Although Thomas Aquinas's influence over philosophy endures to this day, the medieval genius did not consider himself a philosopher, but a Scripture scholar. The Aquinas Institute's hardcover Latin-English editions of Aquinas's commentaries on the Letters of St. Paul make many of these commentaries available in English for the first time. The bilingual format makes the work of this intellectual giant accessible to a broader audience than ever before in history. Aquinas's commentaries on the Pauline letters is a great gift for pastors, seminarians, or anyone who seeks a deeper intellectual reflection on Scripture. Review: One of the most incredible sets of commentaries I have ever seen. - This text is really printed with care by someone who has common sense. First of all the scripture in this commentary uses three texts side by side . It has the Douay Rheims translation in English ,the Greek New Testament ,and the Latin Vulgate. Printing this way makes it simple to read Aquinas' commentary without flipping back and forth between a myriad of translations and that is usually what I end up doing with most modern commentaries. I have likewise read a lot of modern commentaries on Sacred Scripture and have seen many wise and good things in them but I have not seen such wise and learned comments on the Bible as Thomas Aquinas shares with us in these books. What he is able to share with us makes the Bible come alive and we are able to see clearly what was once as St. Paul had said," in a glass darkly"."The only persons that I have read that are like him are St. Chrysostomos, St. Jerome, and St. Augustine . Now with Thomas Aquinas' commentaries I am able to contemplate God in a way I was not able to before. Review: A rare Masterpiece - Much of this has been out of print in English since the 50's so I treasure this set. While many are claiming the death of print I am so pleased to see people still dedicated to make great books. There is no greater mind that has done Scripture commentary than St. Thomas Aquinas. If it had been in English only I would have been very happy, but to have the original words of Aquinas in Latin as well make it priceless to me. St. Peter wrote of Paul's epistles 2Peter 3:16 "As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are certain things hard to be understood, which the unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, to their own destruction" Thankfully, Aquinas is masterful and sure guide. Martin Luther tried to have a book burning of Aquinas but could not find anyone willing to part with a single copy.

Fantastic Set!
As everyone has already said, these volumes are beautifully done! The text, the binding, and the contents are all impeccable. The binding is what I would call a leatherette because it has a textured leather appearance. The cover and spine are decorated and titled in gold gilt. The text block is sewn in signatures, and is how books USED TO BE done. They should hopefully have a very long shelf life.

well done!
This is one of the best presentations of St. Thomas Aquinas' commentaries. The book is so beautifully bound and the pages feel so substantial. I've had a lot of complements on these volumes.

Excellent Commentary by one of the Greatest Saints
If you are to have one Catholic commentary on St Paul, this is it. Written by the Angelic Doctor, himself, St Thomas Aquinas shows the Catholic nature of St Paul's writings.

What a treasure trove of biblical knowledge!
I have purchased both the Pauline commentaries and the the Gospels (Matthew and John) and I can say that I am thoroughly impressed by this Aquinas series. I am a graduate student working on my masters degree in Theology and I am discerning and hoping to be called for the permanent Diaconate. Having these biblical commentaries has helped me beyond measure in my Theology coursework. You do not get this level of detail in electronic libraries. The commentary of St. Thomas Aquinas is timeless and still very relevant today. He often quotes other Doctors of the Church, such as St. Augustine, St. John Chrysotom, and many others. You get the scripture in Latin, Greek, and English. The commentary is in Latin and English. St. Aquinas draws out the typology we see foretold in the Old Testament, and manifest in the New Testament. The binding and quality of these books are sure to be part of a treasured sacred library for generations to come. I would highly recommend this series for students, catechists, deacons, priests, and professors. This is a wise investment into such a treasure trove of sacred knowledge!

Breathtaking Content and Print / Binding.
This is an excellent product. The Angelic Doctor of the Church Saint Thomas Aquinas has written thousands of pages of pure inspired Catholic doctrine and teachings in his time. This commentary on the Letters of St Paul is pure gold. If you ever wanted clarity on what the Spirit was trying to convey to us through the hand of St Paul, look no further than this set! The amount of commentary given on each lecture is amazing. The books themselves are easy to hold or lay flat on a table / desk. The print is easy to read. What I like most is that the commentaries are complete in Latin and English, side - by - side. For Latin scholars, you can easily reference the vulgate. The books themselves are beautiful and they look marvelous displayed on any bookshelf.
