Dogs love it! Good value.
The first thing I did was to place the content of this bag in a large bowl to stir it well. It does state to do this on the package but I didn’t see that the first time I bought this product. This helps distribute the meat throughout all other ingredients. I place the rehydrated food in with the meats I have already prepared for my 2 Basset Hounds. They have been doing very well on their new human grade food diet. I would recommend this product as a great supplement to any dogs diet. BTW, both my dogs love liver.

No Quality Control or Customer Service
We switched to Nature's Diet Simply Raw Freeze-Dried Raw Whole Food Meal (Beef) from IAMS dry dog food due to our dog’s skin/hair problems, digestive issues, and gas. We have an 85lb hound. Here’s what I’ve learned after 13 bags of this stuff over the last 4+ months. The Good: After a month, my dog’s skin/hair problems, digestive issues, and gas were all resolved. We previously fed her 2 cups of IAMS dry dog food per meal (2x per day). Now she only eats 1 to 1.25 cups of Nature’s Diet meal. Dog drinks less than half of the water she used to. The Bad: You have to mix this food with water, in a 1:1 ratio, and then let it sit for 15mins to 1hour. Once the food is mixed with water we normally let it sit for 15 mins and it quickly congeals into a thick moist paste with hydrated chucks of meat and vegetables. This is what I consider to be the normal or “good” consistency. Some bags however don’t congeal at all no matter how long you let it sit. This means you feed your dog something like a brown soup with hard chunks of meat and vegetables in it. Not good. I’m guessing these bags lack whatever binding agent they use. After having this problem twice, I decided to open another bag of Nature’s Diet and see if it had the same “brown soup” consistency but it did not. The bag appeared to congeal or thicken as expected. Based on that, I mixed the good bag and the bad bag together and had a dog food that was somewhere between good and bad consistency. Then it happened again. One good bag, one bad bag. I mixed the two and worked with what we had. Then I had six “bad” bags of Nature’s Diet. Every bag, whether of good or bad quality, had the same label which indicated “1722292 Best Buy 10/2024.” Different Purchasing Options: Originally I purchased this product from Amazon and then learned I could get it a few dollars cheaper directly from the Nature’s Diet website. Because of the issues identified here, I’ve switched back and forth between Amazon and direct from Nature’s Diet and the lack of consistency exits no matter where you purchase it from. Lack of Customer Service: At this price point, I was done conducting my own dog food science experiments. I sent the company and email describing these issues and asked for a resolution. After more than two weeks, I never received a response. I reviewed Nature’s Diet return/refund policy and it stated you can only return unopened food. That’s problematic for customers when you don’t know what you’re going to get before you open the bag. With their lack of response to my email, I contacted them using their “Contact Us” feature on their website. After more than two weeks using “Contact Us”, I never received a response. In summary, this is not what I consider quality dog food. Based on my experience, there appears to be no consistency from one bag to the next. It appears Nature’s Diet has no quality control. It also appears they have no customer service. Based on these experiences, I plan to transition to a competitors product.

Our dog loves it and you can see real fruits and vegetables
I was a little weary about getting this dog food after reading some poor reviews about dogs having digestive issues. We have a 15lb pomapoo, and she absolutely loves this food. We didn't even slowly transition her and she's had no digestive issues. She is twice as excited for breakfast and dinner then she was with kibble. You can see that there is real fruits and vegetables once you rehydrate it with water. She has also not gained or lost any weight. I'm not a professional so I can only hope this brand is giving her enough protein. But at least she's very happy. It took a while to figure out serving size in bulk. We just make 3 cups of dry food with 6 cups of hot water in an airtight rectangular Tupperware (sometimes we use no salt chicken broth). Once it has fully rehydrated and coagulated in the fridge, we cut this into six portions. We simply use a fork to mush in a little hot water for serving. We started by making the food in a tall circular Tupperware, but it was hard to properly make portions the same size. Hope this helps someone not have to go through trial and error like we did!

Too picky of a dog. Looked like a winner food.
My dog would not eat this food. Tried it with his dried food, tried it with his canned food, tried it by itself. He would not eat it no matter what I did. Big disappointment. He is very picky though.

Picky Eater Approved – High-Quality Ingredients and Great Value
I’m really impressed with Nature's Diet Simply Raw Freeze-Dried Whole Food Meal (Beef). The first thing I noticed was the clear and concise ingredient list – real, recognizable meat, vegetables, and fruit pieces instead of mystery “meal” and fillers. You can actually see the whole food ingredients, which gives me confidence in what I’m feeding my dog. I also appreciate the added probiotics, prebiotics, and Omega 3, 6, and 9. It feels more like a complete, thoughtfully formulated meal rather than just another kibble alternative. When mixed with water, it rehydrates nicely but does not turn into a soupy mush – it keeps some texture, which my dog seems to really enjoy. My dog is extremely picky, and she absolutely woofs this down. No coaxing, no toppers needed. It even smells good (for dog food!), which is a nice bonus. The resealable packaging is sturdy and practical, keeping the food fresh and making it easy to store and use. Shipping has been super-fast every time I’ve ordered, and for the quality of the ingredients and how much fresh food it makes, I think it’s a great value. I feel good serving this, and my dog is clearly a fan.

Not chunky
This is not human grade food. Found some animal hair when rehydration took place. The picture of the rehydrate food looks nothing like what is inside the package. It is mostly powder and needs mixed with water. Have used it a few times and the dog eats this and other food together.

Is this meat? I think not!
The “meat” is spongy and rubbery. I couldn’t cut through some of the piece's. It smells sweet. Which may be ok but I’ve never had dog food smell sweet. I tried both ways to feed my boy. He wouldn’t eat it. I don’t blame him, I wouldn’t eat it either. The “broth” isn’t broth. It’s just water that I added. No thickness like broth should have been and no smell of beef at all. None of the piece's soaked up the water. I left it in the fridge over night and it had the same amount of water. 1/4 cup food 1/4 cup water. When I cut through the meat you can hear a crackle sound. Same with some other pieces. You can hear it in the video. I don’t know if they used meat then it changed while processing it. Or if it’s not meat and they’re making you think it is. Not sure if “processing” is the correct word. It’s just really strange. I am only allowed 1 video. My video is 4 min. long Cropping it so it makes complete sense is hard. That pea I cut into felt like a chip. It was crunchy. The 1 pea I cut into after that was normal. (Shown in pic) You can see the “meat” bounce back after cutting into it. I wish I could send the entire video. This short 1 doesn’t show everything that’s strange about this food. I tried to cut 4 different pieces of meat. I could only get through 1 out of the 4. The other 3 would not cut no matter how I cut or how hard I pushed. So disappointing.

Transition of kibble to real food is easily done with this product!
I bought this freeze dried dog food because I want my dog to be healthier and live longer. It is real food, without all the nutrients burned out of it like kibble! It has no grains in it. It is food like they eat in the wild. Talk about easy to use! I have a container that I mix 1 cup of food with 1 1/2 cups of warm water, stir it up and let it sit for fifteen minutes or so and mix it up again and either feed or put in in the fridge where it will last for three days! You can see all the chunks of meat and vegetables in it. My dog loves this stuff! He does like to wait for it to warm up a little after it’s been in the fridge. One one pound bag will make up to 18 lbs of food so I think the value for what you get is great considering the health benefits for your pet alone!
