The two factors to consider when choosing a flag holder...and how this holder ranks.
I'm more than pleased with this flag holder, which I have mounted onto a 6" x 6" wood pole at my front steps. The previous holder--which was my first--was ultimately ripped off the post due to the wind that was continually whipping the flag, and putting strain on the holder. What I've learned since my first holder is the two most important factors for if a holder will stand up to the constant pull. 1. Does the holder have a good amount of distance between the holes at the top of the holder and those at the bottom, or are they too close? If the distance is short, then it is more likely to be pulled out with time. (THIS HOLDER HAS A LONG DISTANCE.) 2. Use extremely long screws. If I remember correctly, I didn't use the screws that came with this holder--although I think what they supplied would be just fine. Instead, I wanted to beef up the holding power of this flag holder even more so I used my own screws because the longer the better. (I think I used 3" screws.) This holder has a great appearance and finish, and I think it has the holding power to last forever.
