Can this be used on area rugs?

Hello from Karcher - The detergents for cleaning rugs is very different than other detergents since they are designed to be vacuumed, not pressure washed.

If the pressure washer dilutes the concentrate 20 to 1, why can't the concentrate be added to the washer directly?

Hello from Karcher - as with many detergents, they are packaged as ready to use or are concentrated and must be diluted to be ready to use. To keep you from buying 20 gallons of ready-to-use detergent, the concentrated version is simpler to store but must be diluted with 20 parts water. Then you fill the pressure washer soap tank with the ready to use (diluted) detergent. The water from the pressure washer is the carrier of the detergent which makes the application of the detergent simpler than spraying a bottle of soap on the wall or car to be cleaned. Further dilution by the pressure washer is already calculated into the mix of soap and water.

Do you simply pour this into the soap dispenser of your pressure washer or do you need to dilute first?

Hello from Karcher - it is highly concentrated and needs to be diluted with 20 parts water to 1 part concentrated soap. Premix this first then pour the diluted solution into the tank. It is very difficult to premix in the tank and this affects how well the soap is applied. Besides, you can keep a premixed amount available ready to use.

Can this / will this clean asphalt shingles roofs?

Asphalt shingles can be easily damaged by a high pressure stream. If you try it be very careful.
