is a five-star product IF the oiler is fixed and a better debris-deflecting design is implemented.

GREAT!!!
Should be 6 stars. If your on the fence about about EGO products get off and just buy them. Powerful, long lasting batteries and superb performance. Out of the box this saw eviscerated a large mesquite and had enough battery left to take down an offensive picnic table.

Better than gas!
So powerful! I bricked up 18” logs like they were butter. I won’t even use my gas Stihl anymore.

Great Price, Fair Sound
I love the chainsaw, it's a little heavey with the battery but it more than makes up for it with the low noise.
