great management framework...
I have used situational leadership for a while and love the framework. It's a great practical guide to coaching and development that you can use in every day work. However, I'm not personally a fan of business parables and this style of conveying information. I'd rather have it in a short text book without the narrative. Dig in with more scenarios instead of mundane dialogue. That said, this is good stuff and worth learning and applying.

If you've never read a leadership book before, get this one.
Read this when I was a college kid and I enjoyed how practical it was. Now that I work in organizational development, I was amazed at how true and how empowering it was seeing it again with years of experience later. Great primer on how to lead others. If you've never read a leadership book before, get this one. It reads fast, it's easy to learn, and easy to implement.

Situational Leadership: Goal Setting, Diagnosing Development Level, and Matching Your L'ship Style to the Person's Needs
If you're a new manager, or perhaps even a seasoned/experienced manager who may need some tips on dealing with a new set of direct reports, then I'd HIGHLY recommend this book and the leadership philosophy it espouses. Blanchard (of course) is one of the creators of the "Situational Leadership" model, which speaks directly toward evaluating a person's competence+commitment (their "Development Level") on performing a specific task, and then outlines the leadership style the leader should take in managing the person. The key to using Blanchard's SL-II (pronounced es-el-two) model is to remember that an individual's development level is always goal or task specific. The person being managed could be an enthusiastic beginner, a disillusioned learner, a hesitant worker, or an accomplished performer, and the SL-II model will immediately give the manager the correct leadership style to use. The book itself is a quick read, something that will probably take the reader no longer than an hour or so to digest.

Helpful I its context
Great book for leadership styles. In my opinion much of this is executed in an organic sense than a formal sense as the book suggests. What bothered me about the book was it gives off the air of "if you just follow these steps you will be a successful leader". There is much more that goes into being a successful leader than what is provided in this book
