desertcart.com: The Walt Longmire Mystery Series Boxed Set Volume 1-4: The Cold Dish, Death Without Company, Kindness Goes Unpunished, Another Man's Moccasins: 9781501260612: Johnson, Craig, Guidall, George: Books Review: Loved the show, love the books more! - I was immediately addicted to the Longmire TV show, even tho the 1st season had some problems. It seems to be getting better and the characters (all of whom I liked from the get-go) have stayed strong. When I asked a friend if he was watching, he said no. He did tell me it was based on a book series he had read and had, in fact, recommended to me some time ago (prior to the television series). Having agreed with him previously on several other books/authors, I ordered the first four books (I hate reading a book, loving it and having to wait to receive the next one). I am very glad I did order the first four. They fast-paced and a quick and fun read.. I generally do not love "westerns", but do live out here and have been involved in small towns, ranching and the fine but quirky folks involved in both for many, many years (indiginous species, actually). One of the reasons I like these stories is that they're right on target with the attitudes, patterns and people. You cannot love a book without caring for and about the characters and Johnson's spot on. I encourage anyone who enjoys the series to read the books and vice versa. Actually, I liked seeing before reading as the people in the TV show fit his descriptions to a tee (at least in my mind's eye). Who cares if there are varied story lines? The TV series is fun even if it has composite, additional or changed-up characters from the books. Honestly, there are some from the TV series I wish were in the books - and vice versa on that, as well. I heartily suggest you give them both a try! Review: Original and Fresh with a Wyoming Flair...... - Just finished the 1st book on Kindle of "Best served cold" and absolutely loved it !!A LOT different than the series on TV, but am Really impressed with the book's, stories and writing so far. As a BIG fan of the TV series I am anxious to get to the next book's ! One thing I especially liked about the first book is how much different the ending was from the TV show based on this book. A REAL page turner that literally kept me reading all night..... with a surprise ending that you did not see coming until the very end.... one of those that comes out of left field and leaves you thinking ` I should have seen that coming`โฆ Well written with lots of humor and and entertaining, with characters you can really come to care about. Craig Johnson has just been added to my personal list of favorite must-read authors... Well done, Mr. Johnson, I cannot wait to start reading the next installment of this hidden gem of a series !!

excellent series!
honestly, the best contemporary American writer of today...character development, in depth story telling, vocabulary and descriptive writing excellent...all of this while honoring integrity , sharing history, understanding complex situations and to top it off, done with a sense of humor...you will love Walt and Henry and Vic and the entire crew...oh, yes, and Dog....

1, 2, and 4 were great!
3 of the 4 were interesting, engaging stories. All fiction requires the suspension of some belief. But the descriptions of people and places was clear and imaginable . The stories well put together and characters likable. The third book in this set wasn't very good. Hayseed in the big town schools everyone, and all the girls are competing for his attention. Characters doing things that they shouldn't, doesn't help the story.

CSI With Cowboys and Indians!
I bought this as a gift for my Father, and he LOVES it! I knew it would be a hit, since Johnson is such a great author. As my Dad says, they are "easy reads." The plots are intriguing, the characters all well-developed, and the books are just a lot of fun. The packaging of this set is also really nice...the box keeps the books together and protected. I only wish the next 4 novels had come in a set like this, but they were unavailable in a set. As a friend said, this is like CSI with cowboys and Indians. I don't think you can miss with a set like this!

Longmire fan
All of his tales kinda follow the same formula. I really enjoy them. These would be a good start;

Love Walt Longmire!
I came upon these tales from the television show "Longmire", and I have loved them. I hope that Craig Johnson has a long, happy career writing many, many more! The characters are both old fashioned and contemporary, full of humor, and the plots hold interest. Sheriff Longmire is reminiscent of heroes of the Old West with a code to match, and his best friend, Henry Standing Bear, is no Tonto, but a full-dimensional, heroic and fascinating equal. The rest of the Abrasoka County law enforcement crew, from Ferg to Vic, are each interesting in their own strengths and weaknesses. The beautiful descriptions of Wyoming should be included in the state's tourism brochures.
