The light is made in China. I have only used it a few times but I believe it is well made. I use it for running in the dark and it has worked well for that purpose.

It sounds like yours was bad to begin with. Mine lasts several hours. Have you tried contacting FlipBelt's customer service? If you go to their website there is contact info for returns.

Yes. The FlipBelt Running Light uses an 18650 lithium-ion cell classified rechargeable battery which is slightly larger than a AA battery which provides superior capacity and discharge rates.
