These Little Butter Ribbons Changed My Life
I don't use much butter because it's what, 100% FAT? But I LOVE BUTTER. This little gadget lets you control the amount of butter where you can still get a taste without the awkwardness of trying to cut little bitty pieces off the stick. I use the type of butter that is in the longer, skinny sticks, so had no problem loading the gadget. First try with cold butter, it was very difficult to turn and I thought I had made a mistake. Next day, it wasn't as hard....not sure why, but maybe it just needed to "settle in" or something. The third day, I ran hot water over the outside of the square portion the butter is in just to un-stick the butter from the walls of the dispenser. It worked just great, even with the butter being cold. You do have to "back off" with the screw part to keep more butter from oozing out the opening. Easy. Then one day, I let the butter sit out an hour or so before dinner and it still worked wonderfully. Even easier. The muffin or bread or whatever you are having does NOT have to be warm. Just be ready to detach the ribbon of butter with your table knife, fork, or even your finger. The butter will break away from the dispenser if you just pinch & pull the ribbon with your fingers. Your fingers are only on the piece you took out, so the butter inside is still clean. To wash it after running out of butter, I simply used HOT water out of the tap with liquid dish soap. The butter came right off with the hot water and soap. It's dishwasher safe, so if I can get it clean in the sink, your dishwasher can do as good or better at cleaning the gadget. Crazy Russian Hacker's Butter Gadgets Put to the Test on YouTube [...] is how I learned there was such a thing. He has the red top kind, but I found too many bad reviews on that one. This all-white one is a dream.

I use it every day. One of my favorite utensils, but could use better engineering.
I use this daily for toast and eggs, with cold butter right from the fridge. Pros: * Cold butter is fresher. Fresher tastes better. Cold butter doesn't spread easily.. this makes it easy. * Cold butter on rolls or bread + hot soup = fantastic. No shredded bread when spreading butter this way. * Don't dirty a knife - If the butter is *just* cold enough, it comes out in a flat, consistent ribbon instead of a curly ribbon. You can handle that butter strip with your bare hands for a few seconds.. I usually wait for my toast to pop, then churn out a couple strips and place them on the hot toast. Toast melts butter, butter soaks in a bit, and it's awesome. I also use it on my single-egg frying pans.. I churn out a little piece and throw it in the pan to melt just before I put the egg in. Best way to make eggs and toast, imo. * Price - not bad. Cons: * If the butter is too cold, the plastic screw-on piece will have too much pressure and pop out when you try to turn it.. very annoying. Seems that lengthening that screw-top lid a bit would have solved the problem engineering-wise, or add some kind of clamping+locking mechanism. I usually just leave it sitting next to the toaster while cooking, and that oddly solves the problem.. there's also a steel butter mill for sale online for $99.. I've considered that alternative, but the commercial was disgusting, and I don't want to give that creepy couple any money. * Too long for many fridges. (I'd just cut the butter down and refill more frequently.. I like it that much)

Needs a stiff rubber squeegee to help scrape the edges of the tube
There are holes on the edge where you insert the butter that get clogged up with butter that will not fit in the square hole because the hole is smaller than the sticks of butter

Junk and not worth it to buy
This is junk compared to the original one that was sold years ago. like the other reviews, the red cap popped off the threads the minute you exert pressure on the screw. it is harder to turn and to fill the butter. seems like the dimension of the tube is smaller as it scraps the butter stick and leaves a glob on the top. this is cheaply made and flimsy. Dont buy

Ummm... WOW!!!! GREAT PRODUCT! It's so great I ordered a second one!
Who ever invented this is a genius! I hate using sticks of butter because they are so hard coming out of the fridge. With the butter mill it sends out a very thin ribbon of butter that's soooooooo much easier to spread. No more leaving butter out to soften or struggling to scrape thin slivers off a rock hard stick of butter. This thing works great! It also acts as a case for your butter, and with the cap on it keeps the air out too. IT ALSO WORKS AMAZINGLY WELL WITH BLOCKS OF CREAM CHEESE!!!! USER TIP: On the West Coast of the USA our butter sticks are shorter and fatter than the rest of the world, so you will have to cut the side off of your butter to make it fit in the mill. But this is no big deal, its easy to do, and just place the portion you cuff off back inside the mill so it won't be wasted at all. USER TIP: cranking down the handle creates a little pressure inside the case that may cause it to send a little extra butter out after you stop twisting it. It's no big deal, but to stop the flow of butter precisely at a specific amount, just turn the crank a very small amount in the opposite direction as soon as you want it to stop sending out butter. This relieves the small amount of pressure on the butter in the chamber and stops the flow of butter exactly when you want it to stop.

Best thing happen to butter
I've been using the Butter Mill for a while now and, honestly, it's been a game-changer in my kitchen. It's one of those tools you didn't know you needed until you have it. Before I had the Butter Mill, spreading cold, hard butter on bread was always a bit of a struggle. With this tool, that problem is a thing of the past. It grates the butter into thin, easy-to-spread ribbons even when the butter is straight from the fridge. It's so effortless that it almost feels like magic! The Butter Mill is straightforward to use and clean, which adds to its appeal. It's certainly become a must-have in my kitchen. If I had to find a drawback, it would be that you need to make sure you screw the top on securely. If it's not, the butter might not grate properly. In conclusion, the Butter Mill is an excellent tool. It has made the simple act of buttering bread so much easier. It's a must-have for anyone who enjoys butter on their bread, toast, or pastries. Despite the minor issue with the top, I'm still giving it a full five stars for its practicality and efficiency.

Not Ready for Prime Time!
Worked really well for the first stick of butter. Loved it! Disassembled to wash & refill but the twist mechanism stuck tightly in the red cap on the end & wouldn't budge. Nothing worked to dislodge it & so annoying. Great idea product but returned it as defective.
