My family just got back from a trip to Costa Rica. It's the wet season there now, and of course they have Zika, Dengue, etc., so I wanted to be sure I packed some good mosquito repellants to protect ourselves. Additionally, I'm a total mosquito magnet -- I once had a cloud of them follow me nearly 100 ft underground into a metro system and try to board a train with me :/ I relied upon this lotion, a 25% DEET Off Deep Woods spritz product, and Sawyer 20% Picaridin. Of the 3, I'd say this one was my favorite for using during the times I needed the most protection and peace of mind. I'd use either of the other 2 products during the day - going to lunch, hanging out on the beach, etc., but when we would go to dinner around dusk, and especially on the day we took a riverboat cruise through a nature preserve / jungle type environment, I mostly used this lotion. (Granted I've heard that the zika-carrying mosquitoes bite during the day, and I'm sure that's true, but we saw many more mosquitoes hovering around dusk and after rainstorms than at other times.) I liked that I could control exactly where I applied it and get an even coat (sometimes I feel aerosol sprays miss some spots) + the fact that I didn't have to breathe in aerosolled DEET. Anyone who uses DEET should be aware that it is not safe for use on synthetic clothing, plastics, rubbers, etc. If I sprayed my feet with DEET and then put on my rubber-type pool flops, I'd get black dye rubbing off on my feet from the shoes as the DEET damaged the shoes a bit. I also had an expensive swimsuit and didn't feel comfortable spraying DEET on it, so in these cases, I'd apply the lotion where it was safe and then spritz the picaridin product anywhere else. Always apply sunscreen first and let it sink in for a few min, btw, before applying repellant on top of it. I was so relieved to find that these various repellants worked great together at keeping us protected. After 8 days in Costa Rica, I came home without a single mosquito bite (or if I have one, I haven't found it!); my son only got 1, 0 for my daughter, but 4-5 for my husband who was a bit laxer about repellant application. Very happy with this lotion!

I bought this cream to use for our 2 weeks in Belize. We took a couple other bug precautions, but I'm happy to report that we came home totally bite free after spending considerable time outside and in the jungle. To be fair I didn't see a lot of bugs around. But I did see plenty of people around with lots of bug bites. This cream doesn't have a strong smell once it is applied, which I really appreciated cause we put it on every day, including on our face and neck. I like the hole at the top it make it easy to clip to the outside of a backpack so it was easily accessible to put on. The easier they make it to reapply bug spray, the more likely I am to use it! Also because of the low smell (compared to sprays), I was able to put it on while riding in the car with others and didn't bother them. It's more convenient to put it on then trying to go away from the group and spray yourself down. This cream also went farther than we were planning on, so we ended up with extra left over, which is better than not enough. Overall happy with my experience with this and would be happy to continue to use it in the future.

We just moved to the Inner Banks of a farming community in North Carolina from NH. No one told us about the fruit flies/gnats. The three long horrible months that these horrific creatures invade every centimeter of your personal space while flying and crawling into every crevice and orifice of your body. Off doesn’t work. Citronella doesn’t work. Praying to the black fly gods doesn’t work BUT this stuff does and thank goodness because we would have to live somewhere else mid July through mid October. The smell? Well it smells like your typical bug spray that reminds you of your favorite summer nights only not quite as potent. I love this stuff and I will be stocking up on it for the rest of my days that I live here until someone comes up with a way to rid of these nasty little demon pests completely. I would also love to see a dog friendly version come out.

This the best stuff we have ever used to fend of the mosquitos. We love to BBQ on our backyard but during the summer but it is just not possible to enjoy it fully with insect attacking us. We would get bitten all over our arm and legs. We tried many products, such as incense candles, those does help but not completely. We have heard many good reviews about DEET. So, we gave it a try. It definitely works. We can actually see a mosquitos fly by and didn't even bother coming close to us. It was such a relieve. This product comes in the form of lotion. It is quite easy to apply. Just like applying sunscreen. It is also oil based so it might not be good for everyone. It does give off some smell, but doesn't bother us too much. 4oz bottle lasted us for the whole summer. Pro: - Easy to apply - It actually works! Con: These are nothing major to be honest. The important part is that this product works. - Smell might be strong for some - Need to be careful not to get it on clothes. It will stain Verdict: Buy, Buy, Buy!

I purchased this product for a trip to the Caribbean and Central America in the month of December. I didn't want to get the 100% Deet product as I was concerned about putting that high of a concentration of chemicals on our 7 year old daughter. However, when walking around in the jungles of Costa Rica, I also didn't want her bit by any mosquitoes (nor myself or my husband). This product worked wonderfully! We applied on clothes and exposed skin (with the exception of our face). We reapplied once due to the time we were out, and NONE of us had any bites. I was especially impressed, because I can't remember any time being in the woods etc in my entire life where I haven't gotten bitten (I have type O blood, and so they are naturally attracted more to me than the rest of my family). This particular product I used on neck and some parts of our heads, where the spray just wasn't safe to use. We did make sure to take off all our clothes and shower after we returned to our room after the day out. My daughter suffers from extreme eczema and has issues with it when it comes to sunscreen, but we had NO issues with this product. I highly recommend!

*UPDATE*- I took 2 stars off due to the fact that Amazon is charging $4 now whereas they charged me $8 for the same product. Prices should NOT flucuate that much over a period of a month or so. I am an astrophotographer (hobby not profession) and I have to get far away from even my small city for my pictures and down where I usually take them there are TONS of mosquitos, I'm guessing because there's a river nearby and we don't have bats. Anyway the first night I went without repellant (just long sleeved shirt and pants which are very uncomfortable in the Summer in the middle of a California heatwave) and came back with 13 yes THIRTEEN mosquito bites and I was only out for 2 hours! Last night I went out for a second night wearing this repellant, with a short sleeved shirt and shorts and I was out for 3 hours and came back with ZERO bites! It doesn't have a strong smell either, if you put your nose up to your arm you can small it faintly, but people around you can't. Definitely my new go-to choice for mosquito repellant! *NOTE*: This review applies ONLY to this product as a MOSQUITO repellant, I can't say for sure whether it works as well on mites, ticks, ants, etc.,

This product really works. I will never travel without it. It rubs in like a moisturiser and doesn't have that horrible deet smell. Really recommend
