Sturdy, does the job, and looks great!
I really debated between this product and the Minuteman International Cast Iron Clean-Out Door. The two products are similar. This has a great build quality as I'm sure the other one does too, however this product uses a simple latch design to hold it shut. It works very well. The door seals flush with the rest of the housing and the lip that goes around the door helps keep any debris out. While the door does not seal air tight (it seems that none do) it seals well enough to keep almost everything else out. This replaced a steal sheet metal clean out door and looks and seals MUCH better. The entire job took me less than ten minutes to complete. I know you're probably debating between the Minuteman International Cast Iron Clean-Out Door and this one. Just get this one, you won't be sorry. It's cheaper and it doesn't have a screw that will rust later. Sure, that little fire place design is cute, but that screw is just going to give you trouble later. I paired this with Rutland 500-Degree RTV High Heat Silicone and it created a great seal. Since this product doesn't have many reviews, I'll update my review if the product status changes.

Nice quality.
Bought one tp replace the 40 year old clean out door for the outside chimney to my wood stove. Easy to install and it's very solid. Happy with the purchase.

Great product priced nicely.
Solid thick heavy iron, fit well, well protected with good thick well sticking paint, price4d nicely & I have no doubt it will last a very, very long time. Very satisfied with it.

Just as described!
Door arrived the next day along with the recommended tube of black mortar. Just as described, nothing fancy but nice and sturdy. Had to pull out the frame from the old cleanout door that had broken off some time ago (that was way easier than I have thought). Then it took about 30 minutes to chip out some old mortar and a corner of a brick to fit the frame into the opening. I pulled the top hinge pin about half-way out and slid the door off the frame. Then I applied the mortar to the back face of the frame and the inside face of the chimney and set the frame in pace. I then worked the mortar into all the open areas between the door frame and the bricks. Be careful because the black mortar will get everywhere, and you really canโt clean it up. I made a mess and will have to get some paint to match my grey bricks to clean it up. I let the frame set in the opening overnight while the mortar set. The next morning, I gave the frame a little tug and it was solid. So, I just re-installed the door on the hinges and closed it up. Now this door doesn't seal up tight and the hinge is just kind of held in place by gravity, but I can't see any rodents being able to get past the quarter inch gap the door can be pulled to. So overall for 45 minutes and less than $50 my fireplace ash vault is once again secure from the outside. I would absolutely buy again.

Does What I Needed It To
The unit comes fairly well packed, but there were some rub marks around the hinges and latch because the door sits in the frame and is free to move a little during shipping. Not a huge deal. There has been much discussion about the dimensions so I hope the pictures will be helpful. I used this door to close off an old oil burner round pipe flue that was cemented into a square opening in the concrete foundation wall of the basement. The opening was slightly smaller than the new door flange dimensions so I needed to chip away the concrete on two sides of the opening to get it to fit, which I did with a cold chisel and hand sledge. Since the flue/chimney was not going to be used for a furnace or the fireplace above (converted to ventless gas), this door was simply to maintain an inspection point should anyone need to do so. The latch does not actually latch, but rests on itself due to its weight so it is easy to lift and open, but not secure if that's what you need. I used a patching compound around the interior and exterior to hold it in place and prevent drafts. You can use the screw holes in the flange to secure it if you want. Since it was not being used, I did not worry about using fire rated sealants. I would recommend this unit as it was less costly than some others out there, it's sturdy, and easy to install if you have the right size opening.

Good choice.
This is a very good choice. The door is very heavy and will last for many years. It was very easy to install.

Solid metal, easy to install.
This isn't a particularly effusive review, because there's not a lot to say. My original clean out door was just short of ancient, rusted, and needed to be retired. Enter... this one. It's exactly as expected, and installed easily with an experienced brick worker.
