The Hyundai 1600w / 230v, 14" Bar Powerful Electric Chainsaw is terrific value for money. Compact, easy to assemble, easy to use, quiet compared to a screaming two stroke engine and efficient. Bought as a hand, easy to use saw when you have power nearby. Simple to start, unlike my big chainsaw ! I bought the Hyundai chain saw, three spare blades and a litre of C/S oil for just under £100. The round open the C/S to put the chain on and tension it works well. If the chamber fills up with cuttings then you can't tension the chain properly, so UNPLUG the power and open the C/S up, clear out the debris. put it back together and check the oil and retention the chain ~ less than 5 minutes !! The chains have a tough job as there aren't that many teeth to cut. When sharp it works wonders and when it starts going blunt ~ CHANGE THE CHAIN ~ it can only cut so much and still be sharp. With a set of sharp chains you can change the chain and start again in just a few minutes. Just save the chain sharpening for a rainy day job in the shed/workshop/kitchen. For a little electric chainsaw I can recommend the Hyundai 1600w / 230v, 14" Bar Powerful Electric Chainsaw from Amazon. Don't forget your spare chains and oil. As for the bonus ~ it has a three year warranty !!!

First review for anything I've ever bought. I've seen a few negative reviews of this, ignore them!! It's not intended for professional use, tree surgeons don't use corded chainsaws. For use in your garden, it's fantastic, especially as it costs a fraction of the price of many out there. Let the saw do the work, don't force it, and it's brilliant. Less than three hours, including splitting with the axe. Very pleased.

Really good value for money, ideal for small jobs, but a bit disappointed that the chain oil is not supplied with the saw, why not add a small bottle and add it to the price, then it is ready to use, rather than have to wait while you get / order some oil to go in the lube tank. Other than that, easy to assemble and lightweight, but as not been able to use yet, cant say anything about performance.

Excellent machine did the job

I hope Amazon keeps this review as it might help you to make a good decision. This chainsaw is not powerful enough to cut anything. Not even 2 inches trunks. It simply doesn't cut.

Logs have suddenly become an everyday part of our life. Not only have we converted the fireplace we use every evening in winter to burn logs (because of the forthcoming ban on full fat coal) but also two huge mature beech trees that were growing within a few feet of our house have been felled as the roots were causing serious damage. Finally, 6 or 7 mature beech trees on the other side of our house have been crown lifted. The tree surgeon (Craig) who did both jobs has been great and not only said we could have a lot of the wood but his oppo also spent a day or two cutting a lot of it down to manageable sizes. When I said to Craig that I was thinking of getting an electric chainsaw as I could foresee that even when our wood bonanza is used up we will always have a need to cut wood he said it would be near to useless and petrol was definitely the better option. I stuck to my guns though and I am so glad I did. This little saw is not only surprisingly cheap but it is so light and small it fits in a cupboard in our utility room. I have only tried it on small pieces of fresh beech so far (up to 5" dia) and it goes straight through them. I was less sure when it came to some holly trunks that had been drying for 3 or 4 years and were up to a foot in dia. No probs though, in half an hour I had a pile of holly slices. I realise it is only going to be a part of how we deal with our glut of wood but It really has surprised me by just how effective it is cutting wood in these smaller sizes. I'm not as strong as I was and to have a tool which is so easy to handle is good. One comment that someone made that has proved true for me too is that it does use a lot of oil but so far I am pleased that I am not worrying about whether it is getting enough of it as I once did with an old manually oiled petrol chainsaw. I guess that if it gets a lot of use then oil costs may be an issue (but maybe that is true with all saws).

Amazon's description is accurate when it describes it for use sawing logs, and I suggest softwood, as the chain is not particularly aggressive for cutting hardwood. For smaller branches, I've no doubt it performs well. On larger and/or hard wood, it struggles and uses a lot of chain oil. The chain will need replacing after the first session. We had a grafted cherry where the root stock had reverted with a hefty trunk. The dry spring and hot summer then killed off the grafted cherry. Having sawed 2/3 through the trunk by hand with a bow saw fitted with a rip blade. It was time to use a chainsaw - see photo. The Hyundai has excellent instructions, but note that it does not include chain oil. It might be OK for light work such as logs for a wood burner, but it made heavy work of the sawing the cherry trunk. Updated 14 and 21 April 2026 When I removed the chain adjuster knob and cover to clean it, the adjuster fixed to the bar had one fixing (rivet) instead of two. I sent Hyundai a close-up photo of the adjuster, clearly showing the missing fixing. A long story, but Hyundai sent a rivet for the adjuster, but I don't have the tools to fix it. Neither do I feel qualified to carry out a repair that may mean the chain travelling at 13 metres / second could become loose. Therefore the complete chainsaw was returned via Amazon to Hyundai. That's why at least 50% of the stuff I buy online is from Amazon.
