Review: Wonderful Resource! Has it all! - Loving this book! I am new to soap making with lye. I have made a few melt & pour soaps but want to move to cold process soap making. This book is not just recipes. It explains the science of soap making as well as a lot of information on the process, the tools, different types of oils, additives, troubleshooting and terminology. The information is well laid out and easy to read and understand. There are also sidebar boxes with information that is really helpful. I was really happy to see a section on using herbs and other natural additives which is my preference. I also enjoyed the chapter on designing your own soaps. I have not yet tried any of the recipes, but expect to do so as soon as I get all my ingredients. I believe that this book will be my go to resource for soap making as it is so informative. Review: Good new soap maker book - I am a lifelong electrician who needed a winter hobby. I started making soap 3 months ago give or take. I have found that I love making soap - but I have also found that making beautiful soap is not easy. Some reviews I read before I bought this book seem disheartening. This is a well laid out guide. Just because this book is well laid out with good recipes and good pictures does not mean my creations will turn out the first time! It takes a lot of practice and a Lot of learning! I take good notes during each recipe and write down things I learned each time. Also I have found that soap has a bit of a mind of it's own and it will turn out the way it wants to - to some extent. I have to let it be what it wants to become, with my persuasion. this is a good book and I recommend it. The soap is Healthy! There are many things that have to be purchased to become a soap maker, it is a process and it is worth it. Take the time and dont be discouraged. If it didn't turn out the way you wanted, still it is Healthy soap. Use it up and try again! I have made a batch (marbling technique) 3 or 4 times over and over trying to get it right. Each time I learn and get better. I recommend this book and soapmaking as a whole. It has been a good way for my non artistic person to do something artistic! :)

Invaluable handy book
Covid brought out my crafty side, but what else is there to do nowadays except make things and spend money on amazon.....but this was actually pretty cool. It seemed very challenging at first, myth first recipe was Aloe Vera Swirl. More difficult than I thought during the process. But after doing a recipe once, you get to see how you could have done things better in the first place, maybe line things up, have things ready to go. I really wished I had looked for cheaper things to use during the process instead of going out to buy new items. The book says you can use things around the house and I should have not started until I found cheaper used kitchen items. I was so impatient and ready to jump in. A great read, I enjoyed the learning process, the recipes look so cool and fun. My advice, do the simple ones first. I got so excited by what I made with my own two hands that Im seriously considering doing this from home as a little side gig. Best of luck to you and enjoy the process.

Excellent Book for Soapmakers!
Wow. This book is really good! Lots of recipes. Explanations are clear and concise. Beautiful photos that make you want to dive right in to soapmaking. My only negative comment is that there is no use of fragrance oils in the recipes. All recipes are formulated with essential oils, which is fantastic for expensive beautiful soap. It would be more inclusive to have a few recipes with fragrance oils though.

From a brand new "soaper"
I'm brand new to soap making. I decided to get into it because I bought a house that has a huge (empty) workshop. I downloaded and read the kindle samples of ALL the top (8) books on soapmaking. I watched a half dozen videos, including some by this author. I bought ONLY this book and a scattering of supplies for cold process and one melt-and-pour. (Never again on "mp" soap!) My first cold process soap is on its second week of curing and I'm ready to try a new recipe. I re-ordered supplies. Please know I don't know this Anne-Marie, but she had the best prices on pigments and such, so I ordered all that stuff from her. (Although I got other stuff from her two main competitors, like some oils) This company is OBVIOUSLY run by a woman who really loves this whole thing. They keep in touch with update emails that are rather quaint; they give a tiny free gift with the order; and they have advice/warnings on the ordering copy so you know how to use it and how much. I've found the book incredibly thorough and helpful; I think she's kind of sweet and quite sincere in a midwestern sort of way on the videos; and her company is just adorable, frankly. I'm eager to get my first order from them, but in the interim, I have to say I'm loving the book. I feel confident in my new hobby thanks to this woman's writing.

I didn't want to like it---but I DID!! And now it's a new favorite!
I didn't want to like this book--I really thought it would be just a gimmick for selling soap-making tools and equipment through the author's web business. But I ended up enjoying it in spite of myself! The recipes mostly stick to wholesome ingredients, and the author suggests and demonstrates some VERY creative ideas and techniques that I can't wait to try! Although the projects would definitely be easier with the specific Brambleberry equipment, colorants, etc. called for with the recipes, I think most of them could be adjusted to be done without all the special stuff--at least for an experienced soap maker. And that's what I'm planning to do! She offers insights into which recipes should be insulated and pushed through the gel stage, and which should not--that was something new and interesting to me. She's tried several ingredients that I was hesitant to try, for fear of having to throw out an entire batch of failed soap ($$$$). So, I now feel comfortable using bananas, for example, or cucumber pulp and peel, lemons, etc. I'm really eager to dig in and try some new things, thanks to Anne-Marie's creative ideas and demonstrations. The pictures in this book are what make it so appealing--they are not only beautiful, but very helpful as well. I also really enjoy the spiral, lay-flat binding--super helpful for using at the soap table. Just a note...she isn't overly concerned about temperatures with most of the recipes, so if you're a by-the-rule kind of soap maker (like I am), that might take a bit of getting used to. This is a good book for the experienced cold-process soaper, but for someone just starting out, I'd start with a more basic one. (She does go over the basic cold-process procedure at the beginning of the book, and then reviews it with each recipe.)
