Van Aken Protolina - Klean Klay Alternative - (Medium) 1/4 Case (6lbs)

I use this clay for plaster mold making it works great for that task.

Well, at least it was cheap. Unfortunately, this clay forms cracks when bent or compressed. It also does not stick to itself very well, so I found it to be too much trouble to get a consistent durable surface. I am not a professional, so maybe someone else knows better, but my experience is in alignment with the other negative reviews. As a novice, I need something more user friendly, and probably more expensive.

I have no complaints for this clay. It was easy to work with, especially when heated in an oven for a bit. It worked about the same as Chavant NSP clay. I appreciated how inexpensive it was, too.

Unfortunately, the clay separates when one bends it to shape it. This was disappointing. To be a true alternative for Klean Klay it needs more work.

The product was not quality. Crumbly, did not stick to itself, could not be smoothed, hours of extra work to get it close to useful. I don't know if it was an old batch or what. I wrote to the seller and mentioned my concerns to give them a chance to make it right, but never heard back. VERY poor.

This clay did not work for my purpose which was to help make plaster molds. It was supposed to be the exact recipe of a previous clay I used, but reacted to plaster very differently. It's a nice modeling clay though, so for that purpose it's fine.

As a sculptor, and mold maker Klean Klay has served me well over the years. With it's departure I found myself looking for a new reasonably priced alternative. This clay works just as well as Klean Klay.
