Battles by Map - Ideal Coffee Table Book
A coffer table wonder! If you love military history this is the volume to seek out. Set with an introduction by Peter Snow the book looks back as far as Kadesh and Thermopylae right up to 2003's Iraq war. The book is lavishly illustrated and takes each battle as a case study. It must be good because for the first time I managed to gain some real understanding of the Thirty Years War through the section on the Battle of White mountain. One disappointment however was the section on the Plains of Abraham where General Wolfe beat the French and sealed the future of an English-speaking America. This section is very sketchy and for some reason lacks the detail of other conflicts. It is from the 19th century to the present where the book excels. First Marne and Gallipoli are covered in detail and the progress of the battles set out clearly. more recently the section on the Six-Day War between Israel and its Arab neighbours shows the sheer scale of the Israeli victory although it could have been bookended with some commentary on Yom Kippur in 1973. The purpose of books such as this however are to dip into rather than read from cover to cover. This will satisfy the curious for many hours.

Good Book
This is a really cool book. I was slightly worried because some of the reviews said the book would come damaged, but mine was in perfect condition! If you like battles, analyzing tactics, and history in general, I highly recommend this book! The graphics and the explanations are both very well put together.

I believe most of the reviews already covered this fantastic book - an interesting view of past battles with lots of information I couldn't find on the internet. Highly recommended!
