SmellGood Purest Ivory Unrefined African RAW Real Shea Butter 5lbs

Updated Review 04/07/2023 Purchased 29 times. (According to Amazon) Current Review Lately, the shea butter has been very grainy once whipped. That doesn't mean it's bad, but I have to do more work to make my products. I have to melt the butter (Double Broiler Method), place it in the refrigerator to cool and harden, then whip it. I would really like to understand what is causing the grainy texture and would love for Smell Good to make it right. I still prefer their brand over others, but this process is inconvenient and slows down my processing time which is bad for my business. Previous Review This product is absolutely Amazing!!! It is indeed 100 % Top Grade Raw Unrefined Shea Butter. I've used other brands in the past and this one is Number 1 on my list. I started purchasing this Shea Butter 2 years ago. I needed an all-natural Shea Butter to use for my Hair and Skin product line. I was very pleased with the fast shipping of my order and even more pleased with the quality of the product. The Shea Butter is soft and easy to work with. It blends well with other essential oils I use. My products have a nice, even, creamy texture that I just couldn't obtain using other brands of Raw Shea. Other brands required me to use mass amounts of essential oils to try to obtain the texture I get with this Shea and it never really hit the mark. With this Shea, I use very minimal amounts of essential oils to obtain the creamy texture I desire for my products. This Shea is very easy to apply to your hair and skin. Your hair isn’t weighed down; but instead, full of body and life. The natural smell of Shea butter can be a bit offensive for some, though the aroma vanishes once it has been applied to your skin within minutes. You can also try using all natural oils such as Peppermint, Lemon, Etc. to hold it at bay. The folks at Smell Good are also very professional. I contacted them once because my package took longer than usual to arrive. Within 1 business day, Smell Good resolved the matter by contacting my local post office and obtaining the information I needed to pick up my package. Another time I noticed a gritty texture and thought Smell Good had sent me a bad batch of Shea. I was upset because I had to refund one of my customers because they claimed they found salt in the product. I immediately contacted Smell Good and complained. While I awaited a response, I researched and found hundreds of blogs on this issue. I found that in warmer climates or during periods of high temperatures the product may become grainy. Smell Good replied with the same information and eased my mind. In my profession it is very important to have a quality product but it is equally important to do business with a professional company. I appreciate Smell Good for providing both.

I ordered this Shea Butter 6 months ago because I am allergic to EVERYTHING!! I started making my own oils/lotions/shampoos as a result and started ordering from a different company. I was very disappointed with the other company's level of service - often times it took two weeks to get my order! Also, the last order I placed was supposed to be Ivory Shea Butter and they sent me the standard yellow Shea Butter that stinks to high heaven!!! Needless to say I was skeptical when I saw the Shea Butter claims from smellgood. I placed my order and it arrived in about 4 days. Even better than that, when I opened the box it was a beautiful off white color and it was so SOFT!! It had almost no smell - there was a little of that earthy smell that is characteristic of Shea Butter but it was so light, my essential oils blended right in. Because of that I'm actually saving money - everyone knows how expensive essential oils are and I don't have to use as much with Shea Butter from smellgood. Since I started using it my skin is silky smooth (I've had no allergic reactions whatsoever!!) My stretch marks have become significantly lighter and you can barely see them. I also use it for my daughters and I've noticed the scar on my oldest daughter's leg is barely visible and her acne scars are all gone. We all have healthy, glowing skin - even my husband!!! It whips up so light and fluffly and mixes great with aloe vera gel, carrier oils, and any essential oils you can think of. I can't say enough good things about this product!! If you have problem skin and are looking for a good company with a great product to order from, smellgood is the place to go. I'm almost out of Shea Butter and I just placed another 10 lb order - I'm so pleased with them I also placed an order for 10 lbs of black soap too!!! Ok, enough of my ranting, try it for yourself and you'll see!!

I bought 3lbs for $13! My friends said it felt more than 3lbs but I wont be sure. It was pretty heavy and the ups tracking said it was 3.2LBSThe shea was smooth and play-doh like; it made me want to play with it and mold it into something. However the packaging is not ideal in my opinion. It came in a thick, clear plastic bag with a card on it in CAPS basically said "know how to use shea and strain it yourself". This bag was in a "thank you" bag you get from a Chinese food restaurant. and this was placed inside of a cardboard box. The shea itself was in three or four large chunk pieces and then filled with smaller bits and crumbles :/ this made it difficult to scoop all the shea out and put it in containers. But I tried to get most of it our the bag then I put it in containers and popped it in the microwave to soften it more to stir it. Now the bag had tons of shea butter stuck to the bag :/ what a waste! but I decided to shower then turn the bag inside-out and rub the bag on my body (lol). and was able to fully condition and moisturize my self from head to toe with just the bag The shea itself seems to be pure shea butter. My boyfriend and brother said it smelled kind of like peanut butter. I think it has a nutty smell with a slightly smoky scent to it which is great because it should (shea nuts are roasted). It is very soft and pliable and the ivory shea is a creamy color kind of like ivory and cream colors combined. My shea butter pretty much looks like the one in the image but a little more cream-colored I found that I didn't have to strain the shea butter because it looks like it was free of debris. Once I melted it I mixed organic coconut oil and almond oil in it because I use this on my body (especially stretched marked areas) and on my hair (great for retaining moisture) I used yellow shea butter my roommate got from the same seller on my braid out with flexi-rodded ends and my hair was so smooth, moisturized and soft. Overall I'm happy with this shea butter because oiling my hair did not feel efficient for me and the shea I feel like it really retains the moisture. I have dry skin (despite the fact I am a teen) and I put this all over my face after showering, right before bed and my face feels so soft and supple. My skin has been dry and I know shea will nurse it back to being supple. I highly recommend this shea butter! It's a great price for the amount you get and the only cons are the packaging issues which really aren't that big of a deal. And the shipping time it took is also a con (nearly 2weeks from ATL to SoCal area outside of LA its only a 4 day drive people). I plan to whip this shea butter with my Taliah Waajid hair and body oil and turmeric powder (to lighten stretch marks)

This is my first time buying shea butter so I have nothing to compare it to, but the quality appears to be great. I tested it right out the bag and it's smooth and melts easily when rubbed into the skin. The scent is mild, can't really place it...earthy maybe? It's not unpleasant. The color is an off white/light grey. I've come across no pieces of dirt, shells, twigs, etc. as of yet. I even broke it into chunks and so far nada. I'm really happy I don't have to filter it because I read that you can lose some of the beneficial properties through the heating and refining process. I can already tell my skin and cracked heels are going to love this stuff. Haven't tried it on my hair yet (transitioning 4a) but I have some recipes lined up to try ASAP. My only gripe is that it weighed about one oz under 3 lbs. Otherwise I would have given it a 5*. A tad worried that this is the standard for this company (I saw a couple reviews complaining of being shorted as well). Hopefully these instances are the exceptions and not the rule as that would be extremely discouraging. I don't think I could support a company that would follow such a business model. On another note, I would be careful buying during the warmer months because they do ship it in plastic bags secured by a plastic tape band...not the most secure method with a product that changes viscosity according to temperature.

it's good quality however the packaging is bad! they came in a nylon bag, when i opened the package it was torn and already had leaked since was melted from the heat,,, maybe it should be in a proper package to avoid such thing.
