Excellent sun shade/shelter
I have been camping many years and have had numerous types of tents and shelters over this time. This 15x15 sun shade/shelter is my favorite so far for a number of reasons. First off, it seems to be of excellent quality for the price. For a shade of this size, it is hard to beat. The tradeoff is for a reasonable price, you need to take a little time to setup, but I feel it is well worth it. The first time doing the setup took quite a long time since it was taking us a long bit to figure out how it all goes together. So just be patient and the most important first step is to use the strap pictured in the manufacturer photo, that's the strapping you see on the "ground" in the photo. You only use it for the initial setup and remove it once you are set. I'm writing this after using this for a full season of camping and have setup and taken down several times now. As for the quality of the parts, everything seems to be of very good to excellent quality. The supports are steel poles with internal metal shock cords which help keeps it organized and easier to assemble. Contrary to one of the negative reviews I saw on here, the internal shock cords certainly do NOT seem fragile to me and mine have already been through several setups/teardowns with me with no problems at all. When assembled, I do not have to stoop down at all to walk under the centers (5'10") and the interior is even higher. The images on the site barely do it justice to show the assembled size. I saw some other comments about it not doing well in the rain. I have not had that experience and felt it has done an excellent job. We had a LOT of light showers this season and it kept everything pretty dry. One trip we had a pretty substantial heavy rain for a short-medium duration and it was still almost perfectly dry underneath. Granted the material is very lightweight, but it does seem to do a very good job shedding water. There are plenty of other spray on treatment options available which could probably improve performance in very heavy rain if treated in advance. Due to the way this structure is designed, it is essential that it must be staked down at the feet. This is absolutely critical as the strapping used for setup should not be left on after assembly (it is easy to trip on and accidentally get knocked off in the dark) and not having that or having it staked in will compromise the structure integrity. Also, please don't make a silly mistake and not use the guy wires and also stake them down if there is going to be any significant wind. These help tremendously in keeping the structure stable and strong. Otherwise realize that there is little difference between this and a very large kite with a strong enough wind. Don't regret skipping that step! Very happy with this and seriously considering a second one for our larger camping events.

Sturdy, well-designed, and aerodynamic sun shade.
This sun shade has so far exceeded my expectations. It is well made and well designed. I'm most impressed at how well it resists wind gusts. I'm using it in the desert, and so far it has easily wihtstood 10-15 mph winds; I think it could easily withstand more (time will tell). It is aerodynamically designed, and comes with eight attached guylines near the corners, which are easily adjusted. It comes with decent stakes, but I purchased it with with Coleman 10-In. Steel Nail Tent Pegs, 4 Count , which are longer and sturdier. Staking it down is essential in high winds. The air vent at the apex is a nice touch; it allows some warm air to escape. I had considered getting the 12x12 version, but this one at 15x15 is generously sized for several of us to take our chairs and shelter from the sun, with headroom for standing. But in very strong sun (8,000 feet in the clear skies of desert mountains) with no wind, you can definitely feel some heat radiating from the sun-baked canopy. It feels better when there's a breeze -- and it's cooler sitting down than standing with your head near the canopy. It's reasonably easy to assemble, but it requires some strength to bend the curved poles enough to fit in the four corner pieces. One of the last steps is to use the included perimeter straps to connect to each corner and pull the corners together (which also raises the roof higher); that also takes some muscle. I've almost gotten it together all by myself; but it's much easier with two or more people who can easily push it into its final shape, then stake it down. The storage case with rudimentary wheels is helpful for moving it around on pavement, because it is quite heavy. I've used it twice so far, each time for several days. We'll see how it holds up over time, but it looks promising.

This item is great. To set up you need at least two people. Set up is kind of dificult but once you figure out what goes where it becomes easier to set. The stakes that this set brings where not great at all. Make sure to get a good set of stakes and lost of them to hold it down. We set it up near beach so it was very windy. Lucky I have very good stakes.

You get what you pay for
We used the 15 by 15 version of this sun shelter at the Outer Banks in North Carolina. The shelter was brand new and I had set it up at home with my wife 1 time before going to OBX. I have used numerous tent structures in the past including Eureka, North Face, Kelty, and Cabelas. The last sun shelter was a Kelty which is no longer made. It was great. The bad: This shelter is not built to the standard of the other tents mentioned above. However I did not pay nearly as much for it either. The zipper on the bag broke the first time I tried to zip it back up. Not due to misuse, just a really cheap zipper. The first time I put it up, 1 of the shock cords that keeps the poles together broke. The second time another broke. Again, this is not due to misuse, they are simply cheap. This does not prevent you from using the tent. This thing is heavy. Poles are steel. This is not waterproof and I suspect heavy rain may weight it down quickly and possibly ruin it. Once up, you can tell the seams where the Velcro attachments are located are not going to last long. The instructions for how to put the tent up are not the best way to put it up. We finally got it down to 2 people setting it up in about 15 minutes with a 5-7 mph wind. I cannot imagine 1 person putting this up in anything but calm conditions unless you really work out a method for that. The shelter cover is huge and with any wind it would be very difficult. The good: The coverage (shade provided) is very large and allowed a large group with dogs and kids to sit underneath. Where the poles join together the loose tolerance of how they fit was actually beneficial in that grains of sand did not bind the poles together. However that also means loads are not transferred as well along the poles due to the lose fit. For the beach it was beneficial. Even though it is heavy, 2 people could pick up 2 corners and reposition the shelter. It did not get hot underneath (obviously the breeze helps) and the side openings are big allowing a great view of what is around you. You can walk through any side opening and the headroom is superb. Once up, it held up well in a 15 mph wind. Get yourself good stakes for the ground conditions you will use it on. If you do not stake it well it will take off and it will be destroyed. The poles will not hold up to any abuse. Summary: So there it is. I paid about $170 total (on sale) for the Point Loma so the price does fluctuate. Many members of the family loved it for the size and shading and we did get pretty proficient at putting it up. It is cheaply made (the old Kelty mentioned above cost almost twice as much) and I suspect it will not last more than 2 or 3 beach seasons. Just know you are getting what you pay for. Update: We gave up on this product (2 vacations) and no longer use it. Internal cords all broke, seams were separating, and the poles were beginning to bend permanently at numerous locations (small deflections but obviously going to get bigger). Since we figured it would fail during the middle of a vacation we opted to avoid the issue. I have changed my rating from 3 to 1 star. If you do buy this you'll get less than what you pay for it.

Catastrophicly Awesome
EDIT: Coleman does not sell replacement parts for this product. Because of this, the product was single use for me and that's not cool. I can handle when things break because of crazy storms, but it's irresponsible to sell an outdoor structure without replacement parts. I've dropped the review to two stars from four. Really it was GREAT until it stopped being a structure. Overall: This shade structure is big, beautiful and wonderfully shady without losing access to precious winds while camping. It's Not Light. It stood up to some light storms, though. Putting it up: I put it up the first time at the event I was using it at, solo. Doable as long as you have some upper body strength (or possibly do it better than I did, hard to know.) Getting the feet set up correctly was mildly frustrating. Usage: Awesome. It has a center hook to hang a lantern, and I hung three solar lanterns in the "doorways" and they looked beautiful and got plenty of sun in May in Texas. My tall friend commented it was nice to not have to stoop to enter. I laid down a blue tarp with a canvas tarp over it and kids played in it all weekend. Teardown: It was super easy. All it needed was a really big storm with heavy sustained winds and huge gusts aimed directly at one of the corners and it practically took itself down. In a storm that took out every unstaked ez-up (and a couple of well staked ez-ups) and had a handful of 10x20 steel carports doing cartwheels, this puppy didn't quite make it. Three joints on two legs were bent at their insertion point, nearly sheared off, and one of those legs twisted at a joint point creating this really beautiful but wrong s-curve out of the leg. The stakes that came with it mercifully pulled themselves out before the other two legs crumpled and they, too, were bent and quite impressive. The canopy was in perfect shape. Between the Velcro straps attaching it to the poles and the 8 tie-down points, it held together perfectly. I'm hoping to get replacement legs because it was great until the weather decided I didn't deserve nice things for wanting to see how well it would weather a storm. (It totally weathered the first storm, it was the second unexpected one from a totally different direction and I had left it alone that it didn't make it through.)

Big, heavy, easier to set up with two--not recommended for tent camping. Good for camper camping.
The 15x15 unit is quite large. I set it up by myself in a public park just to get the hang what it would be like on a camping trip. I underestimated its size. This thing is enormous! The height of the ceiling at the crown is almost 8', much higher than I can reach (I'm 5'11"). The frame is pretty solid tubular steel, slotted for easy fit and assembly. Each piece is strung together with cable strand and springs, so the only pieces that come apart are designed to come apart. The canopy is made of heavy duty fabric, but over time and effort of stretching the fabric over the frame, I can see it tearing. Strapping is provided to anchor the frame's feet while the frame goes up, but once the feet are staked down (stakes are provided, but they would serve poorly in sand--instead use tent screws), the straps are no longer necessary and can be removed. Guy lines are provided for additional stability once staked (use tent screws in sand). The roof is vented, but instructions warn that in humid climates, condensation can gather at the crown and drip, and this is not an indication of a leak (especially on a sunny day ;-) ). Overall, once you set this up, you'll want to keep it up for a while because it's a hassle to take down. The wheels on the case make it easily portable, but it does weigh over 40 lbs so getting it in and out of the vehicle is a pain.

looks like a keeper
Took about 25 minutes to set up without really looking at the directions with my Wife. I realize the description states 15' x 15' but after seeing it up it is very large. We plan on taking it to the beach this summer to get in the shade when needed. My kids joked saying we could have multiple families under the dome at the same time comfortably. We were using a pop up canopy but no more as long as I have this. The wind was blowing equal to a normal day on the beach in Florida, no issues at all setting up or maintaining. So far very satisfied. I think I could set it up now with all my kids helping in about 10 minutes. I believe this will be easier to transport vs. the old pop up as well. One note; I will replace the ground strapping (trip hazard) with extra deep homemade sand spikes (1/4" diameter by 12" with welded on facets). The corner brackets have a 1/4" through hole already. A little more work for me now but no broke toes or worse at the beach from tripping on the strapping. Just my $.02.
