definitely wool, smells a bit sheep-y in use, but works well
This is just as thick as it was supposed to be, and is a great quality wool pressing mat. It does the job. Being a natural product, it does have a slight odor when hit with heat and steam-- as described by the seller. The odor isn't strong or too unpleasant, and it does not seem to transfer to anything I am ironing. Wool is a great choice for this kind of mat-- it is stable under high heat, holds heat and stem to get a good crisp press. I use it with a tailors clapper for great results. The package also included a neon green silicone iron rest. It's a nice idea, but not helpful for me. My iron turns off when left horizontal (in the "use" position) for more than a minute. If I want to keep it on, I have to set it up vertically on its base (and even then, it turns off after a few minutes). To use this iron rest, I'd need an iron without all the safety features... I suppose someone has one, and would appreciate this. It's not a selling feature for me, and I'm still figuring out what to use it for. Perhaps a kitchen hot pad, haha!

Nice compact pad for use with small iron.
This is my first time using one of these pads. It is wool and I love the wooly odor when using it. Small enough to use by my sewing machine but if you are using steam make sure to put a towel bigger than the pad under it to protect your wooden cabinet from the steam & heat. I also learned that the wool pad is "not" like my Teflon coated ironing board. Use this to press, don't move your iron back and forth because it roughs up the wool a bit. All in all, a great tool for quilting, pressing bias tape, pressing small seams open or applying patches. Saves a lot of back-n-forth between the sewing machine and ironing board!

Wool pressing mat
I love this pressing mat! It is a good thickness and size. It just fits my ironing board and the seams lay flat and crisp. I highly recommend this mat.

Love this mat
Great quailty. Made nicely. Has a little smell to it, but its fine and does not transfer to whatever is being ironed. Very thick and sturdy. Makes life easier when you cannot pull out the ironing board for small projects. I like the iron holder, does melt and kinda grips the iron to prevent it from sliding or being easily knocked down. Very happy with purchase.

Handy for small spaces
I keep this wool pressing mat next to my sewing machine to press seems as I am sewing. It is a very nice and small, handy size. It is also small enough to fit in my travel machine bag to go to quilt guild, meetings, or quilt retreats. I didn’t have any use for the green silicone iron mat, as an iron that big wouldn’t be useful on the small pressing mat. The iron shown in the picture is a small travel iron.

Exactly as described, and my dog is grateful!
Wanted to be able to iron quickly when sewing, etc, and it’s difficult to set up my ironing board because first I have to wriggle it out of a tight closet, and then I must spend 20 minutes reassuring my rescue dog, who is apparently in mortal fear of ironing boards (I hate to think what might have happened to her in a prior life). This wool pressing mat works very well to decrease ironing time by reflecting heat to the underside of the fabric, so that wrinkles disappear almost immediately. No odd odor. Sturdy, and although small, it is an adequate size to use for ironing before sewing, as well as for collars and other small clothing items that occasionally need touch up after coming out of dryer that I would otherwise be spritzing with water and “finger pressing”and then have to hang to dry. Good value for the money.

Great starter mat
I am brand new to quilting and wanted a tiny mat for ironing the little pieces. This mat is fairly small and not a good choice if you are working with square bigger than the dimensions. I am making a log cabin pattern so this mat fits the smaller pieces well. I love that it came with a silicone mat to set your iron on. This is much easier than walking to the ironing board or trying to fit an ironing board in my sewing space.
