My wife says the tea should go into the bottom with the strainer keeping it down and not the holding cup as I think it should?

Well you can use it either way. If u don't want to soak your tea leaves too long in the water u can put them on top of the strainer.----------------------------------------------------------------------EDITED: Our newly improved tumbler now comes with a infuser as well. So you could brew and drink your tea however you like (instructions in demographic picture above)

Yes, you can put your cut-up fruits under the tea strainer, the strainer will click into place so you can continue to infuse the fruits while you drink. Hope this answers your question :)

Is there a guarantee on the bottle? The bamboo has separated from the stainless steel making it difficult to unscrew the top.
