This supplement appears to be a high-quality product. It mixes easily in a smoothie, as well as the Kozy Shack tapioca pudding I like so well. I recently had a respiratory infection that triggered Pityriasis Rosea (PR), a viral rash. The medical field knows little about PR, other than it is viral (non-communicable), and goes away on it's own normally in 6-12 weeks (but can last much longer-years). They THINK it may be associated with the chicken-pox virus. The reason I purchased this product is to try to alleviate the severe itching of PR rash, since L-Lysine address the herpes virus associated with chicken-pox, shingles, etc.. Lysine seems to prevent the herpes simplex virus from growing. Just when I think I have it under control (the itching tolerable) I seem to have a relapse, so I don't know if it is wishful thinking or mind over matter, since I've only taken two doses of L-Lysine, that I feel some relief. A few additional benefits of taking L-Lysine that most people can benefit from include: (1) Cholesterol Management. In the liver, l-lysine converts to carnitine which helps your body burn fat. Because of this fat-burning ability, studies have shown that lysine in the diet may result in decreased levels of LDL (or bad) cholesterol. (2) Bone Health. Everyone knows that calcium is critical for strong bones. L-lysine helps the body to absorb the calcium and decreases the excretion of calcium. Some studies also show that l-lysine may increase the activity of bone and collagen building cells. Decreasing the loss of calcium and increasing bone-building activity may slow the bone loss that happens with age. (3) Herpes Prevention. L-lysine may act as an antiviral by blocking the production of the Herpes Simplex Virus. Studies suggest that following a diet rich in lysine (or taking a lysine supplement), while not curing the virus, may prevent outbreaks of genital herpes and cold sores associated with the herpes virus. L-lysine may also help herpes sores heal faster. (4) Proper Body Growth. L-lysine is one of the primary components of proteins. Therefore, it is critical for proper body growth particularly in children. Because it helps your body absorb calcium, l-lysine is also critical for growing bones and other tissues. Low levels of lysine may lead to failure to grow due to a protein deficiency. (5) Anxiety and Stress Reduction. In 2004, the National Academy of Sciences reported that lysine supplements can reduce stress and anxiety in a population that consumed very low levels of l-lysine rich foods. (6) Shingle Relief. Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox in children. With shingles, the adult will experience a painful rash usually located on one side of the body along one of the major spinal nerves. While not a cure for shingles, l-lysine may help decrease the duration or intensity of the disease. (7) Pain Relief:Studies are being conducted to determine if l-lysine acts as an anti-inflammatory. If it does, you may be able to get pain relief from an adequate intake of this amino acid. (8) Heart Health. Finally, l-lysine may be effective in decreasing some of the symptoms associated with angina. While the mechanism of action is not known, lysine in conjunction with vitamin C seems to have some effect.

I bought this for my cats per recommended from holistic vet for eye gunk. It seems to be working without having to take all of them to the vet. I had to give a tad more then the actual cat dosage for it to work. It takes about 4 weeks of every day in their food to work.

The capsule form of this supplement is affordable and convenient, however, I found I prefer mixing powdered supplements into food or beverages for me and my pets. It allows me to control dosages more easily. The 550g package is distributed by Bulk Supplements dot com. There is no indication of the source of origin or manufacturer on the packaging. There are 735 servings per container, the contents are best before Oct 9, 2017, about 10 and a half months from now. I take this twice a day, so I will be using it a little past the best by date. (367 days at 2x a day) There are no other ingredients, the product is free of sugar, soy, dairy, yeast, gluten, or additives. This is important to me, as I need to avoid these additives due to allergies. The product is easy to measure, and dissolves easily in room temperature water. I recommend this product and I will purchase it again.

I have used L-Lysine HCL for a long time now, and since starting to buy Bulk Supplements brand, I opt for the one kilo (2.2 lbs.) size. I have asked, and received, information, including the actual chemical/nutritional tested breakdowns, from Bulk Supplements in the past when I had questions about certain products. I have been satisfied with their responses. However, with this product, I have noticed that the consistency of the products varies widely. Sometimes, it has been an easy-to-use fine powder, but the last order I received was granular, and the package I opened today was a fine powder mixed with hard clumps, that I have to squeeze with my hands to attempt to break apart. While I don't doubt the product is what it says it is, I believe the consistency issue is one that needs attention. Regardless of where Bulk Supplements obtains the materials, and the condition in which the material arrives, the product should have a consistent texture that I can depend on.

I purchased this to help several stray cats that come to my house. There are several mixed reviews as to whether or not L-Lysine works for cats and as for my opinion, well lets just say "the jury is still out". This is my first purchase of L-Lysine in powder form but I know without a doupt it deffinetly works in the pill form for helping with cold sores. It will reduce there effect and with a normal daily regiment will prevent them from returning. I like the fact that the bag that they use to store the powder in is strong and has a flat base that will firmly stand by itself. This makes scooping the powder out much easier. The bag was easy to tear open and has the strip in the top that allows it to be resealed. I find that the kitchen scale that I bought (from Amazon for $10) is perfect for weighing out the correct amount. I will be buying other Bulk supplements as I find them for other items that I take. There is the inconvenience of having to weigh out the correct amount before it can be used. But for me the difference in price is worth it. The powder is also much easier to mix in wet cat food and they seem to not even notice it being there.

Heaven forbid anyone of them buy a product that isn't made from 100% organic and blessed by New Zealand made vegetarian duck farts. Yes this product comes from China, so by default everything is evil and cruel in the world and toxic and we're going to give ourselves cancer because it's not double certified and and kosher blessed by a rabbi's fart to boot. Wanting to use this product wouldn't have ANYTHING to do with the logic in seeing 10K plus positive reviews stating how these products have helped people (rolls eyes). Now that it's just you and I, I'll continue. I'm here because I was searching for amino acids to buy in bulk without fillers. I wanted something priced fair and pure. After all my searching, Bulk Supplements had the ideal products. The only thing that was left for me to do was scan through all the reviews to see if such products would help me. I have a connective tissue disorder so I made it a point to buy all the aminos that had an effect in regards to tissues of the body. I also bought Glutamine as I read that helped people with their SEVERE bread/wheat/carbohydrate cravings as I have severe bread cravings for that and dairy. But I keep my increases minimal as I don't want to go ahead to much. But I can't flipping believe how much these products have boosted what I can do in the weight room AND not feel like a gassed race horse when I'm done. This stuff is literally the MAGIC powder. And with how its helping me with regular health outside of working out and also keeping me from falling off on binge eating on pizza and ice cream, this stuff is it. I'll always be a consumer of these products. Since I already ordered 3 times from this company (LOL) in the last 6 weeks, I got three free sample products to try that I WOULD NOT NORMALLY BUY! Yes, what a scam bulk supplements is running (rolls eyes). As of now there are two other products I plan on ordering from them, the Melatonin and the BCAA 3-1-2 product. Again, I'm only doing this because of how much positive gains I'm seeing in my health and workout. Another bonus was I could never eat enough meat, I was always hungry for tuna, turkey, beef, I could never get enough and my grocery bill was always high. Now I can eat a normal serving of meat and I feel like I don't need anymore thanks to taking the Acetylcarnitine and the Creatine, components that are found in muscle tissue. How I take my supplements is as follows- I take one serving size amount of each one in the morning. Then in the evening I take one serving size of only the msm, ascorbic acid, acetyl carnitine, Arginine, L-Glutamine, D-Ribose, potassium citrate. I take this because of budget, I want what I have to last longer, but these products are most important in keeping my cravings at bay so I take them once more at night. You can take some of these 3 times a day it says, but I only do them all once, and what I just listed twice. If I was rich and could afford $300 in supplements every 2-3 months I'd take them 3 times day. But since I'm not I make them last :) In summary, what I take is what I feel my body needs. And I am 100% happy with the effects I have experienced. And as for odors like some people described when they open their packages, well.........Some of these are chemicals, aren't they? MSM will smell like a sulphur like smell, correct? Unless you want added scents to mask things (which I don't) I honestly have not had a problem with that. And for the foil cosing bag, what I did was go to Walmart and buy a package of the large sized mason jars and I use those to hold my amino's in. I can't see knocking off a star because of the foil bag seal. Just pour it in a wide mouth mason jar and get a measure spoon to dish it out. I ran out of a lysine powder labeled for cats. When I went to re-order, it was out of stock but thankfully this powder also came up in my search for lysine powder on Amazon. Some cats carry the herpes virus just like some people. (But don't worry, it is not transmittable between humans and cats and vice-versa.) Daily lysine keeps my cold sores away and for cats, it keeps their symptoms in check as well. My vet told me to give cats with an active infection 500 milligrams twice a day and then 500 once a day for maintenance. This powder mixes into the cat food so much better than the other stuff which was much more coarse. This does not taste as bitter either. My cats were getting wise to me hiding the other stuff in their food but they do not notice this and this will be much more cost-effective. When I run out of the lysine pills that I take, I may just start to put this in my food or drink like I do with calcium/magnesium powders. I am liking this bulk concept and I am looking forward to trying other products from BulkSupplements.

I actually purchased this to give to our cats -- while they visit the vet rarely, a few times a year at least one of our cats is coming down with something, either respiratory or ocular infections. It wasn't until our littlest went to a new vet that they explained that this is due to a condition that causes the immune systems of infected cats to tank when stressed, who suggested that putting this stuff in their food would help. I don't want to say 110% that this stuff works -- we've been giving it to our cats for maybe 2 months now, which isn't really long enough to determine if the infrequent infections they get are more infrequent. But I *will* say that this stuff is head and shoulders above in quality over the stuff the vet gave us. It's very fine, dissolves instantly into the wet food that we give them, and it must not taste bad because I've caught them licking the spoon I use to measure it. Plus, it's MUCH cheaper than the stuff at the vet, where a tiny jar (100g?) was almost $30. This was absolutely a no brainer.
