Rode home without the helmet as it was locked to the bike. I tried for about 20 minutes at home to open it. No luck. I thought with the flimsy hinge it would be easy to cut off, but it took a bit of time with my hacksaw to cut it off, so it at least seems to delay theft well. **Q: How do you set your 3 digit code** A: It comes with instructions but if I remember correctly there is a pin on the side of it that you pull out when you're setting the code **Q: this model does not come with the separate piece for schberth helmets does it? (t shaped chrome piece that fits on the lock.)** A: The product I received is the lock and instructions. There is no separate piece. I like the ability to set your own combination so you never have to worry about a memory lapse. The dials can be a bit of a pain to rotate but that's not a huge problem. The Helmtlok 4101 feels like a temporary while you are out solution while you are commuting, visiting or shopping. This lock is not a permanent solution for long term storage and shouldn't be viewed as such. I don't believe this lock is intended to be left on the bike with the helmet in situations where there is not normal foot traffic and/or security. The materials feel solid enough to provide convenience and a peace of mind but will not hold up to a well equipped determined thief.
