Math in Focus: Singapore Math Grade 5: B

This is a good resource. It was delivered well as promised.

Challenging material presented in an easy to understand format. The only downside is the cost of the teacher manual. The only source for answers is the teacher edition which is disappointing. The teacher guide can be useful but not necessarily mandatory.

I like how I can review the chapters. I only used this for like a month and I love it. This helps for people who need help in math like me.

My only complaint with Math in Focus is that there often isn't a lot of explanation in the books. Lots of colorful pictures, great examples, etc., but not a lot of words. I understand that this probably works best for a lot of kids, but for my oldest son it was difficult to follow and the graphics were distracting.

If your students have not used the Singapore MiF books before the back up and review bar models. You can use Step-by-Step Model Drawing, or Powerful Problem Solving. Otherwise the complex questions can overwhelm a student that is accustomed to rote tasks instead or perfomance tasks that require logic, prealgebra, and mathematics to solve. Slow and steady wins the race here. If you can, get a teacher's edition and follow the process. It wil work!
