Tuf-Tite Effluent Filter EF-4 Combo

If you are DIY-er and have spare time - this type of project will save you 100's if not 1000's of $$$. Our septic tank was being pumped and the operator hit the effluent pipe (we did not see him doing it, but it was in-tact before they pumped). The quote was absolutely ridiculous. 300 worth of parts and 500 for labor (2 hours). We ordered this filter combo and never looked back. Arrived super fast. A bit "light" construction as we expected it to be a bit "thicker." Unfortunately our exit pipe got broken as well. So, we ordered "extend and lok" pipe - drove it into the "exit" 4" pipe (wooden board and a mullet). Repaired cement nearby. Used ABS glue to connect this Tuf-Tite filter. Done. 1 hour in total. At least 700 dollars saved (repairing walls of the tank + cement is an additional charge). Our tank is about 1k gallons... Word of advice: 1. Have someone nearby all the time - the smell is horrendous and one can pass out (faint) if not careful. 2. Septic tanks are filled with bacteria and e.coli and other "not-so-fun" bugs. Make sure you have a proper suit, glasses, rubber gloves and a face mask. Don't let anything fly into your face! Wash yourself thoroughly and please!!! DO NOT CHEW YOUR NAILS!!! Don't touch your face!!! 3. If you use a ladder - you will have almost no space to work with. We drained our tank a couple of days ago, so we had quite a bit of room to go "down." If you have patience, stamina, time and energy to do such projects - RESPECT! Excellent product! Will not look back! Most likely - will outlast our tank.

Great product at very affordable price. This is made with thin brittle plastic. So be careful. Lots of filter area to protect D box and drain field. I used the plastic insert as I used traditional drain pipe.

I like that the filter seems well designed and that the filter can come out of the housing with relative ease. It can also receive a piece of 1'2" pvc pipe to extend the handel so you can avoid getting your hands in the sewage water if it get plugged and the water level gets higher than the top of the housing. I was perplexed for a while when I tried to match up the filter to the ABS pipe going to my drainfield, it didn't seem to fit until I found out the insert was already installed in the housing. The insert is given to fill the gap if you have a thin walled pipe.

My original baffle wall was damaged on my septic tank. After some research I found this item on the internet and just love how it works. It has a removable screen that you can clean and put back in. They make two lengths so make sure you buy the right length for your tank.
