Quality product, smart design, solved our needs, and good value. We have a cottage garden without irrigation so we need a watering hose that we can "take" around without dragging it on the ground. Our current gardening hose get snag on rocks, gravels, and plants. We have been searching for a quality retractable hose because we think it would solve our problem and yes it did! The unit is stake into the ground instead of your wall. It swivels so we can go to either side of our garden as we have it mounted near the middle of the garden. The retractable mechanism is very intuitive. The unit is heavy so it anchor itself, doesn't flop around. Installation is pretty simple, just a few parts to assemble. The hose is 66 feet long which is longer than most of the hoses we've purchased (50' is standard). The who thing feels solid. We notice water dripping around the base but we need to just check the connection and install washer or plumber tape. The watering handle is not the best but not bad either. Would I want a better handle? Yes, but I can get the exact one I like. Highly recommend and would buy again.

I've been looking at this hose for forever. I am not sure why I waited so long to get it. I love it. It is such a game changer when it comes to ease of use and convenience with garden hoses. For me it is worth every penny. I saved a little by buying a "used like new" as well. It works perfectly and is very stable, secure and well made. I added a longer leader hose so I could move it farther away from the water tap and that worked perfectly too. Just buy it!

Very easy to install. Haven't used it yet but so far like what I see. My HOA doesn't allow mounting on the wall or bricks so needed something that could free stand. This was the only thing out there I could find. Def like the quick release accessories it comes with and the extra hose attachment. Install was a breeze. Maybe like 10min. Cool part is the bar that uses to twist the pipe in the ground, you can hide it inside the pipe when putting the mount on so you don't lose it. Clever! The universal cover was the only one I found for this and it was WAY BIGGER than it needed to be. Doesn't fit snug so def check the dimensions and all. This cover is almost 3 times too big. BUT will say not mad that it covers the base so during winter/heavy rain it protects the whole thing. Blessing in disguise so I'm keeping the cover.

Gardena definitely knows how to make premium gear and this hose reel is no exception. The build quality is top-notch and the retracting mechanism feels incredibly smooth and solid. It’s the kind of product you look at and immediately think “Yep this is German engineering.” That said, if you’re using the ground spike version be ready for a bit of extra work. In my case I had to use some cement around the base to keep it completely stable. Without it, it had a slight wobble and leaned a little when the hose was fully extended. Once cemented in though, it’s rock solid and looks really sleek in the yard. I also own the wall-mounted version and honestly I think that one’s the better choice if you can mount it. It’s just more secure and feels easier to use day-to-day. Still this freestanding one does the job beautifully once it’s reinforced. Gardena continues to set the standard in quality and even with the little extra effort I’d definitely buy from them again.

After reading a few reviews I was a bit skeptical, but I figured why not give it a shot, and just return it if it didn't meet expectations. Well am I glad that I listened to my gut, this thing is awesome!! Anyone saying otherwise obviously doesn't follow simple instructions, everything literally pops into place.

Wow, so happy with this in my front yard as it keeps things tidy and clean. I use this daily, and it works perfectly; have had it a month. Oh — the twisting bar is housed in the pipe!!!!! Use it! Installed it myself into the ground and it is steadfast and no concrete needed! I appreciate the extra connections! Highly recommend— top German quality.

I have purchased this hose reel last year and thought it was easy to install and works pretty well. The only thing is,it’s not as sturdy in ground as I would like. It wobbles a bit but still stays in ground and in place. Not like it falls apart, it just wobbles a little. So I purchased again to gift for a family and was going to install for them. But when I have received the item, it’s used (pictures included). It’s obviously it’s used by looking at the package and so I returned it and had a replacement. Then I waited again, recieved it, an guess what? Another used item reviewed. It’s obvious it’s used by looking at the item that was still wet near the hose and things inside. So all the returning, waiting, and getting used again. It’s wasting too much time and can’t gift on time now. The price I paid is for a new one and not a used one. If I was to pay for a used one, it’s cheaper than a price for a new item. As for the hose reel, it retracts smoothly but wobbles. Installation is easy as long as your soil isn’t too hard or too soft. It’s not that heavy so that’s helpful.

Attaches easily, allows easy watering, rolling up is OK. Slight downside on installation - the plastic base is not perfectly made, there are NO screw threads or inserts, so impossible to fix the two parts with the screws provided! I had to place threaded inserts myself. Also, make sure that the entire metal spike is in the ground, so make sure that there is nothing underneath.

Quality item, hose retract slowly on its own without need to control it with your hand and get your hand all dirty. Pay a little more its worth it.

I absolutely love my Gardena spike-mounted water hose! 😍 I'm a complete "girlie-girl" and not the type to assemble anything. However, after watching a couple of helpful Youtube videos on how to assemble this spike-mounted water hose, even I had no issues installing it! 😁 PROS -easy to install. One person can install it on their own and it does help to watch a couple of YouTube videos regarding the installation -super easy to reinstall it in any other grass/ground location if want to relocate the hose reel. Unlike a wall-mounted hose reel, this spike-mounted reel won't leave marks in the ground for long if you want to relocate it (whereas a wall mounted hose reel will require patching up the concrete/wood surface where the reel is mounted and possibly painting over as well to hid any holes from the screws) -the retractable hose reel works smoothly! So many other brands of retractable reels cause jams or kinks in the hose that require manually retraction (that's annoying and defeats the purpose of a retractable reel in the first place). Not the case at all with this Gardena model -it's stylish and unique!! They don't sell this model in any stores here in the GTA so nobody else really has it unless they order this reel off of Amazon. I've already had neighbours and contractors complimenting this hose reel! -you can keep the entire hose reel outside during winter (simply empty the hose reel of any water). However, if you wish to keep the hose reel in your garage/basement/storage during the winter time, you can easily lift the main hose reel compartment up from the base metal spike, keep the base metal spike in the ground during the winter and simply store the plastic main hose reel compartment. I find that convenient so that it saves me from having to remove the ground spike in the Fall and reinserting the ground spike in the spring. CONS -a couple of minor cons: I'm not crazy about the spray nozzle that came with the hose reel. It requires twisting the nob to turn the water off and on which I find a bit tedious - attached is a video to demonstrate. So I "upgraded" and bought the Gardena 7-in-1 spray nozzle where you only have to press the nozzle to allow the flow of water (no twisting of the nozzle required!) -I found the plastic metal tap adapters that came with the hose reel to be a bit leaky. So I bought the Gardena universal metal tap adapter and that solved everything! No leaks, super easy to install, and also metal lasts longer than plastic especially over time with large temperature fluctuations here in Toronto between our winter and summer seasons Overall I highly recommend this hose reel! Super happy with it!
