Mayo Clinic The Essential Diabetes Book

This is a very valuable book. My wife was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and we wanted a readable yet authoritative overview and reference. This is it.The book is clearly written, and it's very easy to find specific topics in it. It covers all of the basics: What diabetes is, what causes it, what the effects are, how it's treated, and so on. The book is aimed for the non-expert reader, the person who wants to know what's going on and what to do about it. It doesn't talk down or up. An important part of that is the tone. Diabetes is a serious condition that needs to be taken seriously. However, a diagnosis is no reason to panic.Bottom line: This is a great, practical reference book, particularly for the newly diagnosed diabetic. I recommend it most highly.

Talking to your MD is not enough! If you are told you have diabetes - accept the truth, and get this book to really understand this new dimension in your life. It has helped me greatly and even doing everything right it has taken quite a while to really get my diet adjusted and get my blood sugars where they are good for the long term. This book covers everything. The different types of diabetes and an easy science background to understand what causes it, and what levers you can pull to maybe even reduce or eliminate it.Arm yourself with knowledge, and prepare yourself for self-discipline - and your life will be good!

This is the book I wish my doctor had handed me when she diagnosed me with Type 2 diabetes two years ago. It is comprehensive and nicely presented, but after two years, I've picked up most of the info from online research. I still wish I had had it from the beginning of my diabetes journey, as I think I would have taken the disease more seriously than I did initially. No harm done, fortunately, and I'm now on the road to better health overall.

What I like most is that it did not cost $36.65 including shipping, that is the price I paid to Mayo Publishing. After waiting for more than a week for a tracking number I cancelled the order and now I am waiting for a refund. What I don't like is that it is about 4 years old and it covers the full spectrum of Diabetes problems for all ages and genders of humanity and I don't like recipes for 8 servings. But, since I was stupid enough to get diabetes I guess there is a learning curve to fixing it too.

I have been dealing with Type II Diabetes for 10 years now, and struggled every single year with no results. I started this plan on 10/17, and I'm losing weight, making better choices, trying to move, and it all feels natural and not like I'm trying to force my 'round peg' self into a square hole! Highly recommended, get all 3 books: This one, The Mayo Clinic Diabetes Diet, and the Mayo Clinic Diabetes Diet companion journal. Best gifts I ever got from the family!!! The love me, they really love me!! <3

Trustworthy practical advise that doesnt talk down to you like some doctors do. A lifesaver!

So far in my quest for information on Diabetes, this book rates as the most informative, reliable, well organized, well written material on Diabetes. I recently found out I have the disease and use this book to educate myself. I have it on my Kindle which goes everywhere I go - in the car, to a doctor's appointment, etc. I learn a little bit at a time and the way the book is written makes it easy to remember. This book was better than I anticipated. It arrived in perfect condition but the book itself was remarkable. I had the earlier version and this one had so much more! The information in this book is the most complete I've seen. I think it's a great book.

The important thing about managing diabetes is to understand the disease process. The book is an excellent guide to diabetes, has diet recipes, workout regimen and covers every aspect of diabetes care.

This is absolutely the BEST book on diabetes for people who have been recently diagnosed with the disease and is absolutely MUST GET item if you want a fantastic overview of the disease on the do's and don'ts! There are a ton of other books out there, but this one is the best by far!

I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Mayo Clinic's "The Essential Diabetes Book" covers every conceivable aspect of diabetes in a clear, concise, illustrated, and easy-to-understand manner; I found answers to every question I had. I highly recommend it for anyone newly diagnosed with diabetes.

I would give 5 based on illustration and ease of reading. Nicely presented. I gave 3 because it only covers the basics and is outdated.
