Does water need to be added to the bottom before using the slow cooker?

Don't add water to the bottom of the slow cooker vessel. Put the water or liquid, such as broth, into the slow cooker insert itself.

Can slow cooker liners be used with this?

They can certainly be used on the slow cooker function, but I don't have an answer as to using them when smoking. I'm a little afraid to try it. That said, it really cleans up pretty easily after smoking. Read a variety of comments, such as using only 1/4-1/3 fill of chips; there are valuable tips from other buyers/users. Hope you love it. It's very handy for small families, couples and singles in particular

Can you cook baby back ribs

you can cook any thing you can fit in the pot. one options is like a crock pot with smoke added. i do mine in a pressure cooker first to cook and tenderize the ribs , then use this to smoke them. less grease in the smoker too.
