Great two meter receiving antenna.
I was looking for a decent magnetic mount antenna to install on my vehicle and connect to a scanner radio so I could hear some of my friends communicating over two meter handheld ham radio transceivers during a yearly get together, possibly switching to higher frequencies in the 70 centimeter band if they encountered interference. As my intended use was for reception only, I can't speak to how well this antenna handles transmitting (or how much power it can stand) if you plan to use it in that way. There were never any problems with interference while operating in the two meter band, so there was never a need to switch bands and thus I did not test this antenna's reception on the 70 centimeter band. Installation is straightfoward. Connect this antenna to your radio receiver or transceiver and you're ready to go. Minlmal assembly (screwing the antenna onto the base) is required but easily done in seconds. Its magnet is quite strong -- no problems traveling at 70+ miles an hour -- and the whole antenna seems quite sturdy. Functionality seems excellent. I was able to hear their low powered handheld radios (ranging from 3-5 watts, varying somewhat with the quality of radio each person had) from over nine miles away with some static. Over much more realistic distances, reception was strong and clear. I certainly expect this antenna to provide many years of reliable service. I'd have only done one thing differently by getting an extension cable. The ten foot cable included with this antenna just barely reached far enough into the cab of my vehicle to connect with the scanner.

Great Antenna!
This is a great antenna if you are looking for a dual band 1/4 wave antenna. A quarter wave antenna is not very long and consequently has very little wind load. I find the magnet to be very strong. (I don't understand the very few reports saying this antenna has a weak magnet base. That is not the case with the antenna I received. The magnet is very strong!) I cannot comprehend how this antenna could ever blow off the car at any speed ! I'm an old experienced ham. I've been licensed for 68 years. I've learned not to believe a lot of antenna hype put out by manufactures when it comes to gain of the antenna. A quarter wave antenna like this one gives the greatest signal for the buck. It is not much different from those longer 5/8 wave antennas which add a lot of wind load to them making them more unstable and prone to blowing off a car if using a magnet mount. Don't believe all those manufacturer gain reports with their longer fancy gain reports. Maybe some have slightly better gain but in the real world you won't find them to work much better then this antenna if any. Torrain and where the antenna is mounted on the vehicle will be more important then the claimed antenna pattern of an 5/8th wave antenna. (The longer antennas also add a lot more clearance problems too.) You are not in the real world going to get much more if any signal distance using a longer antenna as in a 5/8th wave antenna. I've learned over the years to KEEP IT SIMPLE! (Less grief, less wind load, less obstruction, and less cost.) So the final answer is YES I'd buy this antenna again. Great price, practical design, works just fine, built very well, and the cost is low and it is a bargain. Written by w0vt.

Works OK for "local" simplex or repeater access.
Works OK, but doesn't transmitt as far/well when compared to a "brand name" antenna. Of course, the price difference of the "brand name " antenna is also notable.

Good antenna
Read the reviews, and decided to take a chance. Guess I got lucky. Unit works just fine with low SWR. Checked with a NanoVNA and the readings on GMRS are below 1.3, VHF and UHF (which I really expected to be poor) are below 1.5. Not bad for a pre-tuned antenna. Signal checks have been good, and for a cheap antenna, I think it actually works better than my Nagoya 72 at half the price. Seems to me that the magnet is even a bit stronger. As for comments by some that the coax is too short (10 feet), in my smaller vehicle that's a plus, since it eliminates excess cable on the car floor behind the front seat. In the end, keep in mind, this is an inexpensive antenna. It won't last forever, but should do the job for quite a while at the cost of what you'd pay for a carry out pizza. Definitely buying another before the price increases. Can't go wrong for twenty bucks.

An okay antenna, subject to picket fencing.
Currently using this with an adapter to work with my HT. This antenna works best when you're stopped. Traveling through the city and suburban areas, signals being received are not consistent. Find a place to park and stay before talking, and it'll work fine. Start moving, and the signal will blip in and out. This is a cheap antenna. Consider investing in something a bit more refined. But, this is a better-than-nothing scenario. A good antenna with an okay radio will always be better than an okay antenna with a good radio. I've double checked connections and tested send and receive with other radios. This works okay if you're traveling with someone and they're within line of sight. Other than that, it's spotty results. Still, not complaining too much for something that's roughly $20. You get what you pay for. - KF0QNM, Amateur Radio Operator

Very happy
I am very happy with this antenna, as it adheres with a very strong magnet to my roof, and even after repeated use see no scratches, driving with it in high winds at a 100 kph. I can definitely recommend it.
