Shaarawi Mastic Chewing Gum, 100-Count Pouches (Pack of 6)

My best friend used to bring me Mastic gum back from his yearly trips to Lebanon to visit family. It's somewhat of an acquired taste but I absolutely love it. It tastes somewhere between pine and licorice. This particular brand looses its flavor pretty quickly, but I still chew about six pieces a day and love it.

I read on a Kindle book titled "Why Stomach Acid is Good for You" by Jonathan Wright that -among other things- Mastic gum is beneficial to people who suffer from GERD, acid indigestion and other digestive problems, so I searched on Amazon.com and came across this product which I promptly ordered. However, this is not at all the product that I was looking for: the description indicates that this is Mastic chewing gum but when I received the order, the label in the back of the box containing the gum indicates that it is "Mastic FLAVOURED Gum". It is not the flavor I am after! It would be like buying vitamin C flavored pills. The description for this item on the Amazon site reads: "Shaarawi Mastic Chewing Gum - product of Lebanon" this is misleading. There's a disclaimer telling the customer to read warnings and labels but there's only one picture of the box and it is mostly in Arabic. ***If you are looking for Mastic gum for digestive purposes this is not the product for you.*** Unfortunately by the time I read the box I had already opened a couple of packets, too late to return!

Having traveled all over the world popping a piece of this gum in my mouth takes me right to the Middle East.. It's an acquired taste.. Not too sweet so if fruity sugar flavored cavity creators is your thing this might not be for you but when you grow up and wanna chew real adult gum this just might be it.. Take your taste buds on a magic carpet ride

I was buying Mastic supplements for my stomach and came across this gum; it said it was a product of Lebanon so I was intrigued but when the gum arrived, the box says it's from Jordan. Also, it doesn't actually say it's got real mastic in it - the words natural identical flavor (mastic)does not convince me it actually has mastic in it... plus, the glucose and stuff has me suspicious that it's not really healthful...but the taste is good enough to chew, different, interesting and I will chew it daily to see if it helps me...still, I'm very disappointed that it's not from Lebanon. I love Lebanon.

I bought this to hopefully help with acid reflux (chewing gum = more saliva, supposed to help neutralize excess acid + real mastic gum is supposed to be helpful with getting rid of some of the "bad" bacteria). I'm not really sure if there are any health benefits yet, but it does taste different+ good. Somewhat like the scent of pine trees, but muted/not strong. The ingredients in order are: Gum Base, glucose, Sugar, corn starch, natural identical flavor (mastic), glazing agent (carnauba wax), permitted color (e171). So I'm not sure how much natural mastic is in there, but it's probably more than regular gum ;)

The boxes of gum that were delivered were not mastic gum. They're just sugary soft gum and do not have the mastic flavor. I'm very disappointed. Too bad I bought 4 boxes.
