The power rating of the adapter is 12V DC 3A. The drive can not be powered by USB alone. It should offer enough power to charge external drives while plugged into a 120v outlet with the included DC adapter.

Can i hook up 2 different windows machines and can they both (for back up) accessed? as in running 2 different backups at different times

+derkalakader. This unit plugs into a USB port on your computer. The two ports on the front of the unit gives you back that port you used, plus one extra. Very handy on a laptop that only has one or two to start with.But to use it on two different computers, you need to do it on the network or just unplug it from one and plug it into the other. Or others. 4TB is a lot of room. I have 4 different laptops backed up on one 500 GIG. drive. But then I have another one that is used for Karaoke, and it uses a 500Gig. drive for back up all by itself. So it depends on what you are backing up.

Can this be used for hd or 4k streaming as a nas when connected to a good router like asus 87u or 5300? has anybody tried playing 4k movies off it?

The read speeds on this drive are about 170MB/s The *WRITE* speeds are so painfully slow at 25MB/s If you were to attempt to fill the 8TiB version of this drive it may take you in excess of 80 hours. This drive is designed for a "Write one; Read many" workload. As long as your host device can have good networked speeds of 50Mb/s (50 Mega BITS) per stream you should be more then fine. The biggest impact on performance is if you need to encode/re-encode the video files. If you're simply streaming the raw video files you'll be fine.
