Mott Media has republished the version of Ray's Arithmetics from the late 1870's and early 1880's! This book introduces the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, along with counting and other basic skills. It can be used to guide your teaching for about two years - through grades 1 and 2. It goes farther than the average second grade course, but with Ray's mental system many second graders are able to do this work. Review: Best Math Teaching Book - This is hands down the absolute best math book! If you want to put your child years ahead of the average student, this is the book you need! Home school moms, no matter what youโre currently using, this book is worth the price. Small and mighty this unassuming little book breaks down math in the way it should be taught. It gives real life examples on how math works in every day life. Review: Math basics in easy learn form - Item and information in book was exactly what I was looking for math basics as taught through time frame in history

Just started
We have just started using this but I really like the simplicity of it and the fact that you do math in your head something that I struggle with but my husband who was taught to do it in his head first is amazing. This will hopefully lead our daughter down the same path as him.

Great self-learning arithmetic book for children who love to read~
Just the right book for child who can read well but doesn't care for math! Lot's of text to keep your reader busy. It's a basic arithmetic book. By the time your kids is done the book, they will know how to count well, add, subtract, multiply and divide basic whole numbers. Could also be used as the teacher reads to the students. Starts with 1 page on basic counting. Moves up. Read on traditional recitation of lesson (has only a few, for addition, subtraction, multiplication tables etc. Slim book, Around 95 pages. At this price even if it's softcover you could probably just buy a new one for each child. If your child is in 1st/ 2nd grade consider getting a more modern book or the next book in the series as many 1st graders nowadays are doing fractions and this book doesn't cover fractions, shapes, geometry, etc. Not sure it covers placements either (tens, hundreds, thousands).

Fantastic curriculum
Beautiful reprinting of Ray's Arithmetic. A truly wonderful curriculum for first and second grade math. It doesn't have much information for how to teach, so the parent-teacher guide is necessary but used correctly its great.

The absolute best math book!
I always try to supplement my math with other ways of learning it with my children, I always, always come back to this book. And it never disappoints, my kids never get as solid of a grasp of math as when I go back to this book.
