Hmm, not especially. We've found that the best application method is to spray the product onto a microfiber cloth or rag and then wipe onto the blade.

Does the "knife shield" have any grit (abrasive properties)?

The Knife Shield is a plant based product and does not contain abrasives.

What's the difference between the two products

The one in the picture is the one that I bought because it does everything the other product does and is a better lubricant and rust preventer. I don't see why you would need both.

Can this be used for a damascus knife?

Yes. It’s knife oil and can be used for Damascus steel. I use it all the time with my 1095 carbon steel which will rust a lot faster than any steel that claims to be Damascus.
