Makita DMP181Z 18V Li-ion LXT Inflator – Batteries and Charger Not Included

Have to say, bit sceptical but needed a pump as my 12v cigar lighter pump was giving up the ghost and the lead was too short to reach the rear wheels on my motorhome anyway. This was a lot bigger in the flesh than looks on photo, VERY POWERFUL though! Did my car, works van and motorhome in a few minutes. Brill

So far so good. I've used on the wheelbarrow tyre and topped up air on my wife's car. It was quick and efficient. Note you loose a bit of air as you unscrew the connector. So be prepared and unscrew the connector rapidly.

Bought this for trackdays in my car just received it today so I’ve tested it. As usual with makita it feels very robust and a quality item. The noise from it wasn’t so loud although you wouldn’t use it in the middle of the night with the neighbours When I tested it I set it at 25psi and it takes it to 27.5psi before automatically stopping which is ok as I just let 2.5psi out then it’s right. The pressure gauge on this was coming up 0.5psi out which ain’t bad either. The cheaper model you can use it for 5mins then you have to rest it for 5mins whereas this model you can use for 10mins and rest it for 5mins which for me is much better. The air connection that is chained on to it I have to say is next to USELESS. you need to buy a connector that just clips on plus you don’t lose any air taking the hose off the wheel. Also it doesn’t seem to use much battery up which was a surprise. I may update this after my first trackday which is soon. Also don’t forget to register this on line within 30 days of buying it to get your 3 year warranty that’s always worth having. UPDATE on further testing this I’ve found rather than waiting for it to stop itself which gives you 2.5lb over just stop it yourself at whatever you need then it’s bang on. Or if you prefer to keep the button down with something and do it that way just set the pressure 2.5lb less than you want. I put 25psi in my tyres for my track car and just set it at 22.5 and it’s right. This is a hundred times better than them 12v things. If you have the battery and charger then go for it. Even if you don’t have the battery and charger I would recommend it as you only need a low ah battery

This was delivered a day late. The sturdy box was a bit battered, probably as a result of it being a heavy item and being delivered from Europe to the UK. The user guide also took some minor damage. The size of the user guide is massive considering it's only 10 pages per language but is in 33 languages. That's a candidate for streamlining if ever I saw one. In use the inflator is quite noisy but quickly gets on with the task at hand. The controls are easy to see and adjust. I would have preferred a separate button to change the inflation mode instead of having to hold the mode button for 3 seconds each time you want to change it. A quick press of it changes the scale from PSI to BAR to KPA, so maybe that change sequence should have been a 3 second button press instead, leaving the inflation mode as a quick single press. The case is a mixture of TPE and ABS plastic and nicely put together. I can't comment on the battery life yet as I'm using a 5Ah battery and haven't used it long enough to drain it. The adaptors are nicely stowed and easy to remove, although I can see them becoming looser over time and easily lost. I think it would have been better to store them vertically, inside the case, or have a cover over their current place at least. The one complaint I do have is the need to continually hold the trigger during use. I'm not alone in this criticism and I fail to understand the reason for it when Makita provide trigger locks on saws and such like. It's even more puzzling with the auto switch-off feature it has. Overall I am happy to recommend this inflator, whether your need is pressurising items or blowing debris and dust out of tools etc. Hopefully Makita will improve the next generation of this useful tool along the lines of my observations...
