After a wild bet, Alexis Montgomery has had her world turned upside down. The cause: Daniel Grant, a ridiculously hot carpenter who's ten years younger than her and as casual as they come - the complete opposite of sophisticated city-girl Alexis. And yet their chemistry is undeniable. While her ultra-wealthy parents want her to carry on the family legacy of world-renowned surgeons, Alexis doesn't need glory or fame. She's fine with being a 'mere' ER doctor. And every minute she spends with Daniel and the tight-knit town where he lives, she's discovering just what's really important. Yet letting their relationship become anything more than a short-term fling would mean turning her back on her family and giving up the opportunity to help thousands of people. Bringing Daniel into her world is impossible, and yet she can't just give up the joy she's found with him either. With so many differences between them, how can Alexis possibly choose between her world and his? . ......................... ๐ DISCOVER WHY READERS LOVE ABBY JIMENEZ . . . ๐ 'Sweet and achingly romantic - a truly wonderful love story' BETH O'LEARY 'Full of fierce humour and fiercer heart' CASEY MCQUISTON 'A deliciously hot, sweet debut. Every book I've read of Abby's just gets better and better' READER REVIEW Review: When you think Abby Jimenez's writing cannot get any better, it does! Emotional & often whimsical - cw: Emotional abuse, gaslighting, enabling, domestic violence Alexis and Daniel shouldn't work. He's a small town carpenter, ten years her junior, she's an ER doctor from a prestigious medical family. But sometimes opposites attract. This is already one of my favourite books. The humour is, as expected, top-tier. The opening bar scenes, and *that* photo scene with Daniel had my crying laughing. I also adored the banter between Daniel and Alexis. But as always with Abby's writing, there's a ton of emotional depth to the story. Alexis has the weight of her family's expectations on her shoulders. Her father is emotionally abusive, and deeply unlikeable. Meanwhile Daniel is trying to keep his head above water as he pacifies an absent mother. But they work SO well together that I was constantly forming ways for them to be together in my head (way before Alexis I had the exact plan she ultimately came to ๐). The chapters after things came crashing down at the hospital pretty much tore my own heart out. I was in physical pain with both of them. THAT'S how good the writing is. You feel their heartbreak. I fell for Daniel pretty much immediately. He was SO honest, SO pure, and such a GOOD man. Which is precisely why I struggled occasionally with Alexis. I completely empathised with her situation, hated the way she was emotionally abused by her ex and father, and understood the conflict she felt. However, I hated how little of her life she bothered to explain to Daniel. I realise it was part of the plot, but I feel like she could have at least answered a couple of Daniel's questions. Her internal dialogue managed to explain it, so I just wish she'd told him as well. That said, I loved her journey. Her realisation of just how privileged a life she'd had, and her evolution from pampered princess to part of Daniel's world was truly lovely to witness. Many of the scenes in Wakan have an almost ethereal quality to them, and that's a testament to Abby Jimenez's often visually poetic writing. I particularly loved the nature/supernatural elements of Wakan. From the unexpected acorns and thunderstorms, to the dragonflies constantly darting around. It felt cinematic. And, of course there's a dog. Very reminiscent of Tess ๐ Plus, a baby goat. In pj's! Also, I urge everyone to read the Q&A at the end. The origin of the name Wakan? ๐๐ผ Cannot wait for Briana's story! P.s. The Easter eggs! Seriously. One of the things I love most about Abby Jimenez's writing is the way she interweaves characters from her other stories. For those who pre-ordered POYW there was a special bonus chapter available for 48hrs, and both of the characters involved are significant in this and another story, plus there's mention of a couple of other characters. Unputdownable is the only way to describe this book
I am a slow reader. Always have been. I have never been able to relate when people have said โoh this book was great, I read it in a day,โ because I would never be able to do that. But this book almost made me do just that. I read it in a weekend, which is impressive going for a slow reader like me. I just couldnโt stop. I needed to know more about Daniel and Alexisโ lives, and I NEEDED there to be a HEA. Iโm not going to spoil it for the people yet to discover this absolute gem of a novel, but it truly is magical, just like the village of Wakan. Abby writes in such a beautiful, relatable way that her characters feel like real people. Even the ones you hate. This is my first delve into her work but it absolutely wonโt be the last. Thank you to my friends Lacey and Kim who have been telling me for years to read Abbyโs books, you were right. I love her. Bring on Briโs story.

Different themed love story
This is the first Abby Jimenez book that I have read and it wonโt be the last. Heard this authors name a lot so I thought I would try one of her books for myself. Glad I did! I found that the characters were slightly different to the normal love story (which was a good thing) the age gap was interesting . I was engaged with the main characters from the get go and found the book well written and it quickly became a page turner!

They dont write good books anymoreโฆ
i gave in to Abby hype - what a mistake. If you after a good profound read - this snot and cheese book isnt for you. However, its simple and ditzy enough for a long flight or a pool read. The next one in series is called Truly Yours or something - and is another waste of money and time (as i always finish a book once started - it was a torture)

A book that you feel like you live it
I'm not normally a big lover of romance but this book grabbed me instantly. The characters are so well written and developed that I feel like I know them. The plot has some real meat to it as you're not quite sure how they're going to resolve some pretty big hurdles. The setting is just picture postcard perfect and I want to be in this book!! It's like a Hallmark movie come to life with a beautiful cast who are all down to earth and fantastic to be around.

This book captured me from the beginning, it has been on my TBR for a while now and Iโm so glad I finally read it. This is my first book written by Abby Jimenez and I canโt wait to read more. I loved the characters and how well written the story is. The funny animals, the serious and heart wrenching story lines. Amazing book. โค๏ธโค๏ธ

*Appearances*
Well, I absolutely adored this book and would describe it as a chick lit with a meaningful message. There were so many hilarious moments, and it also addressed the issue of controlling and abusive behaviour and its consequences not confronted. Meet Alexis Montgomery, a wealthy young woman whose parents are both surgeons. She has a twin brother, also a surgeon, who has chosen plastic surgery and is actively involved in humanitarian efforts in impoverished countries. Alexis, on the other hand, chose to work in emergency room medicine but seemed to have fallen short of her fatherโs expectations. On her way home from a funeral, she swerved to avoid an animal and ended up in a ditch. Fortunately, she was rescued by a very handsome man. However, as she was coming out of a long-term relationship with the person her parents approve of, they were willing to overlook his shortcomings, and her opinion was dismissed. Feeling lost and uncertain, Alexis found herself in a bar. To her surprise, the man who had rescued her ended up with her. But she made it clear to herself that she never intended to see him as anything more than a casual fling. Alexis comes from a world of money and status, while Daniel is a carpenter in a small town where he has many responsibilities and is deeply involved in the community. When she discovers that he is ten years younger than her, she immediately dismisses the idea of a relationship. However, she found herself drawn to him and the town. She wondered how he could possibly fit into her world, where no one would accept him. Why was she so bothered? This was supposed to be a casual encounter. But she knew so much about Daniel, yet she had kept her own world tightly guarded from him. As the story progresses, we witness the collision of their worlds, and Alexis is forced to make a life-altering choice. Will she remain in a place where she no longer finds joy and must live up to the expectations of her family, or will she find the courage to break free and pursue her own path?

It is a good history with a female vision.
t's a good story, there's a female take on a love relationship. There are parts that tend to be fanciful, but they don't compromise the whole.
