Fiskars scores another win!I am the caretaker for a big old house with an old pre-EPA woodstove, we burn about 6 cords of wood a year for heat. I am already a big fan of Fiskars, having six or seven of their outdoor tools in my collection.To save money, I scrounge all of the wood needed for heat, meaing I go on Craigslist, find trees people want removed, drop them if needed, cut them into rounds and haul them home on a trailer.I'm not getting any younger, and my back seems to take the brunt of the strain from all that wood cutting, hauling, splitting and stacking. I read about the hookaroon on my favorite firewood forum (firewood hoarders) and decided to give it a try.I've gotten a few good sessions of use in, and the XA22 is a keeper!My most recent firewood scrounge is a huge maple tree, with most of the rounds being larger than 20" diameter. To move them before meant I had to crouch down and push, but now with the XA22 I can just stand and pull, easily steering the rounds as needed, or flipping them end over end without any strain. This made my splitting session so much easier, I think I really got more wood split with the gas splitter, just becuase I didn't have to crouch and stand over and over getting the rounds to splitter deck. (I use a ramp instead of lifting them)The next night I stacked the splits, this is where the hookaroon really shines! Instead of having to stoop and stand, or work bent over at the waist, I didn't have to bend over much at all. Instead I hooked each split and lifted it with the XA22, using my other hand to grab the spits and stack them.Some of the splits were not easy to sink the hook into, but even those were no big deal as I could easily get the hook under one end of the split and pull it up to vertical, 16-18 inches above the ground is an easy reach with my other hand.Yesterday I was cutting a monster tree trunk up, with the diameter of almost three feet. As I cut each round off of the trunk, I could hook it with the XA22 and roll it out of the way.Each of these rounds was 400 pounds or more, and the XA22 moved them without any problems.I will never cut or move wood again without a hookaroon, in fact I may buy a second one to help move the big rounds around even easier.I'm already a fan of the Fiskars X27 splitting axe, preferring it over an other wood splitting tool as it is easier on my arms and joints than any other hand splitting tool out there. The XA22 uses the same hollow plastic handle as the X27, meaning it is super light, and doesn't transmit the shock of hitting the wood. Some people see this as a downside because it takes a quick flick of the wrist to sink the point into the wood.Since I never used another type of hookaroon, I don't have any comparision to one with a solid wood handle and heavy steel head. Some people prefer all that weight, as they can use gravity to sink the point into the wood. If you prefer more weight for your hookaroon, it is easy to add some plates of steel and a bolt through the hole in the head of the hook.Fiskars sells the XA22 with plastic sheath that has a toggle to remove it and a built in carrying/hanging handle on top, very similar to the one their axes and hachets come with.For the price and warrenty I don't think you could do any better.

This is one of the most useful purchases that I have made on Amazon in a long time. I highly recommend this pickaroon. I purchased this Fiskars pickaroon at the same time that I purchased a second, heavier, hardwood handled, pickaroon. When I compared them both right out of the package I was initially concerned about the very light weight of the Fiskars against the 3-4X heavier steel and wood model. I had seen several reviews on (YT) about the light weight Fiskars, mentioning that the lack of overall mass could potentially be an issue with driving the pickaroon into some harder rounds.I assumed that the light weight Fiskars would need to be relegated to my lighter, softer, Digger Pine rounds and splits, and that the other, heavy duty model would be what I would need to use for the extremely heavy, rock hard rounds that I had cut from several, long dried, wind-fall Blue Oaks that have been down on my property for a few years.Boy was I wrong about that.In actual use, the heavier tool tended to bounce right out of the hard wood. Even with a hefty swing and good centered aim, the slightly wider taper on the head had trouble sticking far enough into the Oak round to hold on well. That is after I had taken a file to the point to give it a better bite, or so I thought.I picked up the light weight, almost toy like by comparison, Fiskars and to my surprise, every single oak round that I swung it on stuck like glue. These are seriously stone-like, "seasoned on the stump" dense, hard, dried Blue Oak rounds. Many weighing a good 20-25# and some much more.Due to the geometry of the sharp, square-edged point on the Fiskars tool, it sticks so well with a light to moderate swing that it takes a bit of effort to twist/roll it out of its grip on the end of the round. Picking up a stuck round to place it on the splitter bed, there is no worry about the tool losing its grip on the wood and dropping a heavy chunk of oak on the top of your foot. The steel quality of this, as well as all of my other Fiskars tools, is top notch. The balance for the swing is spot on as well, and the taper of the "fawns-foot" makes the tool easy to hang on to. I am seriously impressed with this tool. The Fiskars is my go-to tool for all of the oak rounds and splits on my homestead now.I initially thought that I would give the light weight Fiskars to my wife to use when she helps me with our storm clearing and firewood gathering work, as I am 18" taller and at least 140# heavier than she is, so she could work the light weight pine with the "little Fiskars", and I could handle the heavy oak wood. I will be buying another Fiskars so she can have her own tool, and we will not have to swipe the "little Fiskars" from each other all day long. It does not hurt that the Fiskars cost me about half as much as the heavier wood handled pickaroon either.The engineers at Fiskars really hit it out of the park with this tool. I have several other Fiskars tools that I have gathered over the years, like my truck axe, hatchet, loppers, pruner, etc... All of these tools have served me well. Being a bit of an "old-timer, traditionalist", I generally prefer a fine, oiled, Hickory handled Axe, hammer, etc... for the feel, and the ability to replace a broken handle if needed. I make an exception when it comes to these Fiskars tools.I have not yet broken any of my synthetic handled Fiskars tools.For leaving tools in the truck box for off-road use and not have to worry about them at all, and the reduced need for maintenance on the synthetic handles of these Fiskars tools, makes them very convenient to keep around. I take good care of my equipment, keeping my hardwood handled tools well oiled and the heads tight. I do not baby my tools. They get used hard and often. When I bought my first Fiskars axe, I thought I would give this "newfangled plastic tool" a try to see how it would hold up, and not have to worry about leaving it in the truck box for an extended period of time. I have not been disappointed.Do yourself a favor and get one of these pickaroons. Your back will soon thank you for it. After many decades of heavy, hard work my back is pretty messed up, and this tool has made a tough job at lot easier to perform.I am very happy with my purchase of this pickaroon, and would whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone that has a need for this type of tool in their wood yard.

This is an awesome and must have tool if you need to move large tree rounds or limbs! Had a huge oak tree taken down, the guy cut up some of the logs into large rounds, many of which were lodged between uncut logs. These were 25-30 inches in diameter, 18 inches long, AND wet oak. Guessing they weighed between 150-200 lbs a piece.I moved about 8 of them manually, with a LOT of time, effort and struggle. I am a 5ft female and pretty strong, but these things wore me out manually pushing, pulling, dragging and flipping. To add to the fun, my property is uneven and the clear path to move them was blocked by another set of uncut huge logs. So, some of them I had to push uphill. I could only move 2 a day before I ran out of energy. Good times. My neighbors seemed entertained with my efforts.The remaining 8 cut rounds were lodged so tightly between other huge uncut logs, I couldn’t budge them.I happened on this tool watching U-Tube videos on how to move these things. I really thought this has to be too good to be true. To my very elated surprise, I was able to EASILY dislodge these huge rounds and move them, even over large limbs underneath them. Using this tool, I could easily flip them on the bark side, roll them, flip them back on flat side and position them into an area where I could dice them up. I dislodged and moved all 8 of the remaining huge rounds in about 45 minutes.I also used this tool to easily drag large (8 in diameter) knurled limbs out of the way. Again, my property is uneven so quite a few had to be drug uphill.Hard to believe what this lightweight tool can do! The pick doesn't get stuck either. Its great to have the right tool to do the job. Highly recommend the Fiskars 28" Hookaroon! It also referred to as a Pickaroon, but same thing.

This was worth it's weight in gold! We are processing a ton of dead ash trees here in Maine due to the emerald ash borer, for firewood and the Hookaroon by Fiskars (or most any pickeroon really) makes pikcing up and rolling rounds so much easier! I can roll a 30" diameter by 16" ash round no problem and get it in position at the splitter EASY!! If I hadn't had this I would have been two days doing what took one day. Saved my back!

I purchased two 28" Hookaroons to move some oak logs. Today, I bucked what might have been another oak tree that fell down with a 50-70 ft dead oak tree. The smaller tree had a diameter of about 16 inches and was near the 31-inch diameter oak tree.I was able to use both hookaroons in each hand to drag the logs up hill about five to ten yards. I also was able to maneuver some larger diameter log rounds away from my cuts with them.This product saved my back and was easier to use than the overpriced LogOX 3-in-1 tool due to it weighing less. I couldn't use these tools on trees that were cut down due to leaning dangerously too close to the house. The hard wood was still green and impossible to hook into. For those logs, I will use the LogOx to carry.My brother helped me move some of the wood intended for firewood for the neighbor closer to the house with these hookaroons. He was impressed with them.4-19-2025One of my two hookaroons suffered a broken tip moving oak log rounds today, after six weekends worth of use. I purchased another.6-22-2025On April the 20th, I submitted a warranty claim with Fiskars for the damaged tip. They sent an email confirmation that my warranty claim had been received. It is now near the end of June and there has been no recourse from the manufacture.

If I were thirty years younger I wouldn’t need a Hookaroon or it’s close cousin the Pickaroon. But I’m not thirty years younger so I try to find easier ways to do things, and that’s were the Hookaroon comes in. I can now pick up wood without having to bend over, thus saving my back.So why the Fiskers Hookaroon ? Well I made my own Hookaroon with an old axe head and wooden handle, it worked reasonably well for the first few times in the woods. That was until I missed the target and whacked the axe handle into a log and split it in two. That kind of soured me on wooden handles, and of course the Fiskers doesn’t have a wooden handle.Another selling point was the positive reviews it has been receiving and the warranty is hard to beat. The Fiskers Hookaroon is lighter than most similar products, and that may or may not be a turn off for some people that are use to heavier products. Speaking only for myself, I had no problem seating the hook into a piece of wood.The hook itself is thinner than traditional hookaroon’s, but once again this didn’t seen to affect its usefulness. The hook angle is sufficient for my needs, I’ve seen others with and without more aggressive hooks, it’s really all very subjective.I will always like the look and feel of a wooden handle on a Hookaroon, along with the feel of a heavier head, but I have to admit the Fiskers Hookaroon really works, so there’s no since carrying around a heavier Hookaroon when you can have something that does the same job and is much lighter.

This is a very handy tool to have when chopping firewood, cutting wood with a chainsaw, or even just scrounging up firewood for a campfire. It not only saves your back from having to reach down all the way to pick the wood up off the ground, but it adds a measure of safety too - since there can be all sorts of nasty critters hiding beneath or clinging onto logs and firewood, from spiders and scorpions to snakes. This will at least put them at arm's length as you use the device to stick into the top or bottom soft spots of a log and pull the wood up from the ground. For the outdoors woodsman, this tool is a must! Fiskars brand is excellent quality, and balances well in the hand. 5-Stars! Highly recommended!

Great for older people in rural areas. It saves your back, and your eyes if your dragging fallen branches out of shrubs that have grown around them. Great in Australia with deadly spiders as you don't have the grab with your hands. So impressed I bought my old dad one for his property. Probably not worth while if you only chop some would for a BBQ say now and then. Great on 5+ acres.

Awesome for firewooding. Super light great hook. Works fantastic on softer woods. Other say not so great for hard woods, but can't verify that. Would recommend.
