Danelectro E-Studio W/ Echo Review: Disapointing! - First, this thing has no speaker, although it looks like it has and no one gave himself to the trouble of mentioning it. The eco is rubish. It just sounds terrible. Has a nice clean sound but the overdrive is not as good. I had the version with speaker, which is a little bigger, but does the same as this one without the annoying eco and the possibility of playing without headphones. My advise is buy the other one, which is much better and cheaper. Review: Grandson's Birthday Gift a Real Winner! - My 15 year old grandson is a new electric guitar player and his playing was starting to disturb a neighbor. I have done exhaustive research on the best headset amp for the money available.........not really a close second here. He loved it and expressed nearly more gratitude for the Danelectro Honeytone Headphone Amp than all our previous gifts combined. He loved absolutely everything about it....and at this price, it includes the headphone!!!!!!!!!!! (many if not most do not). Now thinking of getting one for myself.

Sounds great if it works
Initially, it sounds great without the distortion effect. (The distortion effect is terrible.) However, after 20 minutes of use, it began emitting an ear-piercing, head-splitting, bizarre UFO-type siren noise. Unbelievable - it is going straight back to the seller if I can get return instructions, which are not provided with the product. Perhaps the worst online purchase I have ever made.

works but with noise present
this tool is a cool idea, having an echo effect in a small package. Not going to replace a unit costing 10x more.

Noisy and flat sounding. Case is so cheap you won't want to put it in your gig bag. I got the Electro-Harmonix one. It was more expensive and has no effects, but these effects are so awful that you won't miss them.

Fun!
A fun accessory, lets me move around and not get hung up in wires. Sound quality is fine for an amateur like me. The only downside is that it eats batteries faster than I thought it would. I love it -- and it happened to match my cute little Honeytone Amp (retro turquoise.)

went bad
The "echo" went bad after a few days, replaced by an ear-splitting screech. Some electronic component failed. I also found it was much larger than I had expected, and pretty cumbersome to use.

This thing is a hoot
Lots of fun, has nice echo feature, goes on you belt and you listen through earbuds. Good for the money.

great little device when it works but can be problematic
First the good: when it works - at first switch on with a new or recharged battery it sounds great, and the reverb adds a classic vintage sound. For sound and features I would give it a 5*. But as others have mentioned this device has a howl problem. Initially it worked fine with variable distortion and a great little classic sounding reverb. but after about half an hour or so of playing it then switching off and turning it on again sometime later I experienced the ear splitting howl - at its worst with Echo on, but a faint high pitch noise still present even with echo off. once it starts nothing seems to get rid of it (neither switching off for a while nor the suggestion re opening it up and seperating the T3, T4 wires). After some investigation I found that it seems to be partly because it burns up batterys very quickly. If the battery voltage is much less than 9V when you switch it on then you get the Howl. After changing the battery to a new one I was able to play through it happilly for several hours, but again after switching it off and on again the howl had returned. On checking the battery it was again low voltage (about 8.3V). So the device seems to burn up batterys very quickly. As some people have had no problems with it, it would seem the quality and variability between products is quite poor - If you are happy to take the risk and use an external supply or keep changing the battery I would recomend it, but if not then avoid. Update: I have found it works very well with good quality rechargeable PP3 batteries such as the Uniross or Ansmann ones which hold charge well when not in use, and give a good few Hours use before the aforementioned Howl problem
