For the Love of ACT Science: An innovative approach to mastering the science section of the ACT standardized exam

This book is AMAZING! While I always loved science as a subject, the ACT science section was my weakest section by far. However, reading the book made me realize that I had made the ACT Science section way more complicated than it actually was. This book succinctly provided clear, pointed tips for tackling each type of problem in the ACT science section, making it easy for me to grasp exactly what I needed to practice to do well in the ACT. I also loved the way that the book is structured, as you start with the easy, basic tips and ideas and builds up from there. It's also short (which is great!) yet has plenty of practice problems for you to practice and master each tip. All in all, I studied this book for about a week and a half, doing its practice problems and then applying its tips to practice ACT tests, and when I next took the ACT I found that my science score was raised by 7 points! Boosting my science score by SEVEN POINTS after having completed just the second chapter, this book is truly amazing. It provides strategies for every question type and gives you specific practice problems to reinforce every new skill or strategy that you learn. Before getting this book, I interviewed four other ACT Science section specialists (science only ACT tutors) -- none of them ever came close to providing the same insight that this book provides. Never before have I seen a book for the ACT science section, or any section for that matter, that is such a high caliber.Further, I was blown away by the author himself. I was having difficulty with one particular type of problem and so decided to reach out to the author of "For the love of ACT Science": Mr. Cerro. Mr. Cerro personally responded to my email and he gave 30 minutes of his time to help me with my one particular question. He is AMAZING.This book completely transformed the mindset I use for the ACT Science section and allowed me to score in the 98th percentile even though I had only made it 2 chapters into the book. I finished the book and have been scoring in the 99th percentile ever since. BEST BOOK EVER!

My daughter had us purchase this book for her to prepare to take the AP exam. It is very informative and she feels it helped. Prepare her to take the exam. It is definitely worth the money and we felt the price was very reasonable. We would definitely purchase again.

Loved this workbook! The first time my son took the ACT he scored a 27 on the science portion. He told me he ran out of time to finish the test. He said he read every passage and every question. I realized he needed help understanding how to take the test. I tutored him using this workbook for 2 months. I taught him nothing science related only how to dissect the questions and information given using this workbook. He scored a 35. Highly recommend!

I'm a Harvard grad, ACT perfect scorer and full-time private tutor since 2002. As a tutor, I continue to take the ACT up to 3 times a year, and have scored a perfect 36 on the ACT Science section.Before this book, there was a complete dearth of prep materials for the Science section of the ACT, which is the last of 4 multiple-choice sections on the ACT. ACT Science is a very tricky, fast-paced section, dissimilar to anything on the SAT, a section that should in fact be titled "Scientific Data Interpretation." I am happy to say that this book has filled that gap nicely, by categorizing various strategies needed for success on this section. However, since others have already aptly sung Mr. Cerro's praises, I will make a few suggestions for improvement.1) Flesh out the "outside science knowledge" section to reflect all of the content required in the ACT TIR tests (Test Information Release) that have been released through Crack ACT and other means. For example, there are practice questions in this book that include the pH scale, but nowhere on the "ACT Science Cheat Sheet" (page 59) is there an explanation of the actual pH scale. The same goes for the order of planets from the sun, which was required knowledge on a recent, official ACT exam, but is not yet included in this book.2) Include references to real ACT questions that fit the described categories, so that ACT self-studiers can try to apply their newly learned Science skills to official ACT Science test questions, instead of only imitation questions written by Cerro. There are around 75-80 real ACTs floating around on the web, so referencing all of them could take a while, but it would be immensely helpful to students to practice with real ACT questions as well. I would suggest starting with the most recently released ACTs, and working backwards.Mr. Cerro could even take a page out of the "PWN the SAT" playbook and create a companion website for the book, one that includes updates to the book and reflects any recent changes to this ever-evolving exam.3) Create a Kindle version! It would be more affordable, faster and easier to use, and users could search for key terms, which would make a big difference since the book currently lacks an index.For my personal ACT prep recommendations, google "ACT Action Plan."

I teach high school chemistry and ACT science prep. I have reviewed several other ACT science books and this is THE BEST book out there. Don’t waste your money on any other book. Some of the things I really love about the book: They have very clear strategies along with targeted practice and full length sections. The book is a manageable length and can be quickly digested if you are in a time crunch. It has strategies divided into high yield and advanced, so both average and top scorers will find the book useful.

I've tutored ACT math and science for over ten years and often struggled to find helpful supplemental resources to help students break down the science section into similar question types and more digestible parts. This book breaks down the science section for students who get overwhelmed and is an excellent resource for high-scoring, middle-of-the-road, and low-scoring students.

Along being very comprehensive of content and background knowledge needed for certain questions for the ACT test, the author does a great job at teaching you the formatting and critical reasoning needed to do well and confident in your abilities to do well. It is an easy book get through especially if you are limited on study time , this book is a cinch.
